Athena... How does Brave have 2.5x the skill than you?

Like I said... I got badly Skl screwed. :< Despite having a Skl growth of 20%, I've only gotten ONE +Skl level up in 18 levels, which is more like 5%. >_> I did get a Secret Book earlier, but I gave it to Brave since I figured he would need it more than me... but of course now he's doing fine thanks to some lucky rolls and his sweet promotion. I'll gain +3 Skl on promotion, at least, and we'll get some more Secret Books later, if I still need them by then.

At least Mage's are SKL heavy like Berserkers are.

Also Tomes have much higher natural hit rates than Axes do. So it could be a lot worse.

Aww... Poor Athena :<What's your hit chance against the average soldier?

Haven't fought any soldiers for a while, but my actual hit tends to be in the 80s with a Fire Tome most of the time, which isn't too bad.

Chapter 13: A long battle interrupted by plot

Lord Green quickly gathers as much intelligence about the Etrurian situation as he can, but things look pretty grim. General Cecelia did manage to escape with Princess Mora, and even formed a band of Loyalists to oppose the rebellion. However, the revolutionaries maintained a powerful advantage. Not only did they have the might of Bern on their side, but they also held King Mordred himself as a hostage, securing the obedience of the other 2 Etrurian Generals. Cecelia and her Loyalists were outmaneuvered and outgunned, and eventually pushed to a castle in the southeastern Missur Peninsula...

Meanwhile, at the peninsula...

<Narcian> Ohgeez, you really haven't taken out that stupid Valkyrie general yet? Come on, she's a magic unit, her defenses probably suck.
<Flaer> Well...
<Narcian> Ugh, I hate that wench. >_<
<Robin> *flies in* You seem to be having some trouble, Narcian.
<Narcian> Oh, uh, hey your majesty, long time no see. When did you--
<Robin> Enough banter. I will take out the Etrurian General myself.

Thankfully, our heroes have just arrived! \o/

<Green> Alright, everyone, it looks like castle is still standing.
<Everyone> Hurray! \o/
<Green> DNA, Jabber, you guys head up north to visit that village and grab whatever loot they're offering. The rest of us will go directly east over the near bridge to catch up to her quickly.

With firm salutes, DNA and Jabber rode quickly north towards the village and the band of enemies stationed nearby. Everyone else rushed across the bridge as fast as possible, Brave and Vom leading the pack. From our position on the bridge, I could just make out Robin's elaborate sprite approaching the green Valkyrie NPC stationed at the castle's gate...

<Robin> You there!
<Cecelia> o.o;
<Robin> You fight well. I shall grant you the honour of fighting in a dual with me. >:3
<Cecelia> Ohshi- *tries to attack with her tome, fails*
<Robin> *awesome badass OHKO crit animation*
<Cecelia> Urk! x_x;
<Robin> Fainted already? Bah. I was hoping for more... :<
<Narcian> If you don't mind, your majesty, could you, uh, leave her to me for now? >:3
<Robin> *arches eyebrow* Sure, I guess. Have your fun.
...
<Athena> Green, did you see all that? D:
<Green> I did indeed....
<TGK> It seems we were too late after all. :\
<Green> Yes, well, she may still be alive. Come on everyone, let's progress forward, and quickly!

But we weren't the only ones watching. On the far, northern bridge, General Percival and a band of Etrurian soldiers fighting for the revolutionaries also happened to see the encounter.

<Percy> WTF? Didn't Bern promise that they would leave Etrurian business to Etruria? And the King himself is the one handling matters...
<Percy> Something tells me that Bern isn't playing straight with us. Soldiers, don't head forward. Stay in place and observe, please.
<Soldiers> Yessir! o\

To the north, Jabber and DNA were about to reach the village but encountered resistance from some of Bern's forces, so they went to battle, lances and axes raised high. The rest of us down below continued our advance across the bridge, Vom, Celever, and Brave taking out the mages and archers that lined the path. As we finished our round, I could just make out the tine sprite of Princess Mora being led out of the castle...

<Mora> Brother...
<Robin> Mora! How wonderful to see you. ^_^
<Mora> Robin, please, won't you stop this war? :<
<Robin> lolno
<Mora> But so many poor innocent people have died!
<Robin> Innocent? No, I'm afraid. People fight and kill each other across all nations of the world for petty reasons like jealousy, greed, and spite. Surely, you do not mean to imply that all of these people are "poor innocents." I will liberate all of mankind from all of this pointlessness.
<Mora> Even if that means killing everyone in your path?
<Robin> *shrugs* I don't see a problem with that.
<Mora> >:|
<Robin> Mora, you're my only sister and I love you, but if you don't stop being a (*#^&, I will consider you an obstacle in my path, too. Be good.
<Mora> ... ... ...
<Robin> Narcian, take Mora to Skyleaf and have her take the Princess back to Bern. Also make sure she returns the Fire Emblem to the Shrine of Seals, please. *departs*

Inside the castle....

<Mora> Skyleaf, I'm so sorry to worry you so much....
<Skyleaf> Well, I'm pleased to see you safe and sound. Come on then, let's get back to Bern.
<Mora> *grabs sword*
<Skyleaf> Princess! :O
<Mora> Please, Skyleaf, I respect you, but I must ask you to let me go.
<Skyleaf> *arches eyebrow* And if I were to do so, what would you do?
<Mora> I happened to see Lord Green and the Lycian Army approaching. I would like to meet up with him again.
<Skyleaf> But they are our enemies!
<Mora> They are my brother's enemies but not mine. He can justify this war to himself however he wants, but that does not change the fact that he is destroying everything around him with blind violence. I will not just sit back and watch.
<Skyleaf> ... ... ...
<Mora> So, please, let me go.
<Skyleaf> If I could ask you one question before you leave...
<Mora> Yes?
<Skyleaf> Why have you not asked me for my own opinion?
<Mora> Well, I, uh... >_>
<Skyleaf>Honestly, I basically feel the way you do, and I'm much more loyal to you than Bern anyway. So what do you say we blow this popsicle stand?
<Mora> Awww, Skyleaf, you're the best. <3
<Skyleaf> *picks Mora up and flies off into the sunset-- or, er, over to Lord Green* Please lower your weapons, I'm not your enemy!
<Green> Hey Skyleaf, 'sup?
<Skyleaf> Wait, how did you...
<Green> Don't worry, Athena told me we'd be recruiting you this chapter. Welcome aboard! Also, good to see you're safe as sound, Princess Mora.
<Mora> And good to see you as well, Lord Green. I thought you'd be interested to know that General Cecelia is still alive, just trapped in the dungeon of the castle.
<Green> Glad to hear it! Alright everyone, let's keep going to save Cecelia! Let's try and give Skyleaf here so opportunities to get some good exp, okay?

We continued the press forward, Vom and Brave taking out the ballstae parked in the middle while Skyleaf and Celever demolished the Paladin leading the charge and TGK and I cleaned up the remaining Cavs. To the north, Jabber and DNA had finally cleared out enough of the approaching enemies to visit the village.

But the plot just keeps on coming. Back inside the castle...

<Robin> Everything ready?
<Idoun> Yes, the dragons are prepared to fight at your command.
<Robin> Narcian, take a few dragons with you, would you? I want you to head to Nabata after sweeping up here.
<Narcian> You want me to go to... the middle of a desert?
<Robin> Yes. Apparently there's a hidden village somewhere there where dragons have been living in hiding since the days of the Scouring.
<Narcian> Oooh, so there's probably a nice legendary weapon or two hidden there as well, eh?
<Robin> I believe so, yes. You must grab it before it falls into enemy hands. I sent some soldiers there earlier, but they need some... assistance and motivation. I believe you'll be able to provide both.
<Narcian> No problem, boss! Happy to be of service. :3
<Robin> Alright. I'm trusting you with this. For now, I'm outta here. *departs*

And in the dungeons...

