Inactivity and the source of it.

RE: Inactivity.

That's the Game Corner though. It's just a game in which veteran (or for that matter any) member can have a chuckle and play the role of a n00b. Were talking about that in forums where no one wants to see it.

RE: Inactivity.

Yeah I know but when go adsjieWUFHIBfl thats what the noobs are dooing for real!

Now, let me ask u, if ur a pro player where would u go? gym or beach?

If you were a pro player then you'd obviously need to go to neither. But if I had to choose it would probably be Pokegym unfortunately because it has so many more intelligent topics that we can talk in. There's little to no intelligent topics on Pokebeach. Everything these days is n00bs spamming.

RE: Inactivity.

Unfortunate as it may be, Abhorsen is right. However, everyone was a n00b at some point in their lives, and even though we have many young people here, they will eventually become like us. I have seen it happen many times on Pokemon forums I have been to in the past six to seven years.

RE: Inactivity.

That sounds reasonable. With time this may get better. (About n00bs, don't remind me when I was one :p)
A good idea is to do something with the clans and clubs forum. Though many n00bs discharge some of their n00bishness, they also "train" to be more n00bish and spammier. but there are some intelligent ones (Few)... what a dilema :S

RE: Inactivity.

N00bs are a central problem in inactivity. As Abhorsen said, forums such as Pokegym have many more intelligent discussions. Thus, many more veteran members spend more time of forums like Pokegym than here.

As for n00bs, I agree with you that the moderators are in control, but there are just too many n00bs. True, we were all n00bs, and many of them will come around, but that doesn't solve the problem.

RE: Inactivity.

Making members read the rules/noobnerds guide is a good idea in theory, but the problem is we can't make sure the newer members go ahead and read it. It's not as if we're breathing over their shoulder and physically forcing them after all.

Some forums have the "wait one day until you post" policy, which will deter quite a number of spammy members just looking for... a laugh, ahem. But it would also frighten off potentially good members as well, perhaps.

RE: Inactivity.

How about 1 hour?

Although I don't see how this is going to prevent INACTIVITY, the actual title of this thread :F

RE: Inactivity.

It will reduce the amount of spam topics and allow more intelligent conversations to take place.

RE: Inactivity.

It's not that spam topics will be reduced or that more intelligent topics will appear, but that there aren't many people on this forum who start intelligent topics. When they do (on the rare occasion) they get spammed by n00bs who think they know what they're talking about but really have no idea.

I want topics where I can have a decent argument or discussion in depth about an issue in the TCG or videogames. I can really only think of 1 instance where I had that on Pokebeach and it was with InfiniteMasterEx on why Unlimited is such an unfair format. N00bs just came in an spammed on why Supporter cards were so good... seriously, the majority had no idea at all and it was completely sad. I don't like to tell people to not post but sometimes people just need to learn that some discussion topics aren't meant for them and not post at all. I don't post that much anymore mainly because there's no one to sustain a decent discussion with except for the mods.

When do you see a normal member post more than 2 decently sized paragraphs in any of their posts? Or posts which contain more than 100 words? Very rarely. When I do post more than a sentence it's out of most people's attention spans to read the rest of my post due its length so that's why I don't get many comments about what i've said. I find that it's only a select few people on this forum (not naming names) that really know what they're talking about and it's quite easy to pick the pros from the n00bs merely because of post content and length. It's sad that Pokebeach has degenerated to this level and i'm hoping that we get more people on here to boost it up, but those people would probably leave because there wouldn't be many people to talk in depth with.

It's also slightly annoying when people say they're not n00bs but in reality they still are. The majority of people on here are n00bs (there I said it). It's really only about 10-15% of posters that aren't n00bs if I had to put a figure on it.

RE: Inactivity.

Yes that's true. What are they thinking? perhaps this?? "this guy posts too much.... why reading that trash?" and when they reply:"I like cheese" :p  That's called UBER spamming by super n00bs, the super mods' nemesis :p

About the being so many n00bs and so few intelligent members, just like I've said before, they see thinking is too hard work, the easy thing's easier (that's when they use all of their brainpower) and they do that, causing tons of disaster. plus another thing is that some little kids join, and when they become older, they leave for unknown reasons and reduce the amount of thinking people, that, on a side note, they would become mods and help the existing ones to fight off the n00bs.
Maybe a n00b-door to PB (maybe someone's killing me after this) is the PB wi-fi league. Many people that haven't been in any forums and see that they can find many other people there to battle, trade, etc., and they register here. Then, since they're here, they start posting, and posting, and posting (which can be traduced to: they start spamming, and spamming, and spamming) and fill PB with their n00bishnes. It's like advertising. They won't stop until you buy the product, only that here isn't a limit, or one, but it would be to ban them all the time... then PB will be really inactive because only few would remain. Again, a dilema :S.

What we know is that we have to do something when they register but what?
Maybe asking what's OMG and they only enter if they answer right? :p

Back to unactivity (remember the server braking down?):

It appears that your web server has also been the victim of a few networking issues (in addition to a dramatic increase in visitors). Should these problems persist, let us know and I will check into transferring your account to a different server

This is strong proof that PB is really active. And many (including me)shall think that those members browsing PB are n00bs. And a reason is:

WPM's several messages said:
If you have Diamond and / or Pearl and have not joined our Diamond and Pearl Wi-Fi League, you are officially missing out. <--- good of him that he stopped advertising, but n00bs keept coming

The Wi-Fi League is booming <---- until the site boomed, and our heads of reading n00bs posts
That's why I said that th wi-fi  league is a reason. I don't blame WPM for creating the league and advertising it, I mean, any good webmaster wants his site to have many members. But...

RE: Inactivity.

Yes, the n00b count has been very high lately.

I remember back when I joined these forums in April, it was a very nice place to be. Then they came. Every day, there would be more and more people who don't use correct grammer or spelling, who just randomly posted mindless things, etc. After about a month, the place was swarming with n00bs, and it was getting very annoying. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice place to be, its just that the n00b craziness is getting very high.

About a week ago Kevin Garret created the forums for his big hit, the Official Sinnoh league. He invited me to join, so accepted. When I got there, it felt completely fresh and new. Everyone used correct grammer, etc., it several intelligent conversation came up. Seeing all this unn00bishness, made me realize that the Pokebeach Forums is getting clogged up with n00bs. Luckily, the Official Sinnoh League forums is still a great place, where intelligent conversations take place, and it's free of n00bishness. I really hope it stays that way.

Back on the subject, yes, something needs to be done about the n00bs dulling the place down. The thing is, is that we really can't enforce anything too drastic in order to keep the majority of them away....

RE: Inactivity.

It's amazing. If you look at the past month and a half of members, barely any of them have many posts. If you look at the post quality too, it's not all that great. Especially the new member today who didn't seem too happy with PMJ, and that's saying it lightly.

Today was very inactive. Perhaps it's because today is Father's Day, but I don't know.

RE: Inactivity.

That PMJ thing was funny. Wish I had enemies like that :p

Well we all know what to do guys, try and set an example. Try and set a goal, like making one intelligent thread wide open for discussion once a week, or something. Hey I might just do that myself actually, could be fun.

RE: Inactivity.

That's actually a pretty good idea, bacon.  If we just create several intelligent threads, something good might happen..

Typically, when I see someone who didn't capitalize his/her usename, a little alarm in my head goes of saying, "Beep! Beep! Beep! Noob Alert, Noob Alert!" But, that's not always true. Take bacon for example. He's not a n00b.

RE: Inactivity.

Good point Togeshroob. Usually that alarm goes off in my head too. I like the idea that we should create intelligent conversation. In the Diamond and Pearl Discussion forums there are only question, many of them have been asked a dozen times already. We should create topics that we know the answres to, but are open for interpretation and discussion.

Then we can do many little things ;) we could make them read noobnerd's guide (not enforced, but we don't lose anything for trying) as smoe said earlier, also to read the rules (at least the little "6-min-to-read" update), and so forth.

I too despise n00bs, but we must let them come. For if n00bs leave, they will never evolve. Why I bet PMJ was a n00b when he first joined. And bacon, Abhorsen, all the mods and all the intelligent people. Everyone has been a n00b, it's just the begining. If the n00bs keep coming eventually they''l strain out. Quiting, not posting, or shedding their n00b ways. So people, lend me your n00bs. And let us tuen them into the acceptable kind of posters, since we stress that their learning makes them inferior. KG, many of those people are quite simply spammers, which is totally unrelated. Not everyone is perfect. Think of how boring that would be.
