Blastoise / Keldeo EX / Black Kyurem EX

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Now that Virizion-EX is a thing, what are your takes on this deck? Do you think any precautions will be made?

Same thing as Klingklang. Moltres' Fire Blast for 90 (x2) for weakness does the job or BKEX's Black Ballista for 200. I run both of these.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

We can't say Virizion EX is a thing until we know what the rotation is and what the meta looks like at that point.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Virizion EX doesn't OHKO anything in the deck itself and Genesect is the real threat-seriously, the only thing Virizion even helps is Genesect, so worry about that and not a support mon that may or may not see play. Genesect will brutally murder Keldeo and hurt Blastoise, but BKEX is not weak to Grass, so the deck itself will probably survive it, although it may not be quite as high on the tier list

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Ok, it's not a "thing" per se, but while it's out there and already being speculated with, it's something to keep in mind. Genesect-EX isn't the only Pokémon I feel Virizion could boost. A Shaymin-EX late game could be brutal.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

I don't particularly think Virizion's acceleration is very good. I don't know what the format will look like then, so it's impossible to say, but the ability is where I see it shining as a means of stopping HTL, and the acceleration is simply a nice added effect. It's very clunky to rely on; it takes two turns for Virizion to be able to use its attack meaning that you'll only be doing real damage on your third turn; quite late in a format such as the one we have now. Not only that, but the time you send setting up Virizion could have been spent setting up a different attacker. To really make effective use of Virizion, you would have to use the attack multiple times in a row and fill your field with energy, but that's really slow and Virizion may get knocked out before that happens.

Against Keldeo/Blastoise, if the deck still works, Virizion isn't going to be the card that ruins it. Genesect EX is a much better "counter" to Keldeo/Blastoise, but even then, Keldeo has BKEX to get rid of the Genesect very quickly. I don't think there will ever be a direct counter to this deck as Blastoise always has something to get around it, whether it be an extremely high damage output or the use of Tropical Beach to handle Frozen City.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Virizion EX is not that much of a good attacker, neither a good accelarator

You are right but its going to be more of a set-up tech for getting grass on field or bench tech for its ability (bye bye HTL!!!). I think its decent especially since theres no grass energy accel. that we know of. Except for Beautifly but thats a Stg 1 and attack does no damage and has no ability. Im pretty sure people will be running at least 2 Virizion EXs with Genesect EX builds.

You mind sharing your deck list? I'm really curious to see what your running. I'm thinking of running two BKEX and possibly 1 Moltres in my Keldeo/Blastois deck.

1x Moltres
1x BKEX PLS

Trust me, HTL will still see LOTS of play.

I didnt say it was. Its just with Virizion EX's ability it will do no effect if its not knocked out.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

It's not like Virizion EX is a hard knock out, anyways

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Yeah, 170 hp? Darkrai hits that with snipe+dark claw+htl+virbank. Wait....

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

BW8 Absol+Claw and Laser does more than enough damage for just 2 energies

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

note the "and laser"

Sure, if Absol's opponent has 5 mons on their bench and the Absol player has 3-4 Deoxys in addition to the Dark Claw then yes it can hit that. But you can't fit Dark Claw in a Plasma deck and you can't fit Deoxys in a Dark deck, and Absol as a main attacker is rather iffy due to how easily they can limit your damage once they find out.

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

Blastoise Keldeo normally one shots everything, why would you need pluspower?

RE: Keldeo EX / Blastoise (With and without Black Kyurem EX)

How many Tropical Beaches should be played in this deck? 2 and have an extra slot, or 3 and have an excellent counter-Stadium?