<Cecelia> Oh, my poor head. What happened? x.x;;;
<???> Shh, you're still injured, take care. I tried to heal you up as best as I could, but I don't have any Staff ranks yet.
<Cecelia> Oh, thanks. So, uh, who are you?
<Silver> Oh, me? My name is Silver. I'm a Shaman from Arcadia. But, really, for now, you should rest and heal. We'll talk later. This chapter is proving to be hella long anyway.

And outside near the gate...

<Flaer> General Narcian! I see them! The Lycian Army!
<Narcian> *facepalm.jpg* Weren't you supposed to take care of them in Jutes? >_<
<Flaer> Yes, well, um, you see, I left the dragon there, and...
<Narcian> You are a failure and a fool and it's all going to come down on my head. *sigh* I need to fly back and make proper plans to take care of these whelps, it appears. In the meantime, you are your men are to stay here and hold them back.
<Flaer> But sir, they were able to defeat a dragon... ! Surely don't don't expect me and my men to stand a chance again them...
<Narcian> You're right, I don't. I only expect you to buy me time to take care of them on my own terms.
<Flaer> But that's...
<Narcian> Using you as fodder? Why yes, it is. You deserve death for your defection and failure at Jutes. You can either earn that death fairly in combat against Bern's enemies, or I can slaughter you right here and now, what do you think?
<Flaer> I... I will fight, sir.
<Narcian> Good. Toodles! *flies off*

And back with our heroes...

<Athena> Alright, can we please stop having a new dialogue scene after every single round of combat so I can actually concentrate on playing this level instead of narrating? -_-;
<IS> Fiiiiine~

And thus we finally got a few rounds to just concentrate on fighting. DNA and Jabber finished up the soldiers in the north and began riding south to meet us. A few Wyvern Riders approached us over the water, but Celever and I helped Skyleaf take them out. Celever ran around healing everyone. It was nice. Eventually General Percy got fed up with Bern's actions and decided to storm off in a huff with his personal soldiers, but there was still plenty of trouble on horse- and dragon-back, so we pressed on.

At least for a bit. By the time we finished crossing the bridge and reached the mainland, reinforcements began to appear to the rear so we had to watch our backs. Brave, Vom, TGK, and I all stayed back to help deal with the cavaliers rushing our butts while the others pressed forward with Skyleaf at the head to earn up some good exp, taking out a few mercs. Finally we took out the reinforcements and were able to continue the press on to the castle. Celever, TGK, and Skyleaf worked together to take out Flaer, and then because this chapter wasn't long enough already, Green sent Skyleaf up north to the arena to train up a bit and earn some funds for the army. She managed to get all the way up to Lv. 20 in time for DNA to toss her an Elysian Whip from the convoy. Skyleaf is now a Wyvern Lord!

Finally, Green capped the throne and we were able to move on into the castle to rescue Cecelia.

<Cecelia> Thank you for showing up, Green. I'm so sorry to have failed you.
<Green> No probs. I was admittedly worried about you after seeing Robin crit you in the face, but you seem to be okay.
<Cecelia> Yes, this delightful young Shaman lady helped treat my wounds.
<Silver> 'Sup, Green?
<Cecelia> Apparently she foresaw your arrival here, and there's something she wants you to do, but she didn't tell me very much...
<Silver> No offense, just didn't want to bother explaining myself twice. This chapter is long enough as it is.
<Athena> Tell me about it. My left hand is feeling a bit numb.
<Silver> Anyway, I'm from this sweet ass city called Arcadia that happens to be in the middle of the Nabata Desert. It's a pretty small and sekrit place, but I guess Bern found out about us somehow and sent a bunch of soldiers and crap there. I got captured.
<Vom> Why would Bern bother raiding a tiny village in the middle of the desert?
<Silver> Oh, probably because of the dragons living there.
<Everyone> Dragons?! :O
<Silver> Yeah, dragons and humans have been living in harmony in Arcadia since the Scouring. It's pretty chill. Anyway, I would super appreciate it if you would help out my village.
<Green> Well, you did heal up Cecelia, and a dragon town sounds pretty cool to visit, so, sure, we'll help you out.
<Silver> Yay! \o/

Player Notes

A nice, long chapter today, I guess to make up for the super-short gaiden from last time. :U

FE6 doesn't have the best characters or plot for an FE game in my humble opinion, but I can't deny that they have some very fun maps and the gameplay is pretty top notch. This particular map is pretty large by GBA standards and has a few different interesting ways to go about things. You can actually recruit Percy in this level but it's kind of a pain in the ass to do so, so we're waiting for level.

