How does H/H work?
You have to try to spend you whole life on the forum and make everyone else hate you as quickly as possible. If you succeed in this you win. You can't win.

It was modding H/H that scarred me for life...

Basically everyone set up alliances centred around certain Pokémon and it turned into a flame war of essentially "Pikachu is better!" "No, Charizard is better!"

Oh... I'm pretty sure the game could work, though. Except I think the mod should be tracking the scores, not the players. Over 500 posts, wow.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

There were also people who threw temper tantrums at people hurting their favourite Pokémon, etc. and so forth. It was just a mess.

That's true actually. It's a very long game and is against the rules of this subforum now because it can't have a deadline; the length of the game depends on what is hurt and what is healed.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

To be honest, I would rather not have to deal with moderating another H/H. It seems too prone to the possibility of flaming, and general negativity towards each other, which is always something we should try to avoid when making games. As Celever said, that's no fault of your own hosting skills, Reggie. It's just the core mechanics of the game are flawed.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

H/H is awful. It's addicting, very time consuming and it destroys friendships better than any other game I know.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Actually, after thinking for a bit I think that there is too much negatives to the H/H game. I think that the PB Forum Game community needs to make more Pokemon related games like Kingdoms. I have some basic ideas rooting, that I could grow if enough interest is displayed.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I have a concept for a good Pokémon forum game, I will post it at some point, don't know when though.

Like this post if you are interested, I guess?

This comment sticks out to me. Why? Because the first thing I think about when reading this comment is Flappy Bird.

If you're gonna run a forum game, don't let it be a Flappy Bird. Flappy Bird wasn't made famous for being fun, it was made famous for being difficult and rage-inducing.
(And yeah I think this is the second time I've used Flappy Bird as an example here on FG but it still holds true.)

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

It's actually funny because I've seen H/H games run on so many other forums before and somehow PokéBeach is the only place that's made it into a drama-filled nightmare.

- Favourite Pokémon is a somewhat touchy subject here
- Part of the reason it didn't work were the lenght of the game and elimination/finals system

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Thanks for your opinions, all! I wouldn't mind hosting a game, I see that H/H is generally disliked and to that I can say amen.

I do think that we need more Pokemon related games, after all that is what makes this fourm special ;)

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

I have been reading a few quicktopics and other WW threads just for some tips/references for any of my future WW games and come across safe claims created by the host for the scum. Is this normal? If so, what exactly are these safe claims like and should I be making these for any WW games I host? Thanks in advance!

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Safe claims are a nice idea in general, but very important if you have a game that is flavour-based. For example, if you have a game where the townies are superheroes and the scum are super villains, then all the innos need to do to find the scum is to have everyone post a name claim in the thread. Scum are at a severe disadvantage in this case because they can't make up a claim because they don't know if an innocent already has that role name.

How much detail you want to put into a fake claim is up to you. Generally speaking, it's a good idea to give your scum enough information that they can claim in thread and have the claim pass muster of its own accord. If you allow people to copy GM information, you'd probably want to make an entire fake role PM for them to share.

Mostly this kind of thing is important because it's much more fun (for town and scum alike) for people to find scum based on actions, lies, etc. rather than for silly meta-reasons regarding claim details and such.

It depends on the host, and the flavor of the game. If the flavor of the game requires anti-town to have a believable name, a fake claim will usually be provided. But if it's easy to make up something random for a role, fake claims aren't necessary. Really, it's up to the host. Either of these could be done the opposite way, if you think it's healthy for the game. As for what to make the fake claims, it's up to you. You can just give them a role name, or flavor for all their roles. Either work, really.

RE: Game Suggestions & General Discussion

Alternatively, you could try the One Night Werewolf idea of unused roles. Admittedly it only works as well as it does in ONWW because role-swapping is possible and all roles are publicly known, but unused roles can still be worth looking in to.
