^This exactly! If you watch Disney movies like Snow White, Alice in Wonderland or (dare I even say it) Enchanted, the role of a queen is usually as a really malevolent antagonist where as the roles of princesses are as gentle or kindly protagonists (in some sense anyways). MLP is more of a fairy tale setting in line with that respect.

It is true that Hasbro asked the team to rename her "Princess" Celestia because of the negative connotations that queens (in little-girl world) have.

Celestia is the highest and most ultimate authority in Equestria. There is nopony above her.

(spoilered so I don't annoy people with my theories and because I'm speculating for season finale)

Celestia is an alicorn, meaning she is all powerful. Princess Candance is a pegacorn, because while she has unicorn magic and pegasus wings, she has no where near the powers of celestia.. I think that we need to separate candace from celestia (and luna) until she appears, just so we don't over hype her (or undermine celestia)

Well this is just assuming that episode is the season finale.

I mean, a winged pegasus is a pretty big deal, it's not like they're not gonna notice she has a big freakin' horn and wings... I have faith they will explain what the deal is in the episode.

Come on, bronies. Sign the petition to reclaim our favorite cross-eyed background pony, of which iTunes/Hasbro totally screwed up. For those who don't know, in the "remastered" version of The Last Roundup, found on iTunes, the producers changed her voice to sound more like a filly, and removed any and all mentioning of her name.

While I don't agree with how most of the fanbase reacted to Derpy's changes (with rage, anger, and spam), I won't pretend that this did not upset me. The voice change is fine, IMO. But getting rid of 1) her name, 2) her derp eyes, does not settle well with me.

The thing I have a problem with is the people who though Derpy was there to make fun of handicapped people or something...

That was just ridiculous and it's a shame this whole thing spiraled out of control like this...

I haven't posted here since forever.

Though I haven't heard anything about Derpy being changed and all, (I'm behind the times =P) I admit it's just not fair. She's totally awesome, and loved by many people. Like me. :3

Finally Hasbro did something right. Not to burst everypony's bubble, but Derpy's a waste of a character. I'll admit that the minute-and-a-half or so during "The Final Roundup" where she appeared was pretty funny, but anyone who thinks she's a good character because of that alone has to get a reality check. I feel that it was a mistake even giving her a line because she doesn't play any significant role in the general storylines of the episodes (if she even made an appearance at all outside of "The Last Roundup," because I don't recall seeing anything of her whatsoever before that actual episode). My point is this: stop whining over something that isn't going to change. I think Hasbro made a good call since this small incident was likely to cause some sort of backlash from the get-go.

I am not mad, just surprised. Everybody likes Derpy. But, hey, not my decision.

Derpy has made lots of appearances outside of The Last Roundup, haven't you been watching? :x

The reason Derpy is significant as a character is because we as a fandom basically created her, and they put it in the show. To have it officially recognized within the show's canon is huge, and that _is_ a big deal. Had no one pointed out the error in the first episode, that part of The Last Roundup never would have existed. As a background pony, it's possible she would have appeared again, but certainly not intentionally, the way she is now, and definitely without the crossed eyes.

The whole reason people are upset over this change is because somebody didn't bother to do research into what 'derp' means, made some assumptions, and caused a huge ruckus. People have already pointed out characters in numerous other cartoons that are "derpy" in their own ways and have gone unchecked since their inception. There's no reason Derpy should be any different.

Not like I'm gonna be crushed and never watch MLP again, I just think that maybe she should be given a chance. To be on the show again, and have another role.

I don't think any of us feel like we can never watch the show again. We're just... disappointed that Hasbro went in this direction.

1. Derpy has been in the show since S1E1
2. She's completely fan-based, so it was a huge deal for the fanon version of a pony to actually be officially recognized
3. Derpy is awesome

I rest my case. I think that people are overreacting more than a little bit, but saying that she's a "waste of a character" is going more than a little too far. To say that, you're discrediting the opinions of literally thousands of fans and IMO that's not something you should say.
