Writing Fire Emblem: Awakening: PokéBeach Edition! All finished! Stay tuned for the next one...

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 3

I'll vote for doing after recruiting Gaius. Like you said, need a thief for chests. Keys get lost just like irl.
But I'm with TT on the Blessed Bow! The healing helps tons, even if there aren't any risen.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 3

Blessed Bow got'd. Since the overwhelming consensus seems to be to wait, I'll go ahead and move on with real chapters for now. There's not really any inherent challenge in using keys over Gaius as it stands (you get enough keys as drops, and I don't necessarily need to save them because I'll have Gaius for all the remaining chests)... though if you guys had not voted me to use Gaius as a PC, I might have been more selective about hoarding keys. :p

Chapter 4: Two Falchions

<Drohn> So, this is the barbarian stronghold...? It's pretty nice, actually.
<Cinesra> Speak for yourself; these drafty halls are fur hides will be the death of me.
<Athena> So, where's this "khan" we're supposed to meet with?
<Camoclone> That would be me! Welcome to Regna Ferox. Don't bother giving me your spiel; I can't help you.
<Drohn> What?! Why the hell not?
<Camoclone> Because I don't have the power to, asshole.
<Drohn> But I thought you were the khan...
<Camoclone> One of the khans. There's two of them and the other one is in power right now. Man, for being a ruling member of our closest ally, you sure don't know anything at all about our politics, do you?
<Cinesra> I didn't even know barbarians had politics...
<Athena> Man, if the other guy is in power, then why did they bring us to see you instead of him?
<Drohn> Is there anything we can do?
<Camoclone> Sure. You can help me take full power from the other guy; his term is coming up soon anyway.
<Drohn> So, what, we, uh, go on the campaign trail with you?
<Camoclone> Ahahahahahahaha.... no. Man, you really don't know anything about us. But seriously, we're a bunch of barbarians. Our leader is chosen by a fight to the death, of course.
<Athena> You mean the khans fight each other for supremacy?
<Camoclone> Pfft, of course not. We let others do the fighting for us. You guys can fight for me!
<Drohn> I guess it really is a good thing I came in Vesperia's place...

Without many other options, Drohn decided to take Khan Camoclone's proposal and we began to prepare for the tournament. We decided that me, Drohn, Cinesra would do the fighting dirty work, and protect Lissa who could come into the field to heal us if necessary.

The other guys didn't look all too difficult... except one. It was the masked mystery man from earlier, Seliph, who was the head champion of the other Khan. Drohn and Seliph clashed head to head at the beginning of the combat, and Drohn was thrown off guard when he saw Seliph's sword up close for the first time. It was another Falchion, the same sword that Drohn himself wielded. This wouldn't have been so surprising except that the Falchion is a holy relic passed down through the generations; only one exists in the entire world, and it belongs to Drohn. Seliph took advantage of Drohn's confusion and pressed the attack, but Drohn regrouped and came back to the rest of us. We decided to go easy on Seliph and let him live at the end of the tournament, if we could; it would be good to get answers about that sword.

We stuck in a group as we moved around the tournament hall, taking out enemies as the came to us, but staying away from Seliph. In the end, it was only the masked man left alive, and us. Chrom and I went in to distract him, then Cinesra finished off the fight with a decapitating arrow to the knee; Seliph was unable to fight, but unharmed.

<Camoclone> Hurray! You made it! I'm in charge again! Woohoo! *donce*
<Drohn> You're welcome.
<Camoclone> I guess that means I can give you the soldiers you need to go kick Plegia's ass. Now, if you excuse me, I have a "finally in full power" party to plan and decorate~~~
<Chaos Jackal> *sigh*
<Drohn> Ack! Who are you?
<Chaos Jackal> ... Camo was right, you really don't know anything about us. I'm the other khan, the one you just kicked out of power.
<Drohn> Does that mean you know that masked guy you hired?
<Chaos Jackal> Seliph? Nope, he just showed up, kicked my other champion's ass, and said he wanted to fight for me. *shrug* So I let him; why not? Kind of a scrawny ass, but a good fighter. Anyway, I want you to take my previous champion along with you. That way I feel like I'm helping, too.
<Lon'qu> ... ... ...
<Athena> Ooooh, he's got a killing edge. Sure, we'll take him.

And so we headed back to Ylisstol, with promises of more soldiers to come once they were mobilized. It was nice to get back to civilization again.

<Vesperia> Oh Drohn, it's so good to see you again! Were you successful in your mission? ^_^
<Drohn> Yep! We should be safe from all troubles now.
<WanderingWolf> Well, you just jinxed yourself, because we're in some deep trouble now.
<Vesperia> Oh no... ^_^;;;
<Drohn> What happened?
<WW> A bunch of Plegians raided one of our borders towns and kidnapped the mayor's daughter.
<Cinesra> That's Professor Light! Surely, she is okay?
<WW> Well, she's been kidnapped, so.... probably not okay, no. But the worst part is that that stupid "Heavenly" King Spoon is twisting it all around and saying Light was the one who invaded him. I'm sure he could see my eyes rolling all the way across the border.
<Vesperia> I'll go talk to him; I'm sure we're be able to resolve this matter peacefully. ^_^
<Everyone> facepalm.jpg
<Drohn> Spoon's been trying to provoke us into war at every step for years! You can't just waltz over and have a friendly chat.
<Vesperia> Of course I can. After all, if we counter this with violence, then we'll end up at war and give him just what he wants, so this is the best way. ^_^
<Drohn> At least let me group and your Pegasus Knights come along to protect you, you know, just in case.
<Vesperia> That would be splendid! ^_^
<bbninjas> Hey, hey, I wanna come too!
<Athena> Who's this one now, another new character this chapter?
<Drohn> This is bbninjas, our kid mage.
<bbninjas> I'm not a kid!
<Drohn> Sure you're not, sweetie.
<bbninjas> I want to come save Light with the rest of you! She's totally smoking hot. Besides, I actually have a higher tome rank than Miriel, and you'd totally let her come.
<Drohn> Look, bbninjas, I have a very important job for you.
<bbninjas> Yes?
<Drohn> I need you to close your eyes, count to five, and then cast a powerful magic spell straight into the air.
<bbninjas> Got it! 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... wait, where did everyone go? Oh, geez, don't tell me I fell for that again... *sigh* Well, I'll show them. I can sneak along in the baggage train and no one will know I'm there! THE PERFECT PLAN.

