RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Hi, I just kinda want to know if I'll ever see feebas in a battle soon....
Calum caught one didn't he?

Well, thats all i've got to say.

Oh, and the story so far is great! I honestly can't wait for the next chapters:)

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Feebas is coming soon, don't worry. I'm waiting till the time is right ;)

As for the next chapter, wifi PBR fights took over this evening, but I'll be onto finishing it ASAP. Which means tomorrow evening hopefully... :p

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Well take your time! I forgot you were big into wifi:p Hope you win/won :p. Anyway cant wait!

Oh and as for what i think that thing is I have absolutley no idea, I'm sure its a completely obvious clue that I'm overlooking but I have no idea. I'm not exactly a detective:p Cant wait!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

...

Wow... it wasn't THAT well hidden. If you know anything about me from looking at my sig/user title and such, it would be obvious. I gave a small hint to Matt here before, but he clearly didn't get it. I'll now even put in bold the keyword. Here it is:

Chapter 11 said:
“A disaster is about the strike in these mountains, and your trainer is the only one who can help… I sense a great power here, one that I’ve never felt before. He MUST be the one… please, we need him now!”

Now, think about it a second. It's clearly not a human if you read the rest of the discussion right. So it's a pokemon. Now, what pokemon is a disaster warner? Remember we're in the mountains here... it should be obvious by now. So, without further ado, let's begin the next chapter!

Chapter 12 – Preventing the Catastrophe

And so it begins… one species claims to be superior to all those around it, and attempts to eliminate them to prove it. The savage nature of living beings is ever-present in society as well. Ethnic groups are forever trying to claim that their way is the only way, and fight to the death to prove it… but what for? These deaths prove nothing, except that man’s lust for absolute dominance will lead to its demise eventually…

When will we learn that such barbarian ways will lead to nothing but our own defeat? Maybe we never will. One such horror may be about to unfold before us…can it be stopped before it is too late?

“Master, please wake up.”

No response.

“Master, PLEASE wake up… this is important.”

Still no response. Sighing softly, Gardevoir looked at Staravia, who she had called from his poke ball a couple of minutes earlier. She nodded in his direction, signalling for him to give a shrill cry as a wake-up call to the trainers. Startled by the cry of the small bird, Calum woke up suddenly, sitting up as he did so. He looked around quickly to see what had caused the noise. He found Staravia looking smugly up at him, most satisfied at the task he was given. Ryan had also been rudely awakened by his pokemon, and stared at it with fury all over his face.

“WHY did you do THAT Staravia!” he shouted angrily. “Do you have ANY idea what time it is?! I’m TRYING to get some sleep here!” Staravia chirped in glee as Gardevoir took over.

“I’m sorry to both of you, but… we have a visitor here. He needs to speak with you urgently master.”

Both Ryan and Calum were stunned by this, but for different reasons. Ryan spoke first.

“Gardevoir… you can TALK to us? How… I don’t understand!”

Seeing Ryan’s bewilderment at Gardevoir’s ability, Calum answered the question. “She’s psychic Ryan… she can communicate with her powers. She doesn’t actually TALK; she suggests things in your mind. Actually, that sounds more confusing… just call it talking for now.” He paused for a moment. “Now, Gardevoir, you say we have a visitor? Care to show him to us?”

Responding to this statement, a white panther-like creature appeared before Calum and Ryan. He was a shade less than four foot tall, with a large white mane around his neck. His eyes were a piercing red colour, striking fear into those who faced them for more than a few seconds. All of his other features were as black as the night sky. Four sharp claws on each foot (three in front and one behind), a long bladed tail, and a large elliptical spot above his face. Even his entire face was completely black. From the right side of his face protruded a crescent moon-shaped horn. This horn was shimmering faintly in response to some strange energy… could it be the energy of the pendant?

Calum gasped in awe as the creature revealed itself. Fate seemed to have conspired to bring yet another of his favourite pokemon before him… speaking faintly, he addressed the guest.

“You’re an Absol… what are you doing here? You’re only meant to appear in front of people to warn them about some kind of disaster… what is going on?”

Using the abilities of Gardevoir, Absol communicated with the two shocked trainers. “Calum… some heartless humans are terrorizing the town up ahead for some reason. They’re trying to find out information from the people there, and nobody is giving them anything. I foresaw a terrible tragedy befalling the people of the town a couple of nights ago. The humans have lost patience, and are going to create a gigantic explosion in the centre of the town as punishment! They’re going to kill their own kind for not getting what they want… and I can’t let that happen. But I know that by myself I can do nothing to prevent it. However… I sense a great energy emanating from you. You could be the chosen one in the legend these pathetic people are trying to find out about, and now you are needed to help these people!”

He paused for a moment, closing his eyes as he did so. Clearly the thoughts going through his head were causing him a lot of grief. When he opened his eyes again, the sadness was all too apparent to Calum. “I don’t normally ask for the help of a human, but… I’m powerless to stop this on my own. If this town is decimated, the legend will be lost, and there’s no hope for the world. Your friend here told me that you are the keeper of some kind of pendant – can I see it? It might confirm my suspicions about you…”

Upon hearing this, Calum instinctively called Eevee out from his poke ball. Standing in front of Absol, he simply stared at the magnificent creature, asphyxiated by fear. Absol stared placidly at the pendant around Eevee's neck. Suddenly, both Absol's horn and Eevee’s pendant began to shine in a terrifying black shade… the shine only heightened the darkness of Absol's horn, but the pendant was usually a mix of colours. Everyone in the cave looked at it in horror, wondering just what Absol had done to it to make it glow such a horrifying shade… luckily, it was only temporary. Both Absol and Eevee returned to normal before long, much to the relief of Calum and Ryan.

