Blastoise / Keldeo EX / Black Kyurem EX

What do you guys think of a 1-of Energy Search in this? It basically allows for Skyla to be turned into an Energy at any time. My only concern would be not having enough energy to get onto the field late-game if I take one out for an Energy Search.

I play energy search in mine. It helps when you only have a Skyla and just need an energy. It doesn't matter late game as much since you have energy retrieval.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

I took out Bouffalant and I replaced it with Energy Search. I think it's a really good tech, it's certainly helped me in a lot of games. I also took out Kyurem for a Hydro Pump Keldeo, which works wonders against Sigilyph. (Darkrai/Hydreigon is the 2nd most popular deck in my area next to Blastoise/Keldeo)

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

Well, I Top 8'd with this at my last cities, and I'm quite liking an aggressive build. I run no healing at the moment, only a ton of energy and consistency cards, such as 15 energy, 4 retrieval, Tropical Beach, and 4 Rare Candy. I crushed a lot of the mirrors, who actually all lost because they weren't consistent enough. Consistency is greater than any tech in this deck in my opinion, as I only missed the T2 Blastoise once and it was the reason I lost a match in swiss. Sigilyph can be worked around if you're able to get multiple Blastoise up.

Any ideas of how to improve the Rayeels matchup? Bouffalant is an interesting option as a 7th prize, but I'm not sure and I don't want to ruin my consistency.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

I am surprised that people are still having problems with the rayeels matchup. RayEels is a good deck, but if you have 4 Skyla and a Computer Search, then your four catchers KILL IT. Your best tech for RayEels is SKYLA. Kill the Eels. Just Kill the Eels.

They manage to get out four? great, just a few more energy and a new Keldeo and you take your last two prizes off of the dragon.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

Sadly not everyone (including me) can get a hold of Tropical Beach. If I had any, they would already be in my deck.

Is 15 Energy really that good in this deck? I haven't tested beyond 13.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

15 is amazing. It makes pulling off the 170 damage T2 much easier, and even if you don't get that kind of perfect start it allows for just general T2 attacking and to keep you going the whole game. If you add 4 retrieval, suddenly your deck is a monster both early and late game.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

Vulpix Yolk won with this deck at cities this weekend. He didn't play skyla or tropical beach, so there is that.

Whats your Cilan count at? I run 13 water and 2 Cilan and seem to do okay. I may test 0 Cilan 15 Water. Cilan can be clutch though. I don't have as much space for energy in my deck since I run 2 Beach but, what are your thoughts on Gold Potion VS Comp Search

Killing eels can become really pointless really quick. Stream water so you can get 1HKO's on Rayquazas. Most Rayeels decks only use 2. I usually do my best to stop the eels, but at some point or another, their going to get set up. If you can keep them down to one, your good to go. Four skyla and you will eat it in Keldeo. The only thing Skyla is good for is grabbing a Beach or a Candy, and the occasional catcher. Playing Keldeo takes a balance of using/conserving your resources since you really only have a few. Early game you have ball search, and rare candy and late game you have retrieval and catcher. Get the two mixed up and its gonna hurt. I'm never going to burn resources to take out all their eels. With a deck that sets up quick, by all means, take out the eels. Most Keldeo lists cannot attack turn one. Ever. IMO your best to just grab the 3 EX's quick and if you need to take an eel or 2 to prevent you from getting steamrolled then by all means. It all just depends how easily your list can stream 6 energy Keldeos.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

No Skyla? That's pretty risky in my book. How VY won without it surprises me. I'd throw 2-3 in immediately to grab the clutch Energy Retrieval or even Energy Search.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

4 can be very good, especially if you play beach, since it maximizes your chances to search it T1.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

Replace spaces that would have been for Beach with Skyla/Energy Search/Cilan. Random Receiver can actually be suuuuuper handy as well.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

I've seen people run it without Beach. It basically has to go to consistency. Extra draw supporters are arguably the best, but stuff like more Skyla is also really nice. Actually, players in my area have been more successful without Beach than with it, but I think that's because the better players using it don't have Beach.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise

Pokemon Center is a great Stadium if you can't run beach. It also seriously helps in the Darkrai Matchup, and no other deck can abuse it quite like Keldeo can.

Why do you even want a T2 170? If you do that a mewtwo can easily destroy your whole stup and cripple you. My general rule is: spread the energy around on keldeos and only ever put on big so it OHKO's is to put them in a terrible position, for example, KOing there only pokemon with energy.

What does everyone think a decent non-beach list would look like?
This is the list a kid from my area has been wrecking with without beach. I don't like it much but:
2 Mewtwo EX
3 Keldeo EX
4 Squirtle
1 Wartortle
3 Blastoise

1 level ball
1 heavy ball
1 super rod
1 computer search
3 pokemon catcher
3 eviolite
3 energy retrieval
3 random reciever
4 rare candy
4 ultra ball
3 bianca
4 N
4 Juniper

12 water

I can't believe he posted it on his YouTube channel...

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise
