RE: Writer's Lounge

Brief example: I know a series that has each book split in three main parts, each of those parts split in standard chapters.
I have no idea if this was your intent or not, but I read that as "Lord of the Rings".

RE: Writer's Lounge

Eragon came to my mind when I thought about what he said, but I don't remember if it was set up like that... >.>

RE: Writer's Lounge

Each of the Lord of the Rings books has 2 different "books" themselves so yeah that's a fair example. The Godslayer Chronicles are other examples and I can think of others I've read...even if I can't recall the titles. I might just leave the chapters unnamed for now.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Alright! Topic changer: I'm planning to possibly do a new writing contest in the next week or so that isn't poetry related. Zy suggested something on the lines of a Robin Round contest after I mentioned to him I was planning this, but I still haven't worked on details, rules, and whatnot and was wondering if anyone would enter the contest, or had any suggestions to add?

RE: Writer's Lounge

To clarify, a Robin Round is basically an unfinished story pasted around the table, where each person puts their own part in it. This way, each person gets their own fair chance to continue the story, provided the submitted part is acceptable to become the next part of the tale.

RE: Writer's Lounge

We've held Unfinished Page contests in the past, so this would basically be an adaptation of that, right?

RE: Writer's Lounge

Some sort of adaptation/variation, yes. The Unfinished Page was a contest. But I believe it's better if we simply make this a simple project for trying to encourage many to participate.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I'll be writing up the rules over the weekend and try to get specifics down before posting a thread for this competition. I've good ideas in mind, but probably won't start this until midweek.

Also, I'll be starting the next haiku contest quick, though voting is still going on for the current one. Just wondering if I should start it today to allow people more time to enter or just leave it until tomorrow when I close voting on the other one.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Seems fair enough. The key thing to keep in mind is to make sure the rules are simple and keep the story simple, so we won't have tons of complications.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Should I set a baseline then? For instance, the story should have something to do with a given subject or topic people need to have incorporated into the plot.

RE: Writer's Lounge

There's no need for such a focus. As long as you emphasize to require that the written events be logical, you can maintain a balance of orderly movement and open-ended ideas. You can't pull something out of thin air if it makes no sense at all.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I'll start it Monday or Tuesday sometime then. Weekends I can normally just get online with my phone, or I'd have this up already. Interest in doing this is what I'm looking for right now, though.

RE: Writer's Lounge

"Robin Round", or "Round Robin"?

RE: Writer's Lounge

Yeah, switch 'em up and that's what we meant. In either case, I've gotten a go-ahead and am prepping things for about midweek.

In the meantime, there's a new round for the haiku contest up as of yesterday. So, sign-ups for that are open again! This other one should be up Wednesday or so.

RE: Writer's Lounge

WOA, I just saw that it is like the 4th haiku contest....

Were have I been?

RE: Writer's Lounge

Actually we're on the fifth. They're biweekly, so they're relatively quick. I'll keep them going so long as people are interested. If nothing else, it gives people something to do since this forum is otherwise a bit inactive, despite a few regulars posting their work still.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Well, good luck to everyone participating in the contest! ^_^

/me doesn't like Halloween that much and thus won't be going for a consecutive win.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I wouldn't be interested much, I am slammed with homework...

Dumb honors....