Current Team:

Chrom: Lv. 8 Lord
Skills: Dual Strike+

Athena: Lv. 8 Tactician
Skills: Veteran

Virion: Lv. 8 Archer
Skills: Skill+2

Extra characters that are currently force-deployed: Lissa

Decisions, Decisions:

Paralogues: Paralogue 1 is still here. It looks like I'll be waiting at least until after Chapter 5, so if you have a preference for this one and you haven't cast a vote yet, feel free to.

Wireless Menu & Shopping: There was another Anna Merchant on the main map, and she had another Blessed Bow (which I bought; it's a nice weapon for Cinesra and with two I won't feel bad about using them), but the other two items were just irons, so meh. Still haven't used any of my renown items; I'm a hoarder. >_> Current Gold: 12,136

DLC Chapters are now unlocked! If people want to see me playthrough and write up any of these levels, either for the amusement of seeing them written up or to get the bonus goodies, feel free to speak up. I haven't bought all of them, but the spoiler below lists the ones I do have.

Feel free to suggest any chapters you'd like to see included, even if I'm not strong enough to tackle them yet. That just means I'll put them in the list for later when I'm a high enough level.

Champions of Yore 1
Champions of Yore 3 (AS+2 skill)
The Golden Gaffe (gold)
EXPonential Growth (exp)
Infinite Regalia (fancy weapons)
Harvest Scramble
Summer Scramble
Hot-Spring Scramble
The Future Past 1
The Future Past 2
The Future Past 3
Lost Bloodlines 2 (Dread Scroll class item)
Lost Bloodlines 3 (Paragon skill)
Smash Brethren 2 (Bride class item)

Notes in parentheses tells you what in-game bonus you get from that particular chapter. Each "skill" item lets you give that skill to 1 character of your choice. The Dread Fighter class item lets you give that class to any one male unit; Bride item is the same but for females)

Player Notes:

Nothing exciting from sparkles: extra support points for Athena/Drohn (like they need it) and exp for Cinesra. Athena's level-ups are sucking hard; one of her levels this turn was a point of HP and nothing else. ._.; I managed to let Cinesra be the one to take down "Seliph" to boost him up to Lv. 8 so everyone could end at the same level. I always like when people are the same level; it feeds my gamer OCD.

I have a few risen spawns on the map (one single, one double), but I'm probably not going to play through any of those unless people specifically request them and want me to write them up.

I also unlocked the Barracks after this last chapter, but I didn't get anything worth mentioning, just some conversations and Vaike got a stat boost.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

Chapter 5: The Brave Exalt and the Heavenly King

<Athena> Did I just see Drohn enter the men's bathing area? TIME FOR REVENGE.
<Athena> Oh Drohn~~ Where are you? I need to talk to you about something desperately important and that's why I followed you blindly through this hallway in the palace and I have no idea where I'm going and what I might see...
<Drohn> Oh, Athena, come in, I'm right in here in all of my glory!
<Athena> ... Drohn, have you absolutely no sense of decency at all!? Or at least a sense of embarrassment??
<Drohn> At least now that we've seen each other naked we don't really have any secrets anymore, right? So, what did you want to talk about?
<Athena> Will you at least put on a towel? I've seen enough of your "glory" for now, thank you...

Drohn and Athena attained support level A!

Once Drohn was properly attired, we made our plans for the trek to Plegia. We didn't want to take along too many Shephards, especially since WW's Pegasus Knights would also be in attendance, so we decided that just the two of us, Cinesra, and Lissa should come with. Vesperia was content to let us make all of the arrangements. We left in the late afternoon, camped out overnight, and then got back on the trail early in the morning to arrive at the Plegian border pass by midday. The Hevenly King himself was waiting there for us, along with a small retinue of followers, and Professor Light bound with rope.