Our main priority this time around was to feed kills to our newest recruit, Skyleaf. She joins as a Lv. 10 Wyvern Rider and has many of the same starting issues as Athena: high power (in her case Str instead of Mag) but low Skl/Spd, so she has a hard time taking out enemies at first. I really wanted to get her up to speed in time for the next chapter. Skyleaf got pretty even stat gains across the board leveling up, which was overall nice, though she's still a bit slow. She'll be getting next level's Speedwings. Once she gets that speed boost, she'll be a force to be reckoned with, for sure.

Plotwise, things are starting to progress a bit. We're back together with Mora, and we're learning a bit more about Bern and their objectives. Of course, because this is a Fire Emblem game and they're the bad guys, they're basically scumbags, but we already knew that. We also got the first hints towards what the MacGuffin Fire Emblem item itself will be this game.

Next chapter combines everyone's favourite mechanics: Desert Chapter + Fog of War, yay! \o/ The good news is that we'll have plenty of items to pilfer from the sands. The bad news is... well, everything else. At least we have a flyer now?

We do also have one decision I would like to float past my readers: Next chapter we will finally be getting our second Guiding Ring. Who should it go to: TGK or Athena? I'm leaning towards Athena myself, mostly because she needs the promotion boosts more than TGK does, but I figured I would put it up to a vote. We'll pick up our final 2 Guiding Rings in Ch. 16, so it won't be all too long, at least, for the other to promote as well.

Thanks for reading!

Wyvern Lord Skyleaf, reporting for duty! (*^*)7
Last game, my horse was named Aldwin. This game, my dragon shall be named Berkely.~

I have no idea where I get these names...
And for that decision, I was going to say TGK so we could both be promoted, but I think Athena should get the Guiding Ring because she needs the stats. :)

Wait, is that my name?! It's been 4 chapters since I was mentioned :p I really thought the main antagonist was mentioned a little more. But oh well, I had a decent amount of funny dialogue in this chapter at least.
<Robin> *awesome badass OHKO crit animation*
Awesome indeed
latest

Yeah, you've been lurking in the corners for quite a while so far.

It's a desert map with fog of war, so, yeah, it's not going to be a cakewalk. FE6 in general is one of the harder games (which is partially why I cut out a lot of the crap characters from sign-ups).

Chapter 14: Welcome to Arcadia, home of sand and... more sand. Also dragons somewhere maybe.

Making good on his promise to Silver, Green immediately packed up the army and moved deeper into the Missur peninsula into the heart of the Nabata Desert. Since the village was hidden, Silver herself led the way, though the army was struck by a heavy sandstorm shortly before arrival.

<Athena> Ohbutts, it's going to be a fog of war chapter, isn't it.
<DNA> Certainly looks like it from here. Yeesh. I think I'm going to sit out this one.
<Silver> Yeah, sorry about that. The sandstorms help to protect the village, but it's kind of annoying...
<TGK> At least we have plenty of mages!
<Skyleaf> And don't forget me, I can fly!
<Green> Don't worry, Athena, we got this.
<Athena> If you say so...

Meanwhile, inside Arcadia...

<Igrene> Hey, SM, get your butt over here so I can hide you. Bern's soldiers are coming.
<SM> Where's Silver?
<Igrene> I don't know, maybe she was captured. Regardless, now is not the time for questions, it's time for hiding.
<SM> You know, maybe it would be nice to be captured. I'd like to see what's outside of Arcadia!
<Igrene> *mumbles* Don't strangle the dragon girl, don't strangle the dragon girl...
<SM> What did you say? o.o;
<Igrene> Nothing. *sigh* Now get over here before I drag you.

Over with the aforementioned soldiers....

