RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Simple name posting or simple counting games are not allowed. The ongoing counting game is allowed because it takes teamwork and there is a form of competition/goal and winning/losing to create excitement for the players.

The ban game is similar to regular regular name posting games, but because it is somewhat more personal, creative, and for some members nostalgic we will allow those occasionally too.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

It's nice to see people posting ideas, though. :D I hope more will do it. Maybe you can receive feedback from each other to make a game more fun or figure out how to make a game work.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Certain games are good for certain areas. Simple games are good for phones (Flappy Bird, for example, would never be a success on the PC because that would've made it harder to be virally successful.) Simple YPPY games wouldn't work on a forum, and Drohn has said they're not allowed.

So, if you're gonna do a YPPY game, think up a good concept/goal for it.
For example: A YPPY game where each player writes a sentence per post, and the whole thread tells a story. On Facebook, people typically just do one-word-per-post but I don't think that'll be too good for a forum. This YPPY game's story could be initiated with a theme/scenario/etc (eg. A trainer is about to get their first Pokemon, tell us about the trainer's adventure!) and then the game starts.

That type of YPPY game would be great. It requires creativity, and (depending on how wacky players are feeling) maybe some cooperation to make a good story.

PS: Wow, I wished I came in to this subforum sooner. I've been studying videogame development for the past two years and forum games are fascinating. There's so much potential here!
PPS: Vetoing an entire gametype (for example, YPPY) because you personally don't find them fun is a bad reason to veto. It's incredibly subjective (a huge no-no) and ignorant to those who are playing the games and are finding them fun.

You sir get my like even though it ran off.

An interesting YPPY thing would be that each person makes a post saying their favorite aspect of a game. This could be any game, board game or video game. After 10 or so posts they see what that game would be like by combining the aspects into 1 game. Let's say someone likes how you can build stuff in Minecraft. Another person likes how you fight robots in Rockem Sockem Robots. The new game would consist of you building a robot and fighting it with other people. It would be cool to combine peoples favorite parts of games and making a cooler game. Just a thought, any suggestions?

Can we post this story game please
But I feel like it should be more of YPPPPPY. We don't want two people spamming the thread

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

That YPPY story idea would definitely make for an interesting and entertaining game. I'm all up for that idea!

It appears! All is good!
An interesting YPPY thing would be that each person makes a post saying their favorite aspect of a game [and mash them all together].
That's literally one of the ways I was taught to design a commercial game/app last year. We had to design (just design, not actually make) an app. I was hungry, so I mentioned food. Another guy in the team was a fitness junkie, so he wanted to know how much exercise he should do per day. We made a design for an app that would look at your diet and tell you how much you should exercise to burn off unwanted calories/weight/etc, got top marks for it. Mash-Up Designing is good~
I think that'd be a good YPPY game. I'll just have to stop myself from stealing whatever game concept ends up being formed and becoming a millionaire on someone else's ideas huehuehueh.
---

I had this personal thing on the current YPPY games where I'll do my best to limit myself to one post per page (default page is 15 posts, right?). I don't think I always stick to it, but it helps in limiting what I post. Maybe that can be a rule in future YPPY games too?

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

I don't know the name of it, but there is a game where the person will began a story and write the first paragraph then they except commands for there characters. It is a story that is guided by the readers. It is really fun, and get pretty crazy. Maybe with more people it would work better. We had about 4 people in on it which wasn't really a lot for what it is happening.

I do hate the other YPPY games. However, at least some creative effort goes into coming up with a reason to ban someone (well, sometimes, presumably). And the Count to X game has some kind of competition thing, which I guess some people might find exciting. The chain game is a demonic entity which consumes the very souls of all who partake in its morbid rituals. It feeds on lifeless, meaningless, pointless, purposeless words. Futility is its life blood, boredom its life mission. It has but one goal, and that goal is featureless complacency. A world with nothing but Pokémon name upon Pokémon name, meaninglessly linked in an endless chain of languor and monotony. Unending, unbroken and utterly uninteresting. It brings no delight, it inflicts no pains. It is, as it will always be. Unchanging and undying, A thread with nothing interesting to bring to its many, many visitors. And yet it remains forever active, kept alive by the pitiful posts of members who have long ago forgotten why they are doing what they are doing. They have lost all emotion long ago. Like the Borg they are a collective of single-minded drones, collectively building a chain which connects nothing to nothing, a chain with billions upon billions of links, each duller than the last. If there is evil in this world it is complacency, the feeling that all is well, that nothing has to change. The chain game is that feeling embodied, given a form most foul and most treacherous. It drains our collective wills, it destroys our hopes and expectations. It reduces us to mere nothingness, empty shells of once proud forum members. Link upon link we forge our own demise, until soon it shackles us all and never lets go. Death will be our only escape, but it will not feel thusly, for all will to live, to be, to exist will have left us long ago. The chain is the noose we will build to hang ourselves, and we will do so willingly, eagerly, all the while thinking... "it is just a game."

Maybe it's just me...

And it's only a whisper of suspicion...

A shadow of a shadow of a doubt...

But I think that maybe, just maybe, c-m has something against the chain game.

Anyway I was thinking of bringing back bacon's brutal brain teasers because I delight in being an unfair asshole. I think it was pretty popular when I last ran it.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Anyone want a Pokébeach tower defence game with players all being a tower or enemy?

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

^That sounds really fun, how would it work?

Your all towers or enemy's and your abilities are based off of your personality. You will need to supply some info for this. Your type (tower or enemy) is randomized. You are on a grid. Enemy's start on one side and towers are in a random spot. The enemy's goal is to get to the other side. The towers will try and stop them by damaging them. Some enemy's can hit back and they may have other abilities as well. If enough enemy's reach the other side they win. The towers goal is to stop the enemy's. They do this by dealing damage. Towers win if all enemy's are defeated. All things except a few towers have a movement speed. If you have a movement speed you can move that many places per turn (yes this is turn based). Diagonals count as 2. Players can share a spaces. All things that do damage have a range counted by squares. In this case diagonals are 1 space. You can deal damage to target(s) x number of times per turn. If you take to much damage you will be defeated (read: eliminated).

If you read all of those rules then thank you.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

I'd like to see a rule placed that you can only play in a limited number of larger games at a time. Specifically to avoid posts like the following:

Yeah, I'm laying low.

Now, if you're wanting us to not lynch you, why on earth are you trying it point out a potential power role?

If you don't have time to participate fully in 4 games, then don't play in 4 games.

That's actually a nice strategy game, Maybe put it up more decently(in terms of arrangement, like it was an actual game's OP and submit it to a Mod, it could turn out good!

CaC isn't actually a game and takes you a day tops(in KoN's case, which is Text-Based), so you can procrastinate on that until you're on WW's night. xD And also, 2 of those WW are "small" games, one being extremely underpopulated and the other one is 1 night long. But it IS worth noticing that if you sign up for that many games you're supposed to have the time for all of them, so it's KoN's fault as well. xD So, let's throw the fault into Container of Night, shall we? :p

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

I only just came back to Pokébeach recently so forgive me for asking what is CaC?

Create-a-Card Contest. xD Actually, the one that should be complaining is myself instead, because I'm one of the Judges+Participating in 2 WW's(the first time in both cases) +Participating in Kingdoms. xD It's in the Fan Fakes Forums, so that could be one of the reasons you might have missed it. My sig is a link to it, FYI.

I was ignoring CaC. KoN is playing 3 WWs and hosting a game according to his post.