<Vesperia> Good afternoon, King Spoon! Lovely weather we're having, isn't it? ^_^
<Spoon> That's Heavenly King Spoon to you. Ohmy, I can't believe our negotiations are already faltering.
<Vesperia> I'm sorry, Heavenly King, I meant no offense. May I ask who the lovely young lady accompanying you is?
<Athena> *whisper* Ohgod, it can't be... Shining Raikou?
<Shining Raikou> I'm Shining Raikou, the Heavenly King's delicious assistant, and the one in charge of the prisoner, Light.
<Light> That's Professor Light to you, hag.
<SR> Do you honestly expect me to believe you could be a professor of anything except maybe, oh, SPYING??
<Light> I am not a spy!
<Spoon> Actually, she is a spy. She invaded our land, threw a hissy fit, and then kicked and punched at the brave Plegian soldiers who only looked to return her safely home. I'm afraid spying is a death sentence in our country... unless you have a particular nice present for me that might ease our diplomatic relations. Like say, perhaps, the Fire Emblem?
<Vesperia> The Fire Emblem? But I could never give that away! It's Ylisse's most sacred plot device! It can only be used in times of greatest need, like when the story is faltering and the heroes need an appropriate MacGuffin. ^_^;;
<Spoon> But I *do* have a great need! I need to invade your country and kill everyone in revenge for your father starting a holy crusade and slaughtering my people in the name of justice.
<Athena> Wait, did your dad really do that? Because that's some sick stuff.
<Vesperia> Look, I know my dad was a terrible guy and all, but he's dead, and we've been peaceful for the last decade or so, so can you please just give it a rest already? ^_^;;;;;
<Spoon> No! Gimme the Fire Emblem!
<Light> Oh, shut up already! I'd rather die then let you get our precious MacGuffin!
<Spoon> Oh really? Well, that can be arranged.
<Drohn> No, I won't let you!
<Spoon> Ohdear, it looks like Prince has killed some of my own men in my own land. I might not get my precious Fire Emblem yet, but at least I have a war!!!
<Drohn> Ohshi-
<Vesperia> ^_^;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
<Drohn> Dammit, I'm sorry.
<SR> Well, at least we have a tasty hostage to kill...
<bbninjas> No you don't! Take that!
<SR> A Ground-type move? My only weakness...
<bbninjas> Come on, Light, I'm here to rescue you.
<Light> Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?
<bbninjas> Look, do you really want to be a healer on your own in the middle of a combat zone with snark as your only weapon?
<Light> Fine, fine, I'm coming.
<Spoon> Welp, my soldiers are here to kick their butts, and like any proper main villain, I'm not going to stick around long enough to make sure they succeed. Shining Raikou, come! Let's blow this joint and go get some Thai for dinner.

Spoon and Raikou left on the back of Raichu's Pegasus, leaving us to take care of the soldiers that began pouring in from all sides. I sent WW and her Knights to escort Vesperia to safety, while Drohn, Cinesra, and I began to work our way through the soldiers. We powered up a hill to meet up with bbninjas and Light and then held a firm position while they came to attack us. Drohn insisted on keeping bbninjas away from most of the action, but it was fine because we didn't really need his help, especially with how effective Cinesra's arrows were against their Wyvern units. Professor Light, reunited with her horse, had an easy time keeping us with us and healing. Finally, Cinesra took down their commander with a single arrow and the battleground was still.

<Lissa> Light, you're okay, yay!
<Light> Of course I'm alright, darling. Did you really expect otherwise? I wouldn't be able to join the team if I'd died out there.
<Athena> Well, I'm glad you're safe, even though you didn't seem to care for me too much when we met before.
<Light> Of course I didn't like you when we first met. You'd been camping in the wilderness and you smelled like you hadn't bathed in weeks. You have a much more pleasant odor now. Thank you for helping with my rescue.
<Drohn> Alright, enough chit-chat. Let's get back home so we can start prepping for this war. Good thing I made that treaty with Regna Ferox or we'd be slaughtered.

Decisions, Decisions:

We finally have some characters at Level 10, so that means it's Seal Time, HURRAY! \o/

For an explanation of Master Seals and Second Seals, please take a look in the spoiler box below:

Most characters in this game start off as a single Base Class. Base Classes gain EXP up until Level 20, but starting at Level 10, they have two different items they can use to change their class: Master Seals and Second Seals.

Master Seals make a unit "promote" from their current Base Class into a Promoted Class. Each Base Class that can promote has 2 Promoted Classes to choose from (Exceptions: Lord and Tactician only have one Promotion available each). Once the Master Seal is used on the unit, you pick which of the two Promoted Classes you want your unit to move into, and then they will start at Level 1 of the new class. Promoted Classes are generally more powerful than their Base counterparts; they have higher stats, more movement, and can often use more weapon types. However, promoted units gain exp at a slower rate than Base Classes. While Base Classes gain skills at Levels 1 and 10, Promoted Classes gain skills at Levels 5 and 15.

Second Seals work a bit differently. They let a Base Class unit change into a different Base Class, or a Promoted Class unit into a different Base or Promoted Class. In addition to their starting class, each unit has 2 other class trees that they can switch into via the use of a Second Seal. The exception to this is the Avatar who can change into any class (so long as they're the correct gender for that class). A Base Class unit at Level 10 can use a Second Seal to change into a Level 1 Base Class from their available list. A Promoted Class unit at Levels 1-9 can use a SS to change into a Base Class from their list, and once they hit Level 10, they can change into another Promoted Class or a base class. A Second Seal used at Level 20 can let the user switch to a Level 1 version of the same class their already in, which lets them keep the same stats and skills but start gaining exp all over again.

Stat growths do tend to change a bit between class changes. For example, f you switch a melee-unit to a magic-unit, they'll have a higher magic growth than before. But, generally speaking, characters do better and have more appropriate stat growths if they stick to their strengths.

For a list of what classes promote into what, you can take a look at this this page here. If you want to know the various skills that each class gets, you can look here.

For Second Seals, I'll list the classes available for each potential seal user as it comes up.

So, we have One (1) Second Seal that we can use on one of our characters, if we wish.

Here's what we can use them on:

Drohn: Can switch to Cavalier or Archer
Athena: Can switch to any class, so long as it's not male-only
Cinesra: Can switch to Wyvern Rider or Mage

Please vote for your choice!

Paralogues: Paralogue 1 is still here. There are currently 2 votes to do it after Chapter 6, and 1 vote to do it after Chapter 5. If you have any preferences, speak up, otherwise, we'll be doing C6 then P1. Paralogue 2 is also unlocked! Nothing really special in this level, aside from being a prerequisite for one of the other paralogues. We get a Physic from the village (a long-range healing staff) and a Goddess Icon from the boss. Please vote when to do this level!

