Have we ever done a fast game of werewolf here? And by that I don't mean like MTCs One Night Werewolf. But rather 24 hour days, 24 hour nights or similar? A werewolf game that would be played over the course of a week or two, plus or minus a couple of days.

I've been running Mafia games through Facebook messenger, and different chat groups, with the 24hour days and nights. However not once have we hit the 24hr limit. The games have only had 15 people and taken 5 days roughly. The thing with messenger though is that you get notifications so people have access to the game all the time, unless they don't have internet. As MTC said, people in different time zones/ active-ness, would make the game hard and people would miss out on using roles and powers.

Another idea (boy, I have a lot of those)!!:D
I was thinking about a TCG based game. Each signed up player will get 30poke. These players can use their poke to buy TCG cards and packs. Players may also trade packs/and cards. Events/and shop will be changed daily. The aim is to get the highest score - your poke+card values+boosters etc - before the end of the month, by a secret formula based on rarity and usability.

I was thinking of starting off with FuF or PF, and eventually going into fakes (e.g. CMP's sets)! Any thoughts/ideas?

Would the game involve playing the card game at all? Or just trading/buying boosters? If it's just trading/buying, it doesn't sound all too exciting to be honest. However if there was some sort of gameplay involved (doesn't have to be the exact card game, but something involving playing with the cards), I think it could work.
Hmm... okay. Is there a PTCG simulator?

Yes, you might want to look at TCG ONE in the TCG News & General Discussion forum.

Keep in mind that if you use any simulators, you have to strike a really good balance between the forum game and the simulator. Eg. Random Battle Royal in Online Play is a simple tournament of sorts, while it uses the same simulator as Kingdoms. Kingdoms has a lot of good elements that make it more than just a tournament, so it fits right in at Forum Games.
The elements you're planning such as trading/buying booster packs may be hard to pull off in TCG ONE (I don't know, I've never used it), but would make it a good forum game. You may want to have more than just that element too - mess around with TCG ONE and experiment with it for a bit.

Cool, thanks. It looks like the simulator is currently down, though. :(

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

TCG One has its own methods of obtaining booster packs based on play. You can trade individual cards, but I'm not sure about boosters.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

While there is a career mode where you trade and obtain cards (not entirely sure how that works), there's also a free play mode, where you can play with any card in the modified format. You could do all the card buying/trading on the forums, and all the actual battling on TCG One.

That was what I was thinking ^_^. Does anyone have any idea of what TCG One could be used for besides battling?

That's pretty much its only purpose: Playing TCG against anyone in the word for free. It doesn't really need to do anything else. :p

Do rpg games besides Werewolf-type games have a chance of being approved?

I'd say yes.
Your game will be analyzed and discussed amongst the Forum Games staff before being unapproved/approved, but basically as long as the game is organized/planned/designed properly, would be good to play, and doesn't encourage anyone to break any forum rules, your game would have a chance of being approved.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Question: Is there too many non-YPPY games occurring? If not, I will post my game sooner or later!
Non-YPPY games...
  • Fog of War
  • WWXXIII
  • WW XXII-II
  • Broken Picture
  • Kingdoms III
  • The Challenge
  • RAF 5

Yes, there are a lot of non-YPPY games around now. No, I don't think it's an issue. It may be an issue for players if they can't balance their time properly (ie. sign up for more games than they can play), but otherwise no. As you can see, the games you've listed are all very varied and different. If there were a heap of very very similar games running, yes, that would be an issue.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Besides, Challenge 5 is only among a very few select, awesome people, and RAF is a very minimal time commitment, with BPT also being rather low in the time commitment category.

Cool! I think I will start sign-ups for my game in a about a week or so, so it doesn't clash too much with Kingdoms.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

If your game isn't as similar to Kingdoms, I guess you'll be fine. And also, there being a lot of non-YPPY games isn't that big of a deal. Having a lot of YPPY games would be the real mess. :p

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Thanks, I'll consider rewriting and restarting a forum game. I played one here for like a year til the game corner changed

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Hi! In typical WW games, does the host generally notify a player when their action fails (or succeeds)? I'm currently hosting a small game that the Blocker blocked the Doctor; should I send the Doctor 'Fail'?

If the blocker actually effects something, you should definitely send it off. So if the doctor targeted the player who was killed, but was blocked, you should notify him that that is why it failed. If it is a flavour dependant game, you should type up a sentence or two to do with the blocker's flavour (e.g "you were incapacitated by a bullet for the night and were unable to complete your action). If it was just a random target, there's no point alerting him to it, really.

I would definitely try to keep things consistent with notifications (either always tell them they were blocked, or never). Maving it inconsistent may cause a huge mess somewhere down the line, and is easily fixable by just telling them they were blocked.

To answer bb's question, I would probably tell them they were blocked.

Cool, thanks guys! I think I will send the guy something that says 'You woke up to find some scribbles all over your face'. No, the role is not Jigglypuff
