You can predict but not escape your future. It's going to happen and the only difference is that you know it. So Fridge and DP's posts are wrong.

Pray tell... how do you predict the future? And no, I don't mean stuff like the weather. I'm talking about event's that can not be predicted. Good examples are pearl harbor or 9/11 or even who the next president will be. It would be impossible for someone 100 years before that time to predict any of those.

Actually, it's pretty much like the weather, you study several factors and things in your life and surrounding. That makes it possible to 'predict' the future to a very good extend in my experience. But hey, the knowledge the Mayans had has been lost for centuries so it's kinda impossible to know how they were able to predict so many things so far in the future.

So they were psychohistorians?

To recap: the Mayans didn't exactly predict that the world will end in 2012. It's just when their calendar ends a cycle, which could mean a number of things. Some people think it could be the start of a new era. The Mayans predicted things through their understanding of astronomy and mathematics. Many of their buildings were built in ways corresponding to the stars. A good informational website to understand the calendar.
Also, while I was searching for stuff on this I found this new one about how the bible predicts that judgement day will be May 21, 2011. Wackos...

I am totally with you on the Mayan ideas, but the bible prediction...eh. Nah...

In my opinion, no human being and predict the end of the world. Using the Bible, though, we can find events that must happen before the end of the world comes. But, there is NO possible way we can put an exact day, month, year, or even decade that it will happen. ;)

Here is an idea everyone: click the link in my sig and read the whole dang thing. I really thought that after posting the link, this thread would come to an end...

I saw something on History Channel this morning about aliens helping build the Mayan Calendar, and then just leaving. So maybe they'll come back on 12/21/12 and save the Earth. Just a strange thought, but I thought the ETs helping the Mayans with their calendar was interesting.

There's a movie coming out in November about 2012.
In the trailer, a guy on the news mentions
Guy on the Trailer said:
A mass suicide, due to the belief that the world will end on December 21st of this year.
So, maybe, everyone will kill themselves.

That sounds like the 4th Indiana Jones movie

There were no Crystal Skulls involved. That was only in Disaster Movie, and if you don't beleive me, watch the History Channel thing, not the movie. That was one bad spoof movie.

i think half of us, if not all of us who think it wont happened and are in denial, if most dont believe it, how is it going around so much. only one word: Denial.

btw i dont believe in the 2012 thing the wikipedians predicted.

don't worry about it. The thing started with the aztecs Mayans :p. They were smart but they coulden't of been right.

Yeah. It's pretty much impossible to predict stuff like that thousands of years in the future. :p
