I'm officially choosing Chespin. He has my favorite final evolution. I... Well Fennekin is my favorite as the initial starter, but I'm a bit disappointed it lost it's glamour in the final evolution. I still like Delphox, and I completely understand the design concept. It's just a bit to "old witch hag"-ish in my opinion. Overall, it's still a good design. And I am SO happy Greninja is legit. But yeah, that Chesnaught is epic.

I mean I can sort of see what they wanted to do with Delphox but I don't know if it's really executed as well as (at least I) would hope. I mean I see they were trying to go for the whole mage theme but I'm holding my judgement until I see it animated. At this point it seems like I will be going with Froakie though. I didn't really have an idea of what starter I wanted because I liked all of them but Froakie always stuck out to me.

Considering Froakie's second form seems to have something about it that is supposedly 'yakuza' related (at least on Bulbapedia)- I'm pretty pleased with Greninja.

Say Chesnaught out loud. Then say chestnut out loud. See how they sound similar? It's not as if they're Chesnight and chestnut or something.

naught is an "ah" (like the doctor says "say ah")
nut is an "uh" (like when you can't think of what to say "uh, uh, uh, umm, uh," something to that effect)

They're completely different sounds.

I-I'm pretty sure it can be a play on multiple things. It wouldn't be the first time a pokemon name held more than one similar meaning.

Alright, the scarf around Greninja's neck looks like it's tongue, but in the picture of him smiling it doesn't look to be his tongue at all... Is it really just a scarf that STRONGLY resembles a tongue then?

[split] What Do You Think of the Starters?

I need SERIOUS help figuring out which starter to get! This is the TOUGHEST decision I have had in Pokemon. The last time I loved the starters so much was 2nd gen... but I had one strong favorite (totodile) and liked the rest evenly. THIS time I am strongly attached to both Fennekin and Chespin. I need help. I need reasons to pick one or the other! I am going over my likes and dislikes so much now that I think I am making it worse.

Who should I pick and why?

My thoughts:

-My gut reaction was to Fennekin but I clicked afterward with Chespin when I realised he was a hedgehog-chestnut hybrid
-In terms of second evolved forms, I find both great but I am less partial to a bipedal fox Pokemon; it simply was not what I expected from Fennekin and I wasn't entirely swayed by it, although I do like the evolution
-The final evolutions have me favoring Chespin but I like the concept of Fennekin's final form
-I have nicknames finally decided for both and they make it hard to choose; I want Chespin to (potentially) be called Quillord or Knightquill (pun-believable!!) and I decided I definitely want Fennekin to be called Flamel based on the alchemist and excellent element connection with his overall theme
-I find both easy to connect to and adorable

Please help me balance the two out! Are you team Chespin or team Fennekin? Convince me which to pick.

I feel like I am one of the only ones that absolutely LOVES Froakie's line... I think the tongue aspect is so unique. I am definitely going to name mine either Gamakichi or Gamabunta Lol.

If you follow the lines on the tongue, you can see that it's actually the tongue coming out from the left corner of the mouth.

If you look closely it looks like the tongue is coming out to the left side (your right) Greninja's mouth.

The point was that another possible reason it has it's name is because of how it sounds like chestnut. I mean, why else would they go back to chestnut after Quiladin? Why not go with something like Castalor or Gallanthorn or something? Because Chesnaught reminds people it's the chestnut bursting from the shell theme, not some random thing going on.

My guess is that whoever started this conversation thought that Chesnaught's name sounding similar to chestnut (which it was based on) was interesting.

This conversation came out of me wanting to know the basis for Chesnaught's name. Dreadnaught + Chestnut. And subsequently the pronunciation, "Ches" like Chestnut + "naught" like Dreadnaught. The conversation was then over.

Rant: How the fact that Chesnaught sounds like chestnut even needed to be brought up, after the fact, I might add, is beyond me. It is based off of chestnut, of course it sounds like it. The need to point this out makes no freaking sense.