Wireless Menu & Shopping: Still have renown items; no new merchants aside from the shop unlocked in C5. Current Gold: 12,136

Player Notes:

I loaded up the game to find out that today was TWO birthdays! I didn't realize today was also Lissa's birthday when I set it as Athena's birthday. Athena got an Alm's Blade as her birthday present, and Lissa a Seliph's Blade. I guess swords make good birthday presents?

Chrom/Drohn and the Female Avatar/Athena's supports were always kind of, uh, weird and awkward to me. Oddly enough, I like the idea of her sneaking up on him for revenge and him just not caring about her seeing him naked a lot more than her just falling for the exact same mistake he did. At least it adds a bit of playful banter and removes a bit of stupidity.

It's really rather hard to get a sense of scale in this world considering that relatively little time seems to be spent between chapters despite the group traveling across an entire continent. Does the trip from Ylisstol to the Plegian border take hours? Days? The only real time reference we're given is between the first few chapters; the group leaves the Prologue and only has, according to the dialogue, a couple hours to travel before night, which brings them to the location of Chapter 1 which appears to be almost half the length of the country from the location of the Prologue chapter. For a group moving at a walking speed, either Ylisse is really] small or the locations on the world map are only for reference purposes and not accurate representations of distance. I like to assume the latter. But regardless, this is one of those things that really makes me miss the overworld narration that was present in some of the earlier games. Even just hearing/seeing a few sentences about the party traveling makes the sense of scale and distance more realistic.

The battle itself went pretty simply. I brought along Lissa mostly so she could trade her Heal and Kneader staves to Light so that I could spam healing without wasting Light's Mend staff. I paired up Lissa to Light for the Mag boost and bbninjas to Virion so he wouldn't die. I mostly camped near that one fort in the middle and let people come to me, then went to the upper fort for the sparkly tile and the boss kill. Cinesra OHKOed him with his Blessed Bow. Maribelle got a Seed of Trust from one of the sparkles. Nothing interesting from the other; I think it might have been another convo between Drohn and Athena. I really need to stop putting them on sparkles. After all, they don't need the support boost.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

I'd recommend not using the Second Seal, at least for a while. No point in forcing someone to essentially restart their progress with a completely different weak proficiency.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

I'm with Turtwig on that with the Second Seal. Although, I am unsure as to who may benefit the most from said Seal

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

Give it to Drohn. Horses are cool, he'll keep his sword rank, and get another weapon.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

Silly Confession Time:

I once did a random reclass run where I put everyone into their silliest class choice (from my perspective) and I chose Archer for Chrom. I ended up regretting that choice so much that I level-grinded him back up to 10 so I could SS back to Lord ASAP. Not because he was an in-effective archer or anything; it was actually a pretty decent class for him. What bothered was that his battle sprite was a dumb generic archer with that stupid hat thing and I couldn't stand how he looked. Why couldn't he have had his hair out like Virion? WHY DID HE HAVE TO LOOK SO AWFUL. To make matters worse, I had to see that stupid archer sprite on the world map, too. ARGLEBLARGLE. It was the worst.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

Professor Palutena said:
Give it to Drohn. Horses are cool, he'll keep his sword rank, and get another weapon.

Hmn, that is actually a rather good point.
Wouldn't his movement speed go up as well?

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

In honor of your playthrough Athena, I decided to start a new file on Lunatic difficulty for the first time.

Long story short, I got five game overs on the Prologue. Thank the gods I picked Casual mode.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

Don't use the seal on anybody, that's my vote. No class is worth switching into right now.

Also, paralouge should still be done after getting Gaius.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 5

I suggest doing the Paralogue nowish.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Foreseer

With Professor Light safe and sound, we made our way back to Ylisse with no more bloodshed. Plans were made to strengthen the defense of the city and also to put to use the soldiers that had begun to arrive from Regna Ferox. In my capacity as a tactician, I started studying up and planning some strategies of my own.

<Athena> Let's see, if I place these soldiers over here...
<Cinesra> Hey Athena, 'sup?
<Athena> Oh, Cinesra! You startled me. It's good to see you though, I've been meaning to talk to you.
<Cinesra> Really now? Pray tell, how this humble archer can be of service. *bow*
<Athena> Listen, before you came here, did you happen to know of me, or hear my name or anything?
<Cinesra> Oh, this is related to your memory troubles, is it not? Sadly, I'm afraid I cannot help you there. For though I am a well-traveled man, I have not heard of you nor seen your lovely face before we met in the woods. Surely, I would have remembered the countenance of such a ravaging beauty.
<Athena> Thanks, I guess... *sigh* What was it you wanted?
<Cinesra> I was actually interested in the game you have before you.
<Athena> Ah, this? I was actually using it to help me plan some strategies for the city's defense, though it's kind of easy when you control both sides.
<Cinesra> In that case, let me play the opposing team, and I'll help you!

<Athena> ... welp, that was over fast. GG. I can't believe I lost so quickly.
<Cinesra> I must confess that I'm actually very familiar with this game. For a newbie, you actually did very well, though. You really only lost because you were so concerned with saving your pieces.
<Athena> Well, yeah, duh. I told you I'm using this for practice. You wouldn't like me to make up strategies that involved me sending your fancy ass out to be sacrificed, would you?
<Cinesra> Most certainly not! But that's why you're the tactician and not me.
<Athena> Regardless, that really did help me out, so thanks. I think I have a few more defensive tactics in mind...

