Mafia Discussion Thread

I remember people were threatening to leave the forums (some did) and getting in a big fuss over the removal of a few bad YPPY games, it was hilarious. I think the system we have now with a few good mafia games works fine. And who knows, we might get more mafia games running at once in the future.

That is all.

Honestly, I wouldn't advocate having too many Mafia games on PB at once - Werewolf plus 1 other one, max. (Heck, do we even need one more at this point?) The reason is because, at their core, they're all really the same - same basic roles, same basic premise, same needless complication.

You know, the usual. Kill off the smart players and game hosts night 1 because they're always wolves and the town loves gambler's fallacy. (That's the big word Zyflair used, right?)

I actually like the idea of items next time around, or even roles that circulate around. (Same idea.) It might shake things up a bit. Someone who was once your seer might not be your seer two nights from now.
Not sure how that would be implemented without driving everyone insane, but I love it regardless.

A few things I'd like to see implemented for Mafia is a poisoner, another person who distracts, and a spy. Poisoners basically poison someone, who dies the next night or a few nights after. You know what spies and people who distract do. Day killers are always fun too.

There's actually a cool theme on PO Mafia called Armies/Rotom. Everyone starts out as a Denizen or Rotom, and then the Denizens are transformed into a new role by the bosses of four different teams, and then the four teams fight to win. In Rotom, you transform yourself into a forme and each forme has a different power. Then the formes fight to the death, until one team remains.

I don't know, some of these ideas might seem stupid, but I love playing Armies on the Mafia Channel.

It's a term, you fool, and it's not even big.

Have an example:

A joke told among mathematicians demonstrates the nature of the fallacy. When flying on an aircraft, a man decides to always bring a bomb with him. "The chances of an aircraft having a bomb on it are very small," he reasons, "and certainly the chances of having two are almost none!"

While the basis of all mafia games is similar, there is a plethora of different variants that make it possible for Pokebeach given the activity and creativity of the members and mods alike. I think we're fully capable of holding more than 1 mafia game at a time, and due to the possible variations it wouldn't get redundant or boring.

Just because we can handle it, doesn't mean we should. I feel the games would get too unprofessional and messy if we had, say, five different host going in five different directions. Not to mention the wolf sub-forum, how would we get them all their own little block. It's just too complicated.

Max two games at once, one big and one small would be cool. And so that you can't be in both if others want to play, too. :p

I wish there was a +1 button on your post so that I could click it.

I for one would like to see a game of mafia that actually has the mafia in it.Now about the multiple games thing, the smaller game wouldn't really need a wolf sub-forum since the number of mafioso shouldn't be to high.

A small game sounds good, something like 15-20 people per game with 24 hours days and nights. It's enough for Pokebeach to handle, and it's not crazy.

I wouldn't say days that small, I'd say maybe week long days would be good. But I agree with everything else in this post.

I think if there was another werewolf game that 24 hours would be too short but I think that 7 days is too long for new players.I think 3-4 Days would be better.

I think if we're going to have a small amount of players we should have a short day length that way we have a fast paced quick game. When I would play like this days were 24 hours long, but maybe 48 is better, especially with the indecision of the town in recent games.

Yes, I've tried 4 days for each phase and it works out well, when there's only 8-12 people. Small Mafia would be good, maximum I've ever played is 15. You know, so it would be more fast-paced, more welcoming, and satisfying. This also would be so that you wouldn't see some new people messing around and making mistakes in the big ones. The one that's going on is too daunting for me to start out with.

I would love to see the return of Mushroom Mayhem as well, I really enjoyed that game. I think the forums should have more than one Mafia/Werewolf game going on at one time, but I think that there should be a rule that if you are playing one of them, you will not be allowed in the other. This would insure that noone got confused between the two games and that everyone stayed active. I think it would be nice to have one serious game and one spin-off, such as something like the current one and Mushroom Mayhem, and then maybe a Murder game as well. What do you guys think?

Mushroom Mayhem is exactly the same as Werewolf, though Mario was in it. I don't think it's worthy tbh.
Murder's actually slightly different, so Murder> Mushroom Mayhem. But don't see either of them coming back.

Edit: Just completely re-read my first WW game. Man, I was such a noob who should have been slapped. Hard.

It's basically one wolf vs. completely vanilla townies.

Detailed Stuff:
-The wolf(called the murderer) can also choose an accomplice, which doubles the kills for a night.
-The murderer leaves a note for the townies each night.
-The townies elect a dead person to give them a clue about the murder. (called the council of ghosts) It's basically the only hint the townies get.
-There's a stupid poison mechanic.
-No one likes Joeypals
-Guy invented it.
-The murderer rarely wins
