RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I hope the trout... I mean slap game will only run for one week or so.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

We always include the end date in the first reply when we approve games that don't have an end goal. In this case it's open for a week (until September 9th), since a major part of it happens during the night phases of the WW main game and Kingdoms. Otherwise it likely would have been open several days.

YPPY idea...Create A Song

Pretty much each person posts a sentence. The person below posts a sentence that rhymes with the above sentence. After 4 posts the next poster can post a new song. There is also a chorus that will be the theme of the song.

Rough idea, any suggestions?

It sounds like it would be fun, but it seems a little too similar to A Bard's Tale. Maybe a little while after that game has ended we could do this game.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I think unstickying Athena's Vigilante game might increase the amount of sign-ups for it. Having it unstickied would make more people notice it as it would be in and around other threads that people visit and they would be more likely to click on it. From my experience in other forums on other websites there tends to be less posts in sticky threads even if they aren't just rule threads. Since there aren't many games around anyway it is unlikely that the thread would be bumped down into oblivion, so there is no danger that it would be lost.

Actually I think it makes much more sense having sign ups stickied, because then if you are dead in the werewolf game or w/e you can just look at the top of the forums list. If it is down with the other games and you are not a part of it, you would just assume that you missed the chance to sogn up, despite the tag. In fact, with YPPY games, there are more threads around, which makes this an even worse idea,

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Confusion about whether sign-ups are ongoing can be avoided by putting in the thread title something like, "Sign-Ups Ongoing". There are currently 3 YPPY Threads out of 11 active ones in this forum, and scrolling to the point of 'Create New Thread' allows you to see the first 12, so I don't see any danger of the thread being lost.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

How about some kind of namecalling game? Here's how it would work:

-Each Player gives a nickname to the above poster that coincides with their name, avatar, personality, etc.

-If a post is given 5 or more likes, than the player given the new nickname must insert that name somewhere in their signature or user title for the duration of the game.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

What if two nick names both get more than 5 likes? Are we just going to make a long list of nicknames? If it is once you get 5 likes you are out then the game is done pretty quickly.

Good point. Scratch this game idea.

The idea of having "sign up games" threads sticky is so they are easy to find. People that open the forum can instantly see for which games they can sign up to participate. If hosts prefer that their thread isn't sticky during the sign up period they can always ask the moderators to unstick it.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

So a good friend of mine and I have introduced the concept of werewolf to our cross country team, and most of the other members like the idea of it, even if they don't completely understand it yet. We have a team pasta party coming up, and the two of us want to host a small irl game that night for twelve people, with possibly one or two more. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, since they're all mostly new to the concept, but still give each player something special. Would anyone mind critiquing the setup for me?

1. Seer
2. Mason
3. Mason
4. Priest
5. Mayor (3 vote weight)
6. Vigilante (1-shot)
7. Roleblocker
8. Bulletproof Townie (1-shot)
9. Innocent Child
10. Godfather Wolf
11. Roleblocker Wolf
12. Janitor Wolf (1-shot)

All of the roles will be based off of people associated with our team, like coaches, former team members, etc., and the wolves will be runners from competing teams. It's awfully convenient that we've got an alumni who's now training to become a priest, and another training to become a cop, so it works out pretty well. :D

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

May I suggest for irl mafia for there not to be some kind of alpha wolf? Generally I find it works better if you manage to put everyone somewhere where they can't see the others on their own, and then take the wolf faction and discuss the kill untl you come up with an unanimous decision for the target.

Also, how are you going to get the masons to work? It would be a bit obvious if two of your players ran off to chat... They would either be lynched immediately under suspicion of wolfchat or NK'd immediately by the wolves. If ypu want two town roles which directly coincide with each other, may I suggest "quarreling lovers"? They aren't very common in Werewolf, but they are basically two townies where if one dies the other does too, however, (and is is forum mafia now), they cannot talk out of thread like regular lovers. I've used it a little IRL since introducing mafia to the school and it often works well.

Also, a scum post restriction setter (or speech restriction setter) can be absolutely hilarious.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Basically, we would have everybody in a circle in one room, and have them put their heads down. Then at the start we'd have only the wolves look up, so they know who each other are, then put their heads down. The same thing would then happen for the two masons. So none of them can actually talk to each other, they just know the identities of their groups. I got the basic concept for the gameplay from this wikihow article: http://m.wikihow.com/Play-Mafia

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I would definitely remove the town role blocker and the priest could work instead like this: at the end of the night gets told who gets killed and can save them (can save only once). Also will the players know the setup?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

The players won't know the setup, at least for the first game. We may decide to play it multiple times if it goes well.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Over the past couple of days, I've been working on a concept for a new type of game I'd like to try out hosting some time in the future. The basic idea is that a number of players will make their way around an old (possibly haunted) mansion in search of clues to a hidden treasure, interacting with the things in the rooms and other players. While most people will just be looking for the treasure, others will have... ulterior motives that they'll try to accomplish. It would be a bit smaller than a game of Werewolf, probably 15 or 16 players at the max, but I think that it could work out well.