Cinesra and Athena attained support level C!

Later in the evening, I was strolling in the palace gardens, having a chat with Drohn. It was nice to be able to talk to each other normally rather than constantly be discussing strategies and warfare.

<Drohn> You know, I wanted to tell you that Gangrel wasn't completing lying when he was talking smack about Ylisse.
<Athena> Oh?
<Drohn> My dad... well, he was a pretty hardcore religious type. Fundamental Nagaist, couldn't stand people who didn't feel the same. And right on our borders was a country whose inhabitant worshipped Naga's enemies, and he started a crusade, slaughtering their people.
<Athena> Ohshi-
<Drohn> Yeah, tell me about it. Anyway, it started a huge war, and it probably sounds stupid and selfish, but that war was hard on Ylisse, too. It wasn't like the soldiers my dad was sending over all felt the same way he did, and as the battles went on, attrition grew and grew, until we had no able-bodied men left and my father was killed. I was just a young kid at the time, and Vesperia was only 10, though she took up the crown, ended the war, and sued for peace.
<Athena> Wow, that's impressive for a 10 year-old.
<Drohn> Yeah, that's why we called her "Brave". She stood up for peace and has never raised a hand in violence. Even now, 15 years later, she refuses to let us build up an army any more than what the Shepherds and her personal guard.
<Athena> That seems... kind of dumb, really. Though I can understand her striving to maintain her ideals.
<Drohn> Yep, and that's why I have to protect her. And people like Spoon will never understand that, either. But that's okay, I'll kill him. I have a feeling this war will only end with his death, even if Vesperia wouldn't want that.
<Seliph> Yeah, you take him, Chrom.
<Drohn> Oh, hey Seliph, nice of you to drop by. How the hell did you break into the palace gardens?
<Seliph> Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about the spare gate keys you keep under that fake rock in the back.
<Drohn> Thanks, I guess.
<Seliph> Anyway, I came here to warn you guys. A bunch of assassins are going to come and try to kill Vesperia tonight. I know this because I can see the future.
<Drohn> O... kay....
<Seliph> I knew you wouldn't believe me, so let me demonstrate my foreknowledge for you by taking out that assassin that's lurking to take out you by hiding in that bush over there.
<Assassin> Wait, wha-

In a flash, Seliph rushed over and decapitated an assassin that had just started to rise up from a nearby shrubbery. Another assassin jumped out and took a slash at Seliph, though the young swordsman was able to dodge the attack so only the mask was cut off his face, and soon enough Drohn was there to take him out. Then he turned and say Seliph's face and long, flowing hair for the first time.

<Drohn> Wait... you're a girl?
<Seliph> Took you long enough to figure it out.
<Drohn> Well, excuse me for not staring at the body of a young presumably male mystery swordsman. Especially since most of the times we've met we've either been fighting or you're busy running away.
<Drohn> Does this mean we have to pick another name to call you now?
<Athena> Nah, she still looks more like Seliph than any of the female lords we've had.
<Seliph> Enough silliness! Let's get into the palace before the other assassins take out Vesperia!

Following Seliph's advice, the three of us ran inside and started calling for reinforcements, though only Cinesra and Light answered my summons quick enough. Together with Seliph, we staged a defensive perimeter around Vesperia's door, since we didn't have enough fighters to spread out any further. It seemed like the assassins realized that their stealth had failed and they were instead assaulting the palace in full force, hiding no longer. Peeking out a window, I was able to see a large contingent of enemy soldiers pouring in and was even able to get a glimpse of their leader. It was the sorcerer from my dream! The one I took down with Drohn. What was he doing here, and why did I dream of him before?

I didn't have much time to think about it because it wasn't long before the battle was upon us. Drohn and I held one corridor while I sent Cinesra and Maribelle to watch a side passage while Seliph positioned herself in front of the main door to Vesperia's room. A strange woman named Panne showed up and Seliph convinced me that she was here to help us, so I sent her to help Cinesra and keep an eye on the other passage.

As I was focused on the hallway I was defending with Drohn, I happened to catch sight of a familiar face in the enemies up ahead.

<Athena> TT, is that you?
<Drohn> Wait, you know that guy? Let me threaten him instead of killing him outright, then. HEY YOU, GINGER GUY. Drop your sword!
<TwistedTurtwig> Hey, take it easy, Blue. I'm not here to kill anyone, just want to steal some phat loot and get out of here.
<Athena> TT, why are you fighting with the enemy?
<TT> Do I, uh, know you from somewhere?
<Drohn> Look, you seem like a reasonable guy. Why don't you come fight with us? You won't be able to loot the palace, but we could use a Thief in our army. You'd get a percentage of all the loot we find, plus steady payment, good food, and a health care plan. What do you say?
<Athena> I have these cookies in my pocket, if it'll help sweeten the deal?
<TT> Cookies? I'M SOLD.

And so it was that TwistedTurtwig joined our team and I sent him over to help Panne and Cinesra with the overflowing enemies coming in from that side while Prof. Light did her best to keep everyone's HP up. Soon the rush of enemies slowed to a trickle, and only the Sorcerer was left. We all holed up in Vesperia's room and waited for him to show himself. As soon as he appeared, Drohn and I pounced on him together and took him out while TT found a chest to crack open.

