RE: Forum Games General Discussion

If you have time for 3 games why not do it. It isn't like they all take up the same time. You can keep all three tabs up, and post when you need to. It isn't like scheduling two classes, or events at the same time.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

"If you have time" is the big part of your post Mr.Muffin. My example, the quoted individual uses multiple participations as an excuse to not being as active as other players.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

As stated, CaC is not a game. I have the entire month to finish my entry (which I already have, just waiting for the right time to post).
WW does not require so much attention that you can't participate in more than one. I signed up for two and a sub for the third. I'll be honest that I did not expect to be subbed in so quickly. One of the others is a one-day WW and has already reached its last phase, which requires no posting.
Kingdoms, my hosted game, is not difficult to keep up with either.

If I decide to participate in all these at once, that is my concern. I would not sign up for something I don't feel I can do or participate in. If I ever felt overwhelmed with too many games at once, I could always ask to be subbed out from WW.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Generally main Werewolf games are long-term commitments and there are times people cannot be as active due to other short-term responsibilities or events. Of course it makes sense that you shouldn't play if you know you can't be active for a significant part of the game, but if we make it a rule for everyone to be on top activity for a period for 2 months or more we wouldn't get many sign ups and it's also not necessary to keep the game going. People can always be substituted if needed too.

It's good that members bring up their concerns, but since that game is still active I would avoid bringing up specific examples (or continue discussing this case), since the comment could possibly just be part of a strategy of not seeming suspicious while laying low. OC is not allowed.

@Lugia123: That game sounds interesting, but how would you do it on the forum? Maybe I am understanding it wrong, but it sounds like a board game.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

You know how in the beginning of Homestuck Hussie would allow commands to be submitted along with names of characters. I commented on an idea with this earlier. I have more of a fleshed out plan for how it will go off of my past experiences with games like these.

The game goes like this:
Introduction to story>>Command: Pick Name>>New segment of story written about the character>>New Command and repeat until ending. It may very were the writer asks for a choice to be made between a certain number of things. They will start a straw poll if that happens.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Let's have a bi-monthly Skype WW game to be completed in under 3 hours.

*Disclaimer*

Drohn told me to post this here.

Contact Drohn or myself to get added to the Skype group chat!

EDIT: Don't contact me because I don't know how. Drohn put that there :O

That sounds like a lot of fun.

RE: Forum Games General Discussion

Bi-monthly might be a bit much for everyone to be online at the same time. We can create a WW group chat if there is enough interest and those that want to be added can determine together how often/when they want to play it.

Edit: Or we can wait for the chat to be back and use IRC again. I'm almost sure the chat will be ready within about a month.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

That was fun. Does anyone else have any ideas for games that may or may not involve banning? :p

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I've got a few ideas for Chatroom Games (ie. fast-paced Forum Games) so whenever the Chat thingy is back up and running I'll spout some fun ideas for that.

Today I had an idea for applying the classic boardgame Battleship to a forum game. I dunno if it's been done here before (I'm still kinda new to this subforum and the Search function doesn't work for me), but here's my interpretation of it nonetheless:

The game-master/host has a big blank 'map' of the game in the OP, and assigns each player a ship through a private message. Then, players can post in the thread where they'd like to shoot (announcing it as if they were playing Battleship, so they'd say "Shooting at A4"). The game-master/host would then update the map with either a hit or a miss, and announce the name of the player who was hit.
Grid-plain.jpg

So this would be in the OP. "Hits" and "Misses" would be added as more shots are fired by players. Once a ship is completely sunk, it could appear on the grid for everyone to see.
Obviously the grid would be larger for more players - you don't want it too cramped! And a larger grid would let the game last a lot longer too!

To make this more strategic/interesting/fun/whatever, you could arrange players into teams (or fleets, for the swashbucklers). Last team standing wins. Or players could arrange themselves into teams/fleets. You get the gist of it.

And to make it more 'typical' alongside other forum games, you could use the days/nights timekeeping thing as well. You could then even limit the number of shots a player/team can fire in a day or night, to prevent players from just spamming shots everywhere.

And I was thinking of a name for this Battleship variant too: Battleships FFA for the free-for-all version, and Pirates VS Privateers for a two-team version, and Fleets for a multi-team version. The names don't have to be those but I don't wanna rip-off Battleships too heavily, so I think a new name would be good...

Thoughts?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I have talked to ice arceus about my fakemon game, and I have the judges lined up and the rules almost done, as well.
I wanted to wait until the forum was less flooded with games, but it seems that moment is now, with the challenge in a lull and no more YPPY games, so, is there interest in participating in that kind of game?
we (the judges and myself) were thinking at least three teams of 1/3 people, but if we have more, there's no problem.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I'm terrible with Art, but I could try to help out with the competitive aspects. The game definitely sounds fun. So it fits Forum Games better than Fan Fakes?

Our plan was to host it in fan fakes but include direct links to it on forum games and competitive play, to encourage people from all fields to participate, because it would be a game, but incorporating the art and design of fan fakes, and the knowledge of pokemon from competitive; and since players can team up, no one is left with excessive work.
Of course, whoever wants to enter solo is free to do so.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

If only I can draw. Unless you count 4 year old MS Paint drawings.

Seems like it could be fun for a YPPY game. I'd play it. I'll get out this in preparation.

Maybe some sort of twisted one: 4 Teams, each team has an allignment and they attack like this:
T=Team, M=Member
T1, M1
T2, M1
T3, M1
T4, M1
T1, M2
T2, M2
(...)
T4, Mn
-----
T1, M1
T2, M1

And so on. It's like a YPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPY, but it's still valid. ;) Jokes aside, sounds like a nice game!

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

To be clear: I won't host any games. I just put the ideas forward. I barely have enough time to keep my thread in Fan Fakes updated
If anyone wants to run a Battleship game, go right ahead.

Luispipe8 - so, like how they do it in the Worms videogame series? I think that'd be very good!

Exactly like Worms!!! :D Wasn't sure anyone knew a lot about it, though. :p

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

The Challenge season 5 is winding down now, so I think it's time we opened up applications for The Challenge 6! If you would like to host The Challenge 6, PM me, Drohn, or Keeper of Night your application. Here's what you'll need to PM us:
  • The number of players and teams your game will have.
  • Any initial plot/theme your game has (such as the Arceus/Dialga/Palkia/Giratina story PG24 used in his game).
  • The name of your co-host.
  • Any other important information about the game that is public to the players.
As said above, we are now also requiring hosts of The Challenge to have a co-host. Members may volunteer to be co-hosts in this thread, or if the host has someone in mind, they can just pick them, too.