<GenericBoss3.4> Hey, Icarus! Has Narcian gotten his butt over here yet?
<Icarus> No, neither he nor his command have shown their faces. *sigh* He sent us some mercs and a couple dragons, though.
<GenericBoss3.4> Oh, damn, how is that supposed to help? We're massively outgunned and there are MORE DRAGONS here. We can't fight dragons!
<Icarus> Yeah, it sucks alright.
<GenericBoss3.4> Go make a report to King Robin. Tell him that there are dragons here, and one of the captives even mentioned DIVINE dragons. And go quickly!
<Icarus> Yessir! *salutes and flies off*

Back with the army, we began to push forward, slowly but surely. Hitting a crossroads, Green decided to split the army in half. TGK, Skyleaf, Celever, BB, and I went north and then east, while Green, Brave, Vom, and Keeper followed Silver to head east and then north. Jabber kind of did his own thing derping around south for a bit to find a hidden item in the sand, then began to make his way north.

My group had the benefit of high mobility, but we ran into some issues early on when Skyleaf was repeatedly targeted by a priest with a sleep staff, causing Celever to have to spend all his time healing her over and over. TGK and I took the brunt of the work killing wyvern riders and even taking down a dragon lurking in the sand.

To the east, progress was slow. We were determined to give Silver some exp to make her a bit stronger, but she was so slow and weak that it was difficult. The other soldiers with her all had a difficult time progressing through the sand as well, so it took them a long time to make it over and around to the eastern path. When we finished up to the north, Skyleaf immediately flew down to offer them assistance, and Celever followed, healing from afar.

At some point, bandits appeared to the southwest and targeted the slowest members of our respective groups. Jabber took on a whole squadron by himself and managed to survive unscathed, though he did use up an entire sword in the process. Similarly, Green (who was functioning as rearguard) ended up taking out all of the bandits that had followed the eastern group.

Eventually we managed to clean up all of Bern's soldiers and make it to the outskirts of Arcadia together. In the sand outside the gate, Silver happened to spot a Guiding Ring and gave it to me. Promotion time! Athena is now a Sage! With my newly powers, I went up to the gate and killed the boss on my own. Once we finished shopping and picking up items, Green swooped in to cap the gate and enter Arcadia.

<Silver> Oh dear. My poor town. :<
<Jabber> Yeah, it's kind of... trashed, isn't it.
<Celever> Is that a temple I spy? It looks like the door was forced open.
<Silver> Oh, yes, we kept a legendary weapon in there, a tome of some sort, I believe.
<Skyleaf> If there's a legendary weapon here, you can bet Bern was after it.
<Green> Ohshi- Did they beat us to it?
<Silver> No, it's still here, I can sense it.
<Green> In that case, everyone drop whatever you're doing. Securing that weapon is our first priority.

Player Notes

Ohboy, this was a "fun" chapter.... >_>

Like I warned yesterday, it's both a "fog of war" and a desert chapter, so we can't see worth crap, and movement is hindered for all non-mage or flying units. On the flipside, not only can the enemy see everything just fine, but almost all of the enemy units are mages or wyvern riders, so they just kind of run around sniping everyone.

Silver finally joins us... as a Lv. 1 Shaman. She's effectively an Est-type unit, very low level but good growths. Unfortunately, this level isn't very great for her since the enemies can all kill her in 1-2 hits (1 for melee, 2 for magic), and they can appear out of nowhere in the sand conditions. I did manage to give her a few levels (mostly thanks to feeding her a couple enemy manakete kills that gave her close to 100exp each), but she'll be a slow work in progress for quite some time.

We got some nice items in the sand, including some Boots that went to Skyleaf (10mov Wyvern Lord \o/) and the Guiding Ring that let Athena promote. Athena even got a +Skl level up from her boss kill, so she's now in double digit Skl. :U I also got a Speedwings but I'm waffling on giving that to Skyleaf or Silver.

Next chapter is another Legendary Weapon gaiden, so it should be pretty short and sweet, and hopefully we'll be able to feed Silver a decent amount of exp. See you tomorrow!