<Drohn> Hey, I said no looting in the palace!
<Vesperia> It's okay, I didn't have a key to that chest anyway. You're welcome to keep the contents for the good of the Shepherds. ^_^
<TT> Yeah, you guys can have it. It's just a dumb book.
<WW> Ohshi- I heard there was a break-in and I came here as fast as I could.
<Drohn> WanderingWolf, is your guard good for anything?
<WW> ...
<Cinesra> Regardless, that was a close call. Perhaps it would be best for Her Highness the Exalt to stay in a more secure location?
<Drohn> You're right. Vesperia, I want you to come up to Regna Ferox with me. We were going to head there anyway to request more soldiers anyway, now that there's a formal war and all.
<Vesperia> It's kind of you to think of my safety, Drohn, but I need to stay in Ylisse with my people. ^_^;
<Light> What about the Eastern Palace? You'd be safer there, and away from the border, but still within the country. It's a good compromise.
<Vesperia> Sure, that would be lovely. ^_^
<Drohn> Cool, we can escort you on our way to Regna Ferox.
<Panne> I'm coming too.
<Drohn> *eyebrow arch*
<Panne> I hate humans and everything about them because you killed all of my people except for me and you smell funny and you're all dumb and stupid. But I'm coming with you anyway because everyone who ends up fighting with you for any reason joins your entourage, it's just in the rules, so I'm stuck with you and you're stuck with me.
<Drohn> Well, uh, thanks, I guess. I wonder if that means Seliph is stuck with us too.
<Athena> Come to think of it, I haven't seen him since the battle... Did he run off again?
<Drohn> Oh, dammit. Lemme see if I can go hunt him down before he disappears. *runs off*

<Drohn> Hey, Seliph, stop!
<Seliph> ...
<Drohn> Listen, I just wanted to thank you, for saving me and my sister. Is there anything I can do for you?
<Seliph> No thanks are necessary. My only purpose in coming here was to change the future. If Vesperia had been killed tonight, the Fire Emblem would have been stolen by Plegia, and terrible things would have happened.
<Drohn> Oh, yeah, the whole "seeing the future" thing, right.
<Seliph> What, do you think I'm crazy or something?
<Drohn> Oh, no, not at all. I completely trust you. And because I'm such a good judge of character, I know that means you're cool.
<Seliph> Alright then. Later.
<Drohn> Wait, I thought you had to join the party now! ... dammit, she's gone again. Oh well. Guess I better get back and start planning to head back up north anyway.

Player Notes:

Nothing good from Barracks once again, lame face. :<

Since Cinesra and Athena are both perm characters I thought I would include their support, even though they're not a romantic pairing. I'll do that for all of the other team characters that happen to get supports with each other, too, though I won't be purposefully trying to spam those up like I am the pairings.

I also didn't realize until I was writing this chapter up that I've been using the FE names and not the PB names for characters in the "Current Team" list, so I swapped that out.

There was a 2/2 vote split to do P1 either before or after C6, but I opted to do it after, mostly because laze and also so I can hopefully use it to feed some more exp to TT. I'll have to thief rush so I can get both chests, but otherwise I'll try and do it slowly and let TT get some kills to catch up with the others.

This was actually a slightly difficult chapter because my team was so small. Starting out with only 4 characters, and one of them an archer and one a healer, meant that I didn't have optimal coverage, especially since I want to keep Athena and Drohn together to get that last Support. Drohn and Athena went left to recruit TT, but I kept them un-paired to block things better. Cinesra was a surprisingly effective meatshield, blocking the middle corridor and stopping people from advancing because he couldn't kill the melee units that attacked him during the enemy phase, which also kept him alive. I tried to keep Light next to him as much as possible, though she had to run over to heal Athena once; Athena's crappy level ups have meant that she doesn't have much Def at all (I actually used a Dracoshield and a Skill Book on her after the level).

I sent Panne down to help support Cinesra then sent her over to the far right once the enemies were starting to go after Seliph, since she's kind of fragile and the AI prioritizes going after her instead of my units. I also sent TT to help on that side too, figuring that I could wait to have him open the chest until the flow of enemies was a bit less. Finally, I killed enough dudes. TT opened the chest in Vesperia's room to get the skill book, Light and Cinesra paired up, used a Seed of Trust (it's so annoying to get healer supports...) and then went down to the bottom sparkly where Light picked up a glass axe. Meanwhile, the Sorcerer boss had started moving up, and I ended up backing up further and further with Drohn/Athena to make sure both sparkly and chest could be opened before the boss got taken out, and then got yet another Support boost for D/A from the sparkle in Vesperia's room. Drohn got the final kill.

In honor of your playthrough Athena, I decided to start a new file on Lunatic difficulty for the first time.

Long story short, I got five game overs on the Prologue. Thank the gods I picked Casual mode.

Lunatic is a difficult beast, especially if you haven't done it before. It is a VERY steep jump up from Hard mode. Chapters 1-3 in particular can be killer (especially if you want to avoid playing Frederick Emblem), but 4 is actually very easy and then after that you've unlocked DLC so you can grind if you want, though it's certainly possible without it. It's good to go in with a plan for classes/skills/matchups/etc. and it's much easier if you work with a relatively small team and focus on them. Although I'm rather loathe to recommend their community because there are too many vocal, snobby elitists for my tastes most of the time, the SF forums actually have a very nice thread for discussing strategies and getting help specifically for Luna and Luna+ and some of the people that post there are so crazy good at this game that it makes me feel like a complete noob.

I can concur with this. Lunatic is a real pain in the neck. L+R+Start is your new best friend. In fact, if you ever need any help, I've beaten Lunatic and am on to Lunatic+, so if you-

Paralogue 1: The one where we don't recruit Donnel

...
<Sorceror> No... it can't be... I wasn't supposed to die in that chapter... I'm much more important than a stupid mini-boss...
<???> You're right! But don't worry about it. I got your back, bro. POOF. See? Back to the living, just like normal.
<Sorcerer> Whoa, sweet. How did you manage to pull that off? There's no phoenix downs in this game!
<Grima> Pretty simple really. I am the Fell Dragon, Grima.
<Sorcerer> Oh, well, I guess that explains things.
<Grima> Come, let's talk off-screen for a bit so we don't spoil things for the audience.
...