I'd like to see if anyone would be interested in co-hosting the game with me before going much further, since I don't want to risk letting it go the way of Seleno City. Any takers?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Was just checking up on this thread and saw no one responded to TwistedTurtwig... I might be able to co-host that sort of game with you any time after October, TT. It sounds really fun!

I am working on my own game - polishing up that Battleship-styled game from a page ago - so I'll hopefully be running that in November. I'm gonna call it Pokemon: Fog Of War for now. I'm working out the kinks and adding ways to make that sort of thing more RPG-like, but I also have university until the end of October so I won't be hosting anything any time soon.

A question to help me plan Pokemon: Fog Of War though: Would people prefer a team-based game or a free-for-fall game?

I'll be creating the game to suit both, but it'd be handy to know what people would want for the first game at least. And at the moment I'm leaning towards team-based because it'd be more organized. FFA would possibly last longer and be more chaotic/fun for players though. I dunno. Thoughts?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Team-based is always fun. pb likes that.

ANYWAY WEREWOLF

I don't like forcing co-hosts on anyone. That's why, whenever I had people submit applications to host, I would ask them to tell me if they were open to having a co-host. Doing that lets multiple people host who might have the same idea, or want to see what the responsibilities of hosting are like. Unsurprisingly, most people were not open to the idea of co-hosts.

Here's what I think should be done regarding co-hosts: Optional, but anyone who has or is willing to have one is looked at more favorably when compared to a submission from a similar member who does not have or is not willing to have a co-host (i.e. both members meet only the bare minimum requirements for hosting on pb). Anyone who has hosted a substantial game or competition on pb to completion will not be prejudiced against for choosing not to have a co-host since they have proven they have the drive and desire to get things done.

Those would be the extremes, and you could use your best judgment when comparing submissions. Speaking of, I need to submit mine.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Since fan fakes doesn't have a thread similar to this one, and since this would be shared between fan fakes, competitive and forum games, I shall ask here.
These are the presumably-final rules to Pokebeach's Make-A-Pokemon contest:

Objective
To create at least one pokemon, according to the theme the judges give each month, with these criteria in mind:
- Coherence with the existing pokemon
Fakemon don't exist in a vacuum; all pokemon created will be judged on how well they fit in pokemon's design philosophy and style.
- Thoroughness
All submissions must be well thought; not all features need to be accounted for, but the judges can (and will) ask for further explanations on some features as part of their judgement.
- Competitive viability
The pokemon don't need to be on any specific tier (unless specified by the theme), but their movesets and abilities must be properly analyzed as part of the design process; a balance between competitive ability and design is ideal, although not required.
- Compliance with the theme
Each month, the judges will give a theme to the participants to make a pokemon. Pokemon that don't follow the theme will not be considered for judging.

Judges
Professorlight
Mr. green
Mr. black
Mr. pink

Participants
Can enter solo or in teams of up to 3 people
can talk freely in-thread, help/hinder the others as they'd like, it's completely up to them.

Requirements for entries
- Design and at least one drawing for at least one pokemon that complies with the theme
- Sketches or concepts for other pokemon in the line, or counterparts, if applicable (not particularly obligatory)
- Name + etymology
- Pokedex entries (2)
- Size, weight
- Egg group
- EVs
- Types
- Abilities
- Stats
- Moves, Egg moves, TM moves
- The team’s thoughts on the pokemon competitively
- The team’s thoughts on the design, inspiration, etc

Timeline
- Start of the month: the theme is announced, signups will open.
- During second week: signups continue, the teams can show their work in thread once (not obligatory).
- During third week: signups continue, the teams can show their work in thread once (not obligatory).
- Fourth week: signups end, the teams must deliver the work to the judges, who judge and declare a winner.
So, as you can see, it would be like CAC, but with pokemon, and teams.

What I wanted to know is; how much interest would there be on participating? it would be quite silly if we ended up hosting it only to have one team join, so I'd like to get some input before officially sending it to ice arceus for approval. Is it too demanding? should there be less things? is the competition aspect fine?