Absol’s eyes opened once again, but this time a look of shock could be seen in them. “So… that IS the Void Pendant! That explains the source of the energy I was drawn to… you are the one of legend, there is no doubt. I will take you to the village now, hurry!”

Absol ran off into the mountains, quickly chased by Calum and Ryan, who had called their pokemon back hastily to catch up. Neither really knew what was going on, except that someone was trying to get information about the pendant. Knowing that their next destination was in danger, they could do nothing but hope that they got to the town in time…

As always though, things weren’t that easy. Absol had lead Calum and Ryan to the middle of a valley in the middle of the mountains. Huge rocky outcrops surrounded the area, eclipsing the rising sun in the distance. As the trio passed through this valley, a booming voice greeted them.

“So, we meet again Calum! And it appears that you’ve brought a rare friend along as well… excellent! I’ll destroy you this time and get back in my boss’s good books! I’m sure she’ll be most pleased when I am the one to hand her the Void Pendant!”

Standing at the other side of the valley was Donald. His uniform was still the same as before, except for the charcoal coloured coat worn on top of the blazer. Anger was written all over his expression; he was out for revenge, and nothing was going to stop him. Calum glared in his direction once he had noticed whom it was.

“So… back for more punishment are you?” he asked, a touch of malice in his voice. “You couldn’t win before… what makes you think you can now?”

Donald stamped his foot on the ground. “Well, aren’t YOU the cocky one?! See, I got a LOT of hassle for coming back empty-handed last time… so I’ve trained exceptionally hard to come back and flatten you! And this time… you can’t win!”

Ryan stepped forward. “Oh REALLY?” he shouted, his voice dripping with sarcasm. “All the training in the WORLD couldn’t help you… and here I am to prove it! Vulpix, let’s go!”

The six-tailed fox appeared from her poke ball, taking a moment to check her surroundings. When she spotted Donald, she gave a low growl of displeasure. She remembered who he was, and was ready to take him down.

Donald laughed at the pokemon sent out, however. “Ha! You SERIOUSLY think that that little weakling can stand a CHANCE against the new me? Grovyle, take it down!”

Donald threw a forest-coloured poke ball, sending out a green lizard pokemon with eaves on its forearms and head. It sneered at Vulpix, ready to take it on.

“Ok, let’s start this off! Grovyle, Quick Attack!”

The lizard shot off towards Vulpix at breakneck speed. Knowing time was short, Ryan reacted quickly, calling for Imprison to be used. Since Vulpix knew Quick Attack as well, her eyes shone a pinkish purple colour, causing Grovyle to slow down to a crawl. All Vulpix had to do is sidestep to avoid the much slower charge.

Ryan punched the air in delight. “Awesome work Vulpix! Now, let’s make it suffer even more; Will-O-Wisp!”

Vulpix’s six tails spread out like a fan behind it. With the same glint in her eyes as before, she opened her mouth to fire a stream of whitish-blue flames towards the slow-moving Grovyle, who couldn’t get out of the way quick enough to evade them. It fell to the floor, singed from head to toe by the fire. Aggravated by this, Donald was quick to issue another command.

“Grovyle, what ARE you doing!? You’re showing me up here! Take that soft toy down NOW! Use Crunch!”

Despite suffering from a burn, Grovyle managed to get up and run over to Vulpix, who was cooling down after using her last attack. The lizard managed to bite into Vulpix’s body savagely with sharp fangs, causing her to yelp in pain. Ryan was worried that, it held on for too long, Vulpix could be seriously hurt. That’s when an idea came to him.

“Vulpix, it HAS to stay next to you if it’s going to hurt you! Make it suffer for this by using Fire Spin!”

Luckily for Vulpix, her mouth was still available to shoot fire from. She managed to gather herself for long enough to launch a vortex of flames to surround herself and Grovyle with. It was Grovyle that was beginning to show signs of weakness now – unable to take the heat, it had to let go of Vulpix and get away from the cyclone of fire created by the fox. Surrounded by fire, Vulpix shone with an intense red light… her Flash Fire must have triggered from her own flames! Seeing this, Ryan decided to see just how far his pokemon’s heritage had gone before he caught it.

“Vulpix, see if you can use Extrasensory to send the Fire Spin into Grovyle once and for all!”

Fuelled by the power of the flames, Vulpix stood with her tails fanned out once again. Eyes aglow, she directed her devastating tornado of flames right into the injured Grovyle, who was in no condition to dodge them. With all of its body in flames, there was no option for Donald but to call his lizard back before it was torched beyond repair. Scowling at Ryan, he got ready to send out his next pokemon.

“You… you’re always messing with our plans, aren’t you? Don’t you realise that we’re doing this to HELP the world become a better place? This world is too full of the pollutions of mankind… we’re destroying the natural world around us! Team Leafre will rid this suffering world of those who aim to destroy it, and replace them with a natural world of TRUE beauty and peace! Don’t you WANT something like that?”

Ryan looked blankly at Donald, unsure what to make of his speech. Seeing his blank expression, Donald burst out in fury once again.

“Ugh, you just don’t UNDERSTAND! You can’t see the beauty of our ideals… so I’ll have to beat it into you! Torterra, go!”

From the forest poke ball that Donald threw came an enormous turtle pokemon, larger than ANYTHING Calum and Ryan had ever seen. It was so large that a tree was growing on its back. Its shell was decorated in brown and green shapes, representing continents in the world. Protruding from this shell was four massive, stout legs that made the ground creak under the weight they bore. Its mouth housed some impressive fangs… it was clear that this pokemon was a brutal force to be reckoned with. Vulpix just stared at it in fear, not knowing what to do in the face of such an awe-inspiring pokemon. Donald saw this, and was quick to take advantage.

“Torterra, Earthquake! Show that puny fox REAL pain!”

Rearing up on its hind legs, the humongous turtle let out a roar as it slammed down into the ground, causing everyone except Donald to fall to their feet. Vulpix couldn’t get back up after taking such a devastating move, and just lay crumpled on the floor. Ryan called it back, wondering just what he had that could take on something so huge.

Donald laughed at Ryan, as the boy stood rooted to the spot. “It’s no use boy! The weak pokemon you once knew is gone… and NOTHING you could EVER have will stop him now!”

Ryan stared at the ground, lost in his despair. “Maybe he’s right, maybe there IS nothing I can do…” sighing, he looked at Torterra. “Staravia is good on Grass, but I don’t think it could handle something like that… ok, there’s only one chance for me. Let’s go!”

Ryan threw his next poke ball onto the field in front of Torterra. But which pokemon was he sending out?

Hmm... it's a little shorter that I would have liked, but that just means I'll be able to lengthen the next one a little. Better to leave the battle at a cliffhanger anyhow ;)

So... you know what the pokemon was now, and you know why he called our heroes to the town... is there even a question associated with Absol to ask now? Hmm... will it intervene in the battle if it gets too much for Ryan? And is it even POSSIBLE to stop Torterra with what he has to choose from?

I quite like the ending of this chapter myself. It's a real hanging in the balance type of ending - perfect to whet people's appetites ;)

Opinions, anyone? The chapter is a little shorter than I would have originally liked, but that's what wifi fights all day does :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

wooo nice chapter! Absol was so obvious I'm suprised i didnt see it!:p!!!:p!!!!:p!!!!:p!!!! Anyway as for the cliffhanger since, knowing you, It's probably not going to be marill ryan is sending out is it? Raichu maybe but thats not much of a cliff hanger. It might be something you havnt told us about? Well we will have to see! Cant wait for the next one, man your way ahead of me i have to get going! We dont want our little suprise to fall through now do we. I better get cookin!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Oh, it was an absol? I only figured it out when you highlighted disaster and said the voice wasn't human. :)

And as for the pokemon Ryan would use.....Ok, this is a wild guess.
It was mentioned earlier that he felt an urge to catch a Phanphy earlier....maybe that's what he'll send out? Well....that's what's on my mind....
Or maybe Marill evolved already?

That's all I can think of.....so now I really can't wait to see the rest of the story!!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Well, unfortunately wait you must... I haven't had the time at all to start up on the next chapter yet >_<

I'll see what I can do, maybe within the week... depends on my classes and job hunting...

Anyways, let Staravia kick some Torterra behind!:D Sounds like a interesting battle between Calum and Donald...!:D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Except it's Ryan vs Donald :p

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Okies... it's been tough to do this chapter, but here it comes. Expect something... well, just something will do. I reckon that this chapter should provide a couple of nice moments within it, so without further ado let us begin!

Chapter 13 – The Prophecy Unfolds…

“Marill, let’s go…”

Ryan threw his poke ball in front of Torterra, a little unconvincingly. He knew that there was very little chance that his little mouse would win, but he didn’t know what else to do… he knew that Staravia would be crushed in a second by the massive turtle, and he reckoned that his aquatic mouse would stand more of a chance. Quite how he figured that though was a mystery, even to Ryan himself.

Donald simply stared blankly at Ryan. “What are you doing sending THAT thing out? Don’t you know it’ll be crushed instantly?” Upon seeing Ryan’s blank expression, he simply laughed menacingly. “Fine, if that’s the way you want to be, I’ll simply have to destroy that pokemon for you! Torterra, Body Slam!”

Torterra began to lumber over towards Marill, hauling its humungous weight across the battlefield. Marill just stared at Ryan for something to do… Ryan was quick enough to issue a command.

“Marill, Rollout! Get out of the way of Torterra!”

Marill curled up into a ball and rolled away from the incoming mass that was heading towards it. The nimble mouse was far too quick for Torterra to keep up with. Seeing this, Donald decided to revert to more standard measures.

“Torterra, chase it down with Seed Bomb!”

The tree on the gigantic turtle’s back lit up slightly, as it created a large number of tiny explosive shells. Torterra then launched these towards the rolling Marill, letting out a roar as it did so. Hundreds of tiny potholes appeared in the ground as the seeds exploded just behind the little mouse, who was rolling to save its life. When the seeds finally stopped coming, Marill stopped. He was unable to keep rolling on such a rough terrain – it could hardly move around without falling into the holes created by Torterra’s attack! Seeing this, Torterra got ready to launch more seeds towards Marill… Ryan had to act fast.

“Marill, come on, I KNOW you can do better than this! There’s massive potential within you… a huge power like you’ve never felt before – you need to tap into that just now! Use Aqua Jet!”

Marill shot towards Torterra in a flash, propelled forwards by a large surge of water. It was far too quick for the unmoving turtle, which was struck cleanly by the attack. It may as well not have been though – it didn’t even flinch as the attack landed! It just laughed at Marill’s attempted assault, whilst the little mouse bounced clean off of his shell. Hearing the taunt, the little mouse became angered, and he launched himself at the turtle again. This progressed for a couple of minutes, with each attack rising in power. Soon enough, Torterra was wincing rather than laughing at the attacks – it was starting to be hurt a little by the onslaught it was taking. Marill wouldn’t stop his endless attacking however, as rage had taken over. Soon enough, the little mouse was glowing in the usual white light… and evolving! Consumed by his anger, Marill had amassed so much energy that it was able to evolve just like that! Everyone was completely stunned by this feat, even Marill himself. He sharply ground to a halt, wondering what had happened.

“Marill… how did you evolve like that? That was insane… but now I have an Azumarill! How are you feeling buddy?”

Azumarill turned to face Ryan, a little shell-shocked about evolving so abruptly. However, when he realised what had happened, he held his hand up to Ryan with a jubilant expression on his face. Torterra wasn’t so pleased though. Clearly irritated from the barrage of rapid attacks Azumarill had delivered, he decided to go for an all-out finish, which was promptly backed up by Donald.

“Yeah, that’s right Torterra, you know what to do! Wood Hammer! Pound that stupid, weak rabbit into the ground!”

Torterra wasn’t even listening to the commands that Donald gave any more though – it simply acted out of anger. Turning round to face the turtle, Azumarill tentatively waited for instructions.

“Ok Azumarill, show it what you can do! Ice Beam, let’s go!”

The large rabbit closed his eyes, and then fired a large white beam of freezing energy towards the incoming Torterra. Unable to do anything with himself except charge straight forward, the colossal pokemon was blasted right in the mouth by the frigid blast. Gaping in shock, it came sliding to a halt, frozen solid! Azumarill jumped in circles in front of the humongous block in front of it, clearly happy to see the opponent in a gigantic ice cube. Ryan made sure that it didn’t stay unfocused for long though.

“Azumarill, it’ll thaw out if you leave it like that! Focus again… do so by using Focus Punch to end this match!”

Coming back down to earth by the command, Azumarill closed his eyes and gathered all the energy it could muster. The huge internal power burning within it activated as it attacked the hapless Torterra, causing the ice to smash and Torterra to be sent hurtling into the nearby mountains at an incredible rate! There was no getting back after that; David had once again beaten Goliath in the pokemon world. Torterra grunted as it managed to free himself from the mountain, collapsing to the ground with an incredible thud. Azumarill jumped for joy again, clearly happy to see the opponent grounded once and for all.

“You… why do you always beat us!?” cried Donald as he called his strongest pokemon back.

“That’s easy,” Ryan taunted. “You guys just suck! Even with as huge a pokemon as Torterra, you still couldn’t win. Give up already!”

Donald laughed, clearly knowing something that Ryan and Calum didn’t. “It’s fine… this time. I’ve surely bought all the time I needed to for the townspeople to confess all they know about the pendant, so now they can say goodbye to their town! You’re too late this time, HEROS! HAHAHAHA!”

Having finished his little maniacal speech, Donald hurled a Smoke Ball onto the hole-infested battle zone, allowing him to escape unharmed. Once the smoke cleared, Absol stood in front of Calum once again. Gardevoir let herself out of her poke ball to interpret for the trainers.

“If what that man said is true, we HAVE to get to the town quickly!” He looked gravely concerned for the well being of Rowan Town. “I can show Gardevoir in her mind exactly where the town is – we can teleport there in a couple of minutes. We must hurry!”

With this said, Gardevoir closed her eyes and focused on the pokemon centre of Rowan Town. A couple of seconds later, Calum and Ryan found themselves in the middle of a small town, completely enclosed by trees. Every street was barren of people, except those from Team Leafre. Quickly gauging how many opponents were around, Calum and Ryan charged towards the nearest members of the team, demanding answers.

“Where are you keeping the townspeople?! Answer us now, or you WILL suffer for it!”

The two grunts just stared at Calum, unsure if they should be worried or not. The decided not as they replied, “what, you think you can beat the answer out of us? Playing hero won’t work kid… Cherubi, come on out!”

Both grunts sent out cherry pokemon simultaneously, stimulating a response from Calum.

“Growlithe, take these guys… Ember!”

Throwing the poke ball out in front of the grunts, Calum’s faithful puppy pokemon appeared, showering the cherries and flames as it did so! It was easy to see why these were grunts – their pokemon fainted after just that. Seeing this, they looked at each other quickly, and then ran off down the road!

“Hey, get back here!” Calum shouted, angry for the lack of competition in their pokemon as much as not getting any answers. “Bleah, they were weak anyhow… let’s keep looking! Gardevoir, care to assist our search at all?”

Complying without saying anything, Gardevoir employed her abilities in order to search for a large number of people in one place. After a minute, she spoke.

“They’re northeast of here, in a large building with several Team Leafre members… it appears to be the gym of the town.”

Ryan just looked at Gardevoir blankly. “You can find ALL that out JUST by looking for people’s emotions?” Gardevoir nodded, prompting Ryan to give an even stranger look. “Weird… wish I could do that though…”

“Well, you can’t,” Calum said, cutting Ryan off before he said anything else that was pointless. “Come on, we have a town to save!”

Having said this, the group made their way towards the gym, easily crushing everyone in their path. Absol assisted in the battles wherever possible, showing impressive slashing attacks of a variety of types. “Remind me never to get on his bad side,” said Ryan as the frenzy of attacks continued. It didn’t take long to punch through the fragile grunts blocking the path to the gym, since none of them could really fight… what the party encountered in the gym would change all that though.

“Release the towns folk at once!” roared Calum as Azumarill punched the doors down. “I’m warning you – release them now or we’ll take them by force!”

“Ha! Is THAT the best threat you can come up with? I expected more from Leafre’s top enemy… guess not EVERY opponent can be good, though. Your friend Jamie though… he wasn’t too bad. But he was FAR too weak to take me down… and you look exactly the same.”

A tall woman dressed in an extremely dark green skirt and blouse came forward. Her attire bore the marks of Team Leafre, but also of heightened ranking. Seeing the upgraded emblem, Calum looked on with caution.

“So… you’re one of Leafre’s admins? I suppose you’ll be a proper challenge then… bring it on!”

The woman laughed. “You’re pretty confident for someone who is about to lose it all! But that’s what makes it so fun… to think that I, Laura, am about to take down Leafre enemy number one… AND obtain that pendant! Go Altaria!”

For the first time, someone from Team Leafre had used a non-grass pokemon. The pokemon that WAS sent out was a large blue humming bird with huge, fluffy wings that appeared to be made of cotton… or clouds. It was gently humming a song with a dark edge to it…

“Ok, time to actually USE this pokemon now! Feebas, let’s go!”

The raggedy brown fish pokemon emerged onto the field, flopping hopelessly all over the place. Upon seeing this, Laura just stared at Calum as if he was stupid.

“Ok, you DO realise that I’m not as weak as the pathetic grunts my organization seems to employ, right? It’s INSULTING for you to send out something so WEAK against me! Not to mention ugly…”

Upon hearing those dreaded words, Feebas suddenly grew angry. Flopping around manically on the spot, the only reaction it got was more laughter. This only made it angrier… until Calum’s command calmed it down somewhat.

“Don’t listen to her, Feebas! Use Rain Dance and show your beauty!”

The ugly fish became somewhat more rhythmatic about the way it flopped on the floor, flopping in patterns across the floor. The result of this odd motion was that a gigantic storm cloud brewed in the middle of the gym! One small peal of thunder followed, before a torrential downpour erupted from the dark grey cloud above. The rain hit Feebas’s scales, causing them to shimmer in a soft, pinkish shade. Not wanting to see what would happen to the fish if left alone, Laura made her first move.

“Altaria, take it down! Dragon Claw!”

“Dragon Claw? But it’s a bird!” Ryan cried, not knowing of the humming bird’s second type. “How can it use a dragon attack?”

“It’s half dragon Ryan…” Calum said, slightly embarrassed by the young boy’s lack of knowledge. In amongst the confusion, Altaria had already flown across to Feebas, and was about to rake it using its talons. However, as it did so, an intense pink light burst forth out of Feebas! The light blinded everyone, causing them to miss the magnificent transformation that was taking place.

The small ugly fish was transforming into the most elegant yellow snakelike creature you could ever lay your eyes on. She had huge red eyebrows, covering captivating eyes that could calm any anger with just a single look. At the base of her body, a tail of shimmering scales resided, catching the sunlight with the most elegant charm one could imagine. Upon completing the transformation, she let out a cry that made everyone in the room stop and stare in awe at the majesty of the creature that was now in front of them.

“Oh yes! I knew those secret beauty poffins would do you a lot of good… Milotic! Let’s show this loser just how badly her weakness can be exploited! Ice Beam, hit it!”

Milotic opened her delicate mouth slightly, launching a potent beam of ultra-cold energy at Altaria. The bird was stunned by the sudden evolution, causing it to reel away from Milotic as she was evolving. Now though, she could do nothing to evade such a rapid burst of energy. Frozen solid within a second, she crashed to the floor and couldn’t move. Laura called her back, fury in her eyes.

“How DARE you! Such a powerful pokemon… I guess I’d better up my game now! Manectric, take this snake down!”

A yellow and blue dog like pokemon burst forth onto the battlefield. Rain was still heavily falling over the field… and the clouds above crackled with static electricity upon the arrival of the thunder pokemon.

“Milotic, don’t give it a chance to start! Use Water Pulse!”

Using the power of the rain, Milotic sent out a pulsing wave through the downpour, heading straight for Manectric.

“Manectric, Protect! Then, Thunder!”

Manectric adopted a defensive pose, brushing the energy wave aside in a flash of blue light. Hardly even taking time to react, it howled up to the clouds above. Before long, a colossal lightning bolt struck Milotic right in the centre of her body! She howled in pain as the effective electrical surge travelled all through her wet body, causing the most intense shock she had ever felt. She wasn’t beaten though… it would take more than that to take such a determined pokemon down.

“Milotic! Are you ok?” Calum inquired, greatly concerned for the well being of his pokemon. Cringing from the impact of the attack, Milotic forced a nod, but Calum wasn’t convinced. “It’s ok, you’ve done well for me… come back for now!”

As he returned the water pokemon, the cloud above the field dissipated. Now that the rain had stopped, Calum could use his next pokemon without hassle. “Growlithe, let’s go!” His loyal puppy came out onto the waterlogged battleground separating him and Manectric. Seeing so much water around him, he shot Calum a quizzical look, as if to ask why he had been sent out.

“Don’t worry, I have an idea,” he assured his pokemon, “Just go for it – Flamethrower!”

Mustering up all of the fire energy it could, Growlithe let loose a large, continuous stream of fire that passed over everything in a blaze of destruction. Manectric ran past it for a short time, but was eventually consumed within the flames as Growlithe torched all that he could see.

“Manectric, no! You have a strong move like that too! Use Thunderbolt!”

Trying to stand its ground, Manectric fired a powerful jolt of electricity at Growlithe. Calum had other ideas though.

“Agility! Show him true speed of attack…”

Obeying the command instantly, Growlithe cancelled his fiery breath attack and darted away from the incoming electrical blast, ensuring his survival in the battle.

“Now, end this! Overheat!”

Charging straight towards Manectric, Growlithe gathered every last ounce of fiery energy it had left, covering itself in a blazing cloak of white-hot flames. Manectric was able to avoid the puppy himself, but far from able to avoid the heat of the attack. Howling in pain, he crumpled to the floor. However, Growlithe very quickly followed him – all of his energy had been sapped, and now the only place left for him was his poke ball.