In the aftermath of the assassin attack, we all made plans for the coming mission to Regna Ferox, again, and also to move Vesperia to the Eastern Palace. Mostly it involved a lot of running around and talking to people. Bureaucracy. Fun times. I did hear a cute snippet of conversation between Cinesra and Professor Light...

<Cinesra> ... such a lovely flower that I spy before me, blossoming in this court!
<Light> Oh, dear me, but it seems the garrulous flatterer has appeared in my mists.
<Cinesra> Surely I have a better reputation than this!
<Light> Your reputation might be better if you weren't seen propositioning every woman that happens to walk within a few meters of you.
<CInesra> Dear me, do I detect a hint of jealousy in your voice? No worries, my sweet, for I shall prove my feelings are for you alone with deeds the bards shall sing of!
<Light>...

Cinesra and Professor Light attained support level C!

I happened to catch Drohn in the hallways ahead, so I missed anything further as I ran to go catch up with him. Ever since the battle against the assassins, and even during really, I felt like he was trying to avoid me, ducking around corners when I approach, hiding in meetings. I wanted to go to the bottom of it.

<Drohn> Eek, Athena!
<Athena> You really have been avoiding me, haven't you?
<Drohn> Sorry, I've been trying to figure out a way to tell you that I'm in love with you without just blurting it out by accide.... oh, crap.
<Athena> I've always heard that relationships pop up like weeds during wartime. I guess all the fighting gets our blood rushing.
<Drohn> I'm sorry; I don't mean for things to get awkward between us.
<Athena> No, it's okay, I understand. I've developed feelings for you, too. What can I say? I have a fondness for muscle-y blue-haired guys that swing swords.
<Drohn> So, do you want to get married?
<Athena> Wow! I didn't think things would move that fast.
<Drohn> ... so is that a 'yes' or a 'no'?
<Athena> Well, we have a war to focus on now, so let's take care of business and get to know each other more and then we can discuss it in detail. Deal?
<Drohn> Deal! <3
<Athena> <3

Drohn and Athena attained support level S!

Before we were able to get the convoy on the way to the Eastern Palace (apparently Vesperia needs a huge entourage), we got reports of some bandits breaking through the lines and attacking a village in the southeast. Since we were mostly just twiddling our thumbs and waiting for Vesperia to get ready anyway, Drohn and I decided to take a few of the Shepherds down and see what we could do.

When we got there, we learned that the bandits weren't actually new Plegians who broke through during the war effort, but they actually had an established presence, including a fortified stronghold. One of the villagers, a young man named Donnel, led us to the stronghold and insisted on fighting with us to protect his home, but I kept him by my side and out of danger to make sure he could get home safe and sound.

TwistedTurtwig actually did a lot of the fighting himself, perhaps trying to make up for the fact that he was originally part of a group that was trying to kill us all. He proved himself admirably and even managed to loot some of the bandits' belongings before teaming up with Drohn to take out their leader. We returned young Donnel to his mom safe and sound and made our way back to Ylisstol. On the way, Drohn took the opportunity to chat with our newest Shepherd a bit.

<Drohn> Hey, TT.
<TT> 'Sup, Blue.
<Drohn> You know, traveling like this makes me realize how little I've seen of the world. Mostly when I travel around, it's going to fancy palaces or slaughtering brigands. I never really have much free time to myself. What's it like to actually travel and see the world, you know, normally? Like a regular person, without all the burdens of royalty?
<TT> What's the problem? Tired of silk pants and the undying adoration of the masses?
<Drohn> Just curious.
<TT> Well, most of us actually have to work for a living, you know, find a way to afford food and shelter. That takes up a lot of time. Most commoners labor until they die and never travel beyond their own hometowns.
<Drohn> Wow, I guess not being a prince must suck.
<TT> For reals.

Player Notes:

Nothing good from Barracks still, double lame face. :<

I realized while writing the plot for this chapter that I forgot to include the little scene with Validar and Grima, so I put it in the beginning here. It works just as well this way, I think.

More Supports, woo! Now that Drohn and Athena are effectively betrothed, I can split them up a bit. I used my second Seed of Trust for Virion/Maribelle again this chapter, but it wasn't enough to bump them up again. I also left in the silk pants line from TT/Drohn's support because I love it. Thankfully the support convos helped beef up what would otherwise be a rather short and boring chapter. Also...

<Drohn> So, since I've seen you naked and you've seen me naked, wanna get marrried?
<Athena> Sure, wynaut.

Drohn and Athena attained support level S!

The chapter itself was fairly easy and straightforward. I was able to let TT get most of the kills with only a couple Drohn/Athena/Cinesra assists in the beginning when I was working on beating the thieves to the chests. Drohn picked up a Superior Lance from a sparkle tile; I guess that'll come in handy when, you know, people can actually use lances. Something, something, sword lock...

TT got some good level-ups, too, though Athena's one level was, once again, lackluster. Ah well. That's what second seals and stat+ items are for.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Paralogue 1

Chapter 7: Everyone Makes Horrible Choices

By the time we got back for our little side trip to the village, Vesperia was finally all packed and ready to go. And so we began our journey to the Eastern Palace, complete with wagons full of luxury goods and an entourage of servants and helpers.

