RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

This is getting too complicated.

If a host is chosen ask him/her to come up with a outline for the game. If they do back out have them send there co-host the outline. If they want to make sure their story meets the conclusions they set then have then write the story events for the host to just copy and paste. This is still not the ideal scenario but shit happens.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

So I think we've decided that it is no longer required to have a co-host/back-up host for your game. However, newer members are recommended to have a co-host for their game (although it is still not necessary, unless that member has negative history on the forums). There, I hope you're all happy now.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Hi members of the World of Werewolf! I have three different WW games fully planned, found here. I cannot possibly hope to host all of them but I still want people to experience them!
Therefore, if you are interested in hosting a WW game, but cannot be bothered to make a game, you can use my plan (includes flavour, roles, etc)! What I am thinking is that you will host, but I will 'co-host' in the way of collaborating with the person hosting. Please PM me if you are interested!

NOTE: The images look much better when the doc has been downloaded!

EDIT: That should be the final for banners and etc. Thanks to bigfoot for helping me.

Aw, you should've told me to download the document when you were asking for banner feedback! Welp, ignore the stuff about pixelation in my feedback PM. All other feedback should still apply.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Are there any guides to making good forum games and/or making resources (such as images) for forum games?
As bbninjas mentioned in the WW Master Thread, having guides for banners (an image resource) would be handy for hosts. I'd like to see if there's any other guides for forum games and anything related to them.

And a follow-up question: What sort of guides would be useful for this subforum? How To Make A Good YPPY Game? How To Make A Good Complex Game?

EDIT: I think I worded it better in a message to Drohn: "It could have guides on what makes a good forum game (for various types of games ranging from YPPY to WW) and links to guides on how to make cool images and stuff for games. Stuff to help more people make more games in the Forum Games subforum, basically." Any contributions would be awesome.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

So, as you guys may or may not know (but hopefully do), I managed to snag a spot on the WW queue and will be running my first WW game here. I'm very excited! This is not my first time hosting a WW game (far from it; I've hosted 20 WW games elsewhere of varying complexity), but it is my first time running a WW game here. I have the basics of the game more or less worked out, but need to hammer out the details. On one hand, I'd love feedback from you guys regarding what you'd like to see and how you feel about a few different things, but I don't want to clog up this thread with a bunch of questions or anything, so I thought I would make a quick google form as a questionnaire.

If you like playing (or even just reading!) WW games and might be interested in playing (or, again, reading along with) my uncoming game, Party in Kanto, I would really like it if you wouldn't mind taking a few moments to fill it out. You can find the form here. There's only 10 questions and most of them multiple choice (and some completely optional), so it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes, and the feedback would be very good for me, and also for you all since it means you get a better game. :D

Here's the link again, on its own line, because I can do that.

If you have any questions or other comments, you're welcome to reach out to me here via PM or profile comment, or via skype if you're in the main chat or have me added to your contact list.

Much thanks! <3

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

You should really explain what you mean by location mechanic. Do you mean like the stages in PMJ's Smash Bros. WW? Something else? How would they affect the game?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I am in the process of looking over previous games that have been run here, but I haven't come across that one yet. Looking at the list, I assume you mean this game? The only thing similar to Locations that I see in the OP are the "Battle Stages" but that doesn't really seem the same at all (though I guess I'd have to read the full game instead of just the OP to see). Games with Location mechanics are fairly common where I come from, though I wasn't sure if it would be the same here. I will do my best to explain simply.

Games with Locations give every player an additional choice to make during the night phase, a Location to move to (or stay at, if they happen to like the place they're at) with flavour that matches the flavour of the game. Locations usually provide a bonus or additional mechanic of some kind, and may be tied into player roles. For example, I had a Location in a recent game I ran that increased the amount of information in the Night Plot based on how many players were at the Location. There may also be roles that interact with the Locations, such as someone who can watch a Location and see everyone who is there overnight. Sometimes games start with all Locations immediately available; others have some hidden Locations that can be unlocked by various player options. Similarly, sometimes Locations are fully explained in the OP, but sometimes they must be spaded by the players.

One of the biggest benefits is that Location mechanics, like Item mechanics, give things for all players to do during the game, even if a player has only a vanilla role or passive role. That said, they can still function well in chocolate/role-madness environments for players who like a more chaotic game environment.

Hopefully that makes sense, though feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Actually... that location mechanic is notably different to my idea (and very cool)... ignore my comment!

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I've been pondering on making some sort of forum version gmod game. Who would like to play?

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

What's a gmod game?

@Athena: Just read up on the location explanation. That seems pretty interesting.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Garry's mod, which is a large expansive mod for Half Life, has a variety of games to play ranging from Terrorists in Troll Town to Prop Hunt to Murder.
Commonly played by LP'ers when they have no other material to record.

No, that would be dead chatting, which on most sites results in a ban from the next 3 werewolf games or more.

Just to clarify, on PokéBeach dead chatting is also against the rules if the hosts says it is. It's their game and it's very disrespectful to ignore those rules. We don't, however, ban people for 3 games when that happens. If a member does cheat it is up to the host to decide how to deal with the cheater in their game (they should always remain fair in doing that too). If we notice people do it more often (not by mistake), it can mean we will take extra action against the member, such as (temporarily) banning them from other games. Game hosts can also deny a sign up if they have good reasoning (such as a history of cheating). If hosts choose to do this it's best to contact a Moderator about it to avoid arguments between members and/or mini-modding.

Once a player is dead it is impossible to punish them further in a game, which is why dead chatting is such an extreme exception to "the host rules" rule. Lots of sites have a blacklist of users with a history of cheating. Of course, this site actually has a lot less cheating than most, so this is more of a "just in case" rule, but the host can't even modkill a player who is deadchatting -- they are already dead.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

That sentence was to clarify that in a game the hosts generally are the ones that decide how to deal with any rule breaking member, not just dead chatting. They can always get help from Moderators. We will definitely step in if we notice members are purposely breaking rules or do not cooperate when they are warned for their behaviour. It's very situational, however, and we won't instantly ban someone from games if they are new or simply made a mistake and didn't understand something. Hosts are given the freedom to deny a sign up, as I mentioned, if they have good reasoning and don't want to take the risk. I'm glad we don't need blacklists here. :p Let's keep it that way.

I can modkill dead players. I simply remove their win condition, which makes them automatically lose. (Also ban them from all my upcoming games and encourage others to do so too.)

Hurt/Heal 2.

Ok, before you start screaming hear me out.

The concept of hurt/heal was actually pretty good. Hurt a pokemon, heal a pokemon. However I was an inexperienced game host and a lot more immature back when I ran it which called for poor execution. Alliances had its ups and downs but ultimately hurt the game and I was a fool to be somewhat of a biased game host and take part in these alliances instead of stopping them. I believe that I am much more mature and am capable of hosting projects and activities (see: both pokemon shuffle threads). If you do not trust me, I do not blame you. I am fine with a person like Drohn hosting it. However I think that with right execution hurt and heal can become a great game!

I'd just like to say that I think you could be a great host, YPPY or not. However, hurt/heal is an awful game and led to the banning of YPPY in the past. While I wouldn't mind YPPY being banned, I think it's quirky, and actually a good game even popped up once! I just think that it is a bad game, but I'm sure you could host another game a bit better.