“UGH, Manectric that was useless!” screamed Laura, who was now very irritated at Calum and his pokemon. “Beaten by a Growlithe… well, this next one won’t be defeated NEARLY so easily! Go Shiftry!

A brown forest pokemon with two large hand fans made from leaves appeared. It had a somewhat ninja-like look about it… Calum was considering who to use in the battle, when all of a sudden…

“I’ll take this one…”

OO, the DRAMA! Surely it's clear enough THIS time what will happen in the next one... I don't think I can fool you guys again so easily :p. Marill took on Torterra! And evolved to win the day! Did you see that one coming at all? :p

So... pretty titanic struggle for the safety of the town here! Who will win? Find out... next time! :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Woo Milotic and Azumaril nice chapter! I have to say I didn't expect marill!:p I like how you evolved feebas too, those secret beutey poffins fit in perfectly great job! I was going to say it would be a little akward if feebas just evolved like that, first battle. Great chapter! I'll have to update that ub of yours:p!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

yay, Azumarril! And feebas should've taken down that altaria without evolving, that would really kick some behind!

Oooooh, what is a shiftry doing there anyways...?:p

keep it up!:D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

That was great!

I've been witing for this chapter for a long time!

Oh, and I did guess that Marill evolved, right?

And I finally get to see Feebas:)

Anyway, you did an excellent job!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

You like this one then? I tried to get a good chapter done, but at the same time convey the urgency of the task at hand... the town may well have been blown up if they didn't get there soon! D:

So, I'm guessing it's obvious this time who wants to battle Shiftry... but what type of attacks is it going to use? And who will win overall? Will the pendant once again have a say in the outcome of the battle?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see... but post any opinions you have here! :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Of course I liked it.....why do you think I said it was great?:)

I know who's going to battle Shiftry now....but I have no clue as to what
attack it's gonna use.

I'm thinking that the pendant will have something to do with the outcome, though
since Shiftry IS a dark-type...

Anyway, I'll be waiting for the next one!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Interesting. You say the pendant will have a say in the outcome, but you know who will fight Shiftry... since I know who you're thinking of, something doesn't add up there :p. The pendant isn't on him... ack well.

Time for the next installment of the novel to be! Hope you like it :D

Chapter 14 – Shaping Destiny

“You know what I am capable of, yes?”

“Of course I do… I only used you ALL the time on my games – I know exactly what you should be capable of!”

“Then let’s do this…”

Absol had taken the field, knowing that his time to battle had finally arrived. He stared at Shiftry placidly, almost trying to psych it out. Shiftry was having none of that though – without even waiting for Laura to speak, he started firing small (but solid) seeds right at Absol! Of course, Absol saw this coming, and effortlessly outran the barrage of attacks. Calum saw a chance to use this to his advantage.

“Absol, use Swords Dance around the Bullet Seed attack! Then, follow it up with Quick Attack!”

The slender pokemon stopped running around Shiftry, instead focusing itself in a small place. He began a frantic dance around the incoming fire, leaving Shiftry completely unable to find his target properly. Absol had now become a huge source of offensive power, which he used to devastating effect. He charged straight at Shiftry, leaving a blurry line of copies behind him! Shiftry was knocked quite far back from the attack – he was hurt, but not too severely. He WAS angered however… as was Laura.

“What is this, some kind of cruel joke? You are NOT losing to some petty CAT, Shiftry… show it! Leaf Storm!”

“What!? Absol, look out!”

Shiftry created an enormous windstorm using the fans on its hands. Absol had to crouch low to the ground to avoid being blown away… leaving him with no opportunity to escape the onslaught he was about to face. The windstorm created was so fierce, it began to remove the leaves on Shiftry’s hands along with it! They didn’t take long to grow back… but since they were fan leaves, they were extremely sharp. This vicious weaponry savagely tore at Absol, causing it to cry in anguish as it fell to the floor! However, the shock of the attack took its toll on Shiftry as well; it fell to its knees in exhaustion upon discontinuing the assault.

“No, Absol! Are you ok? Do something please…”

Absol clawed his way back onto his feet, clearly in some discomfort after the ferocity of Shiftry’s move. However, it was plenty capable of battling on, despite a couple of obvious wounds where the knifelike leaves had sliced through his body. Calum smiled as he saw the determination in the cat’s eyes – he was not about to give up for what he was fighting for. Feeling the same, he gave one last, all-out command.

“Absol, go for the finisher! X-Scissor; take him down!”

“Shiftry, don’t just stand there gawping at Absol like an idiot! Use YOUR X-Scissor as well!”

Both pokemon ran full-throttle towards each other, each one preparing to take down the other. Absol made a huge lunge towards Shiftry from a few feet away, crossing his front paws in an X shape as he brought his claws down into Shiftry. Shiftry had also made a lunging motion, crossing his fans into the same shape to slice into Absol. The two pokemon made contact in midair; several green and red scratch lines could be seen from the two making contact with each other! Both landed on the opposite side of the battlefield after the clash, where they stood motionless for about two minutes. Then, all of a sudden, they both collapsed at the same time! It seemed that the highly effective attack type was too much for both pokemon, as they lay on the ground without any kind of movement whatsoever! Laura called Shiftry back into its poke ball, in a complete rage now that three of her pokemon had been knocked out. Absol, on the other hand, didn’t HAVE a poke ball to go back to!

“Absol… I’m sorry…”

“You did all you had to master; this isn’t your fault.”

Gardevoir had released herself from her poke ball when she felt Absol go down. Seeing the state her friend was in, she made a motion over to him to check on his condition.

“He’s ok… for now. I’ll go and take him to the nearest pokemon centre to get healed up – you can win this without me! I believe in you…”

With that, Gardevoir took Absol into her arms and teleported away to a pokemon centre to get him the medical attention he badly needed.