<Athena> Hey, who's that shady looking guy in green that's coming with us?
<Drohn> Him? Oh, that's the Hierarch.
<Athena> He's acting more paranoid than a drug dealer and keeps muttering to himself phrases like, "they won't kill me because I helped them, right?"
<Drohn> Don't worry; he's cool. Even though he doesn't get a custom portrait or even a name and has never ever appeared in the plot until now, he's totally a very trustworthy guy who's been with us for years.
<Hierarch> Hey, Plegians, over here! These are the guys I'm selling out, right here! Come and get them!
<Athena> Trustworthy, eh?
<Drohn> ...

It wasn't long before the battle was upon us. Plegian soldiers sprung out from behind trees or swooped down on us from the mountains on wyverns. The nameless Hierarch fled to their leader for protection but was slain; at least that saves us from having to kill him ourselves. Drohn sent WW to take Vesperia and hide with the convoy while the rest of us pulled out of swords and got ready for combat. TT and Drohn teamed up and took cover in some nearby trees to take out their ground forces while I went off with Cinesra to lure some of the wyvern riders to his bow.

We had barely started the fight when a Pegasus Knight flew towards our group from the direction of Ylisse, flying as fast as her pegasus would carry her. I recognized her face as she flew nearer; it was Luispipe8! She yelled out warnings of more Plegians coming from the rear then jumped into the fight with us. Taking heed to the warnings, WW and Vesperia hid in the hills and tried their best to stay out of danger. When Virion ran off with Maribelle, I stayed close to Luis, and we slowly worked our way through their ranks, headed towards their leader. It wasn't long before the reinforcements we were warned about showed up, and then the others began to rush at us all at once. Drohn and TT held the back flank while I worked my way forward to take out the leader. I was injured, but Wind magic is just as good against the flyers as bows, and with his death, the attackers were routed.

<Luispipe8> Everyone, quick, we have to get out of here as fast as possible! There's a hell of a lot more Plegians on their way. Spoon led a huge push and broke through the border, and I was sent in retreat so that I could warn you.
<Vesperia> Oh, dear. I suppose that means I need to head back towards the capital then. ^_^;
<Drohn> Wait, what? You want to go running into danger?
<Vesperia> If the people learn I fled before the attack them they will think I've abandoned them and there will be riots and more deaths. Here, take the Fire Emblem and take it to Ferox with you on your mission and keep it safe. ^_^
<Drohn> You sound like you're just giving up and going off to die.
<Vesperia> Don't worry, I'll be fine! I have WW and her Knights to keep me safe, and we all know how effective they're been so far. ^_^
<Drohn> ...
<WW> ...
<Drohn> I just want it known for the record that I think this is a really bad idea.
<Athena> Seconded.
<TT> Thirded.
<Cinesra> Fourthed.
<Light> Fifthed.
<Luispipe8> Sixthed.
<Vesperia> Too bad, I'm going. Luis, you stay with Drohn's group. I'll see you all when you come back with those reinforcements. Ta-ta! ^_^

Hearts heavy with foreboding, we made our trip back up to Ferox as quickly as possible. Drohn was lost in thought about what he felt was Vesperia's very likely death at the hands of King Spoon, and it took a face punch from IA to break him out of his depressive spiraling mindset.

<Camo> Hey guys! Don't worry, we got more soldiers for. Basically everyone in our entire country is a soldier, so it's cool. Me and CJ are going to come with you as well. It's not like we have anything better to do.
<CJ> Hey guys. 'Sup? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but while you were coming up here to talk to us, Ylisstol was sacked.
<Drohn> Ohshi-
<CJ> Spoon basically rushed in, did as much damage in as little time as possible, kidnapped Vesperia, and went back to Plegia. He's announced that he's going to kill her within a month.
<Athena> So... it's a trap.
<CJ> Of course it's a trap. He just wants the Fire Emblem.
<Drohn> Alright, let's go march into the trap and save Vesperia!
<Everyone> ...
<Camo> Well... we're not implying that you're just as crazy and stupid as your sister or anything, but...
<CJ> Let's at least work up a plan before we just rush into danger.
<Athena> Welp, planning is my thing. I guess it's up to me to make this crazy rush into danger into something resembling strategy. I'll get on that.

Anna Merchants: One popped up right after C7 that had both a Second Seal and a Master Seal, woohoo! I bought both, of course.

Player Notes:

I think my Barracks is cursed. Yet again just more relationship points and exp for characters we're not using...

My main goal this level was to get TT fully up to speed with the other fighters, so I paired Drohn up to him for extra DS damage and TT got up to 13, though that means poor Drohn hardly got any experience this chapter. It's proving extra hard to try and level up both Virion and Maribelle and also have them boost their relationship points, especially with this level since Virion is so useful with all the WRs, but they did get another Support rank after this chapter which I'll be including in tomorrow's write-up. I didn't really want to have Athena take down the boss since she was already ahead in exp, but I was stuck in a tight spot where I needed to end the chapter that round or there was a chance someone might get killed, and Elwind was a ORKO, so I just went for it. Oh well. She's a good candidate for a Seal soon anyway.

The actual plot of this chapter is terrible for so many reasons. The Hierach, Vesperia wanting to go back to the capitol and not letting any capable fighters come with her, then Drohn just wanting to blindly rush into Plegia into the obvious trap. Sigh.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 7

Master Seal Athena! Then we can reclass you into a Dark Flier later.

RE: Fire Emblem Awakening: PokéBeach Member Edition! Chapter 7

Master Seal TT into a Trickster IMO. It'll be an interesting class to explore, because it sounds funny. That's good reasoning right? n_n''