“Hmph, so you’re little friend there couldn’t take the power it was up against then?” Laura sneered, clearly very vexed at the fact that so many of her pokemon had been beaten already. “Well, I still have one more for you! Destroy him Cacturne!”

Laura sent out her final pokemon – a green, spiky scarecrow. Her mouth was slightly disjointed, and didn’t quite open up properly. This only served to make her smile all the more devious and frightening, however.

“Well, as it turns out I only have one more fit pokemon left as well! Eevee, let’s end this!”

Calum’s ever-present brown dog pokemon was sent out. Seeing his opponent, he growled softly, as a warning to the opponent.

“What, don’t like scarecrows Eevee?” Calum laughed as he saw his pokemon’s reaction. “Well, let’s end this one quickly then; Take Down!”

Eevee ran at full speed towards the cactus-like opponent, who simply remained motionless. Taking the hit full on, she was knocked to the floor, but quickly sprang back up as if nothing happened!

“What the… how!”

Calum looked in astonishment as the cactus appeared to be totally unaffected by Eevee’s attack, despite having Adaptability on his side! Laura just laughed as she issued her first command.

“You’ll never beat Cacturne like THAT! Cacturne, use Pin Missile! Incapacitate Eevee, so we can take the pendant from it with ease!”

Cacturne turned around to face Eevee, and then fired lime coloured spines from her outstretched arm! Still reeling from his own attack, Eevee was unable to get out of the way in time, and was struck several times by the needles. Calum had to act fast to keep himself in this match – if Eevee fell, there was no way that Milotic could take on her weakness in her weakened state.

“Eevee, get out of there! Use Quick Attack!”

Managing somehow to stay on his feet, the battered Eevee managed to lunge out of the path of the needles fired by Cacturne. Outpacing the fire with pace alone, he was able to evade the rotating attacks sent by Laura’s relentless pokemon. Calum began to feel the pressure a little. Knowing that he had to come up with something quickly to put Eevee on the attack, he desperately tried to think of SOMETHING that would assist this cause. But nothing he could think of came to mind… until…

“Eevee, Endure! You can take the hits, I KNOW you can! If you endure them, there’s an extremely potent attack you can unleash!”

Cacturne still hadn’t given up launching spines from itself in a never-ending stream at Eevee. Trusting his trainer, Eevee stopped and braced itself for the impact of the attack once again. More and more needles were sprayed into it… but still it stood. It eventually became obvious that both pokemon were tiring of this though. Eevee looked as if it couldn’t take anymore, almost falling to the ground. Before it could do so though, Cacturne stopped her attack – panting slightly, it was clear that she could no longer do that attack. Eevee’s pendant glowed a faint red colour… something was happening to it!

“Ok, I don’t have a CLUE why the pendant is glowing, but it’s not black so that’s a good thing. Eevee! Use Flail!”

In truth, Eevee didn’t actually KNOW the Flail attack. However, the red colour of the pendant intensified at the command given, causing Eevee to rush forwards unexpectedly! Well, unexpectedly to everyone except Cacturne, as it turned out… Cacturne knew that Eevee was very badly injured, and so it readied an attack in response to the charge on the brave little dog!

Cacturne’s arm became enshrouded in a dark aura. When she saw Eevee come close enough to hit, she threw a cheap little Sucker Punch right into the dog’s belly! Eevee tumbled to the floor, crying in pain from the surprisingly quick blow delivered by the scarecrow pokemon. Laura laughed as she saw Eevee fall, knowing that the battle was hers now… or was it?

Reacting to the cheapness of the last attack, as well as the shadowy effects it possessed, the void pendant began to pulsate once again… it forced Eevee to his feet once more. Laura’s laughed was cut brutally short by this fact – she had forgotten about the effects of the attack on Eevee!

“Wait, no! How can this be! Eevee was knocked down for good… impossible!”

Calum stared at Laura with a grim look on his face. “You forgot that this pendant possesses a dark side Laura,” he said morbidly. “Your Cacturne launched a shadowy attack at the pendant, and now it’s about to pay for it. There’s nothing anyone can do now… forgive me.”

Eevee had managed to focus the shadowy aura into a Shadow Ball as Calum was talking. Smashing it with an outstretched paw, the blast shot through Cacturne in less than a second, draining all life from it as it passed. This time, Cacturne fell over, and didn’t get back up.

Laura screamed. “Cacturne, NO!” She ran over to her now deceased pokemon, falling to the floor besides her in tears. “I thought they weren’t serious about this thing… why does Team Leafre want something so dangerous anyways!?”

An old lady with yellow hair and eyes that appeared to be forever closed appeared in front of Laura. “That is something you may never find out… but if you do, I can only hope that it was the answer you were expecting…”

Sobbing at the loss of her pokemon, Laura stood to face Calum, who still had a grim expression on his face. “You… you’re the real deal. I can see why Donald and Luke lost so easily to you two now. But know this – Team Leafre will NOT give up, and you WILL lose to us someday! Watch your back… because we will always be hunting it!”

Upon finishing her speech, Laura fled the gym building, tears still streaming down her face. The yellow-haired woman turned to face Calum as he took back the now fainted Eevee.

“Hmm… you’ve come a long way since my sister Azalea first met you… you look so competent now, so ABLE. It is time for you to learn the final section of the legend… come.”

Before the trio could leave, however, a young male voice came from the crowd.

“Hey, thanks for the help Calum! I’ll be waiting for your challenge when you get back into shape… let’s have a fiery competition, yes?”

Recognizing the voice, Calum chuckled as he walked. “Don’t worry, we will Jamie! You know I’ll come for you soon enough,” he called back as he left the building.

The old lady’s house was almost identical to that of her sisters… as you might expect from such a close trio. As before, Calum and Ryan sat down opposite the woman, with Eevee coming out to listen to the conversation as well.

“Now that you are beginning to harness the power of this pendant, you may be able to find the place of origin, and complete the legend once and for all. So, let I, Ulea, be your guide to the final legacy of the legend…”

“As you know, the Void Pendant’s original resting place lies to the west of here, on Pokemon Island. Close to the centre of this island lies a volcano, said to be the Home of the Void. A temple lies there, containing an altar that is said to open the void when someone puts the pendant there. It is here that you can remove the pendant… but you might have to put it on yourself to maintain the balance. Anyhow… nobody actually knows what now resides in the void – whether it be the man who once wanted all the power in the world, or whether it be some form of deity… maybe even nothing at all – just an empty space of pure nothingness… only time will tell.”

“It is said that when the destined four meet, some form of event will happen with regards to the void itself. What that event is, or who the destined people are, nobody knows. But it may be a safe bet that you two are two of the destined… so maybe in time you’ll find the other two.”

“For now though… the only other thing I can tell you is how to GET to Pokemon Island. You need to Surf across on a powerful pokemon from Palm City, since no boat has ever made it past the shoreline there, and the ocean itself is incredibly vicious. It’s a wonder that your little Eevee even MADE it here… although I suppose he had the power of the pendant to protect him. I hope it protects you as you journey onward…”

Having taken all of this information in, Calum and Ryan looked at each other for a while, before Ulea spoke for one last time. “One more thing… to get to Palm City, travel south from Birchwood… I’m sure your Gardevoir can get you back there easily enough.”

It was at that point that Calum realised that he didn’t have Gardevoir and Absol with him. “Oh! I almost forgot that she went to heal Absol! I need to find them now!”

Ulea stood up to open the door for Calum and Ryan. “I understand. But you should know that they are currently safe. I trust that you will find them soon… may our paths cross again, young trainers.”

Calum darted over to the pokemon centre, with Ryan trying his best to keep up. But were Gardevoir and Absol there?

“So… Calum has managed to take down one of my best people then… as it was expected! Glad to see he’s still sharp as least.”

A young man’s voice could be heard on a video link in Laura’s office. She had managed to make it back to there at least; if for nothing else than to pack her things to quit.

“Yes sir… but he KILLED MY POKEMON! Why do you want this pendant anyways!?”

The man smirked slightly at the outburst. “Well… I know that thing possesses a great deal of power, and I WILL be the one to wield that! Calum is starting to learn a lot about this thing though… I might have to take him out sooner than I had intended to.”

Laura just stared at the video link in shock. “Sir, how can you be willing to go through SO much for sheer power! I thought we were supposed to be creating another world… that’s IT! I’ve lost a pokemon today, and all because of your selfish lust for power! You can count me out from now on… I quit!”

The man laughed amicably at this speech. “Oh, don’t worry my dear; I already had…” He pushed a hidden button under his desk, ending the video link. Less than a second later, the floor underneath Laura had collapsed, revealing a seemingly endless pit underneath her! Needless to say… nobody ever heard from Laura again.

Sitting in his own office, the man quietly thought to himself. “Hmm… looks like I’ll need to up my travels if I’m going to be in the position I should be in when the time comes… mark these words Calum; this time you WON’T win!”

Well... precious few details given away there, hm? At the end at least. I guess this leads to even more questions now! I'll list the ones I can think of... lol

Who on earth was that man in the final section? And why did he do in his own team member, just because she disliked his idea?
Where are Gardevoir and Absol, and will Absol stay with Calum?
What type of Gym Leader is Jamie? (this one has had a clue given in his speech, but... based on my last clue, you guys prolly won't all figure it out :p)
WHY does everyone have it out for Calum? Was he just unlucky at birth or something?
Who exactly ARE the three sisters that told the legend anyhow? I'm sure I've seen names like theirs before... the clue is there for the thinking reader! ;)

Some of this and more... next time! :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

WOW GOOD CHAPTER! I need to catch up! Another life taken by the void pendant! Good chapter very good and mysterious!!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Well, that was another nice chapter!
And I was right! The pendant DID affect
the outcome:)

Too bad about Laura, though....she was starting to be good

I'm pretty sure I know Jamie's type preference:)

Oh, and out of curiosity.... why did you ask:
Who exactly ARE the three sisters that told the legend anyhow? I'm sure I've seen names like theirs before...

Well, I THINK you should have changed it to WHAT are the three sisters....
because.... I think they're Azelf, Uxie and Mesprit in disguise or something.

Their names, plus their description kinda made me think more about them:)

Well, pardon if my theory is completely wrong

Anyway, I'll be waiting for the next chapter!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Glad to hear the opinions people! Speculation is good... :D

You do need to catch up kinda Matt, or at least let me know of what to use in the event to come. You know what I mean, but I need to know, so... yeah, if you don't get too much further for a while, PM me :p

Catty, you were right that the pendant affected the match, but not the battle you were referring to :p. Shiftry's game wasn't affected by the pendant, it was Cacturne's :). Your theory is good to hear! Nice to see someone thinking about things for a bit... if you're right, you get to go "OMG I WAS RIGHT!!!!11!1ONE" or something. If not, well... it's not the end of the world ;)

But you aren't getting anything from ME saying who (or if it turns out to be what :)) they are until the time comes... but you may be on to something there, who knows? :)

Anyone have any theories regarding there whereabouts of Gardevoir and Absol? And does ANYONE have a clue about who the man who did in Laura was? She was getting to be a nice person again too... oh cruel irony! Why must you punish the good guys! D:
