RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Well, yeah it wasn't Shiftry's Match, but at least I got somethinig:)

Oh, right, I'm also guessing that Calum gets Absol, but have no clue as to
where they are yet.

I've got no clue as to who the person who did Laura in is... aside from the fact that
Laura called him her boss.

Well, i'll just have to wait to find out who he is:)

Keep up the good work!!!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Sorry I haven't had a chapter in here for a while, but time has been against me. I'll see if I can get something written up tonight :)

Maybe if I get some food just now, I could be provided with inspiration... hmm... or maybe I just need to clock up more wins with my new pokemon team :)

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Ahh Calum it seems as wi-fi has taken over your life:p Get it in whenever(as long as you get it in sometime), this is getting me a chance to catch up:p Now your only 4 chapters ahead of me!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Whew... I'm finally done with this chapter. Seriously, maybe my life is too ****ed up atm to think straight on these things, but this... took me forever to write -_-. In any case... here it is!

Chapter 15 – Searching the Blaze

“Man where ARE those two!? They HAVE to be here somewhere…”

Calum frantically searched Rowan Town’s pokemon centre for his beloved Gardevoir and their new friend Absol, whom she had taken to the pokemon centre to get urgent medical attention for his wounds. However, despite ten edgy minutes of searching for the pair, they were nowhere to be found! There wasn’t even any trace that the pair had been at the centre… Ryan managed to catch back up to Calum at the entrance to the centre, wondering how the search had gone.

“She’s not here then…” he said, with as much empathy as he could muster. “Well, there’s ONE thing that I can try… come on out Vulpix!”

Ryan called his red fox pokemon out, who gave him a confused look, as if to ask why she had been summoned.

“Vulpix, Gardevoir and Absol have gone missing! Can you find them at all? I know you have some psychic abilities… please try!”

Vulpix closed her eyes as she tried to focus her attention on Ryan’s command. It was true that she had some psychic abilities – however, they were very limited, and couldn’t actually do anything to find the missing pokemon. She turned back round to face Ryan, unhappy at not being able to find her friends.

“It’s ok, don’t worry about it! It was just a thought anyhow…”

Ryan was about to call the small fox back, but she suddenly came up with an idea! Using her Extrasensory move, she managed to force Ryan’s bad open and pull out a clear, bright red stone with an orange flame running through the inside. It dropped to the floor with a slight thud.

“Vulpix, what are you doing? That’s…”

But Ryan didn’t have time to finish; Vulpix had already run over to the stone and smothered it with her paw! Reacting to the intense energy running inside the stone, a familiar white glow surrounded her, and she began to evolve! The resulting pokemon was a pale brown fox, around four feet tall. Nine magnificent tails flowed behind her, each with a chocolate tip. A delicate tuft of fur rested on top of her head, somehow adding to the elegance of her appearance. Her bright red eyes shone mysteriously, making you uneasy if you looked at them for too long.

“Vulpix… wait, no, you aren’t Vulpix now; you’re Ninetails!”

Having used the power of the Fire Stone to evolve, Ninetails took her paw off of the now lifeless rock. Looking at herself in the clear reflection of the stone, her eyes lit up with joy. She was clearly pleased with her new look! Once she had gotten over the immediate joy of looking at herself, she remembered why she wanted to evolve in the first place. She fanned her beautiful tails out behind her, as far apart as they could possibly be. A familiar pinkish purple aura surrounded her body, causing a slight wind to blow in the area around the fox. After about three minutes, Ninetails opened her mouth and shot a strange green flame towards the ground, which danced around like a slinky in a pattern on the ground. The flame was writing a note! Ninetails must have managed to find the missing pokemon, and was using this ethereal fire to say where they were.

“Ninetails, we’re in the Evergreen Pokemon Centre, as the one at Rowan wasn’t working. Absol is getting healed as we speak, and we will be with you shortly.”

Having spelt out its message, the flames died down, leaving no trace of their existence behind them. Ninetails, having also finished communicating with Gardevoir, stopped glowing and waltzed over to Ryan, cuddling into him affectionately. Still in awe at her willingness to evolve without any provocation, he just bent down to pet his new pokemon. Calum gazed at the spot where the message was written, thinking about his Gardevoir for a second. “Come back soon Gardevoir…” he whispered softly to himself, fighting to keep tears from running down his face. Seeing his friend’s expression, Ryan was quick to try and comfort him.

“Calum… don’t cry, please! They’re coming back; they said so themselves! Why don’t we head towards the gym and meet up with Jamie… I’m sure Gardevoir will make it back by the time you’re done.”

Calum stopped looking blankly at the floor and turned to face Ryan. “You’re right… let’s go.”

Rowan Town’s gym wasn’t too far away from the pokemon centre, so the journey didn’t take very long. The gym building was in the shape of an erupting volcano, something that neither Calum nor Ryan had noticed beforehand. “At least we know the gym type before we start…” Ryan muttered, unimpressed by the thought of a fire gym in the middle of such dense woodlands. At the door of the building, several hot springs were steaming, creating a relaxing atmosphere around the outside.

“Boy, things sure do get back to normal quickly, don’t they Calum?”

Jamie was standing outside of the gym, looking onward towards his next opponent. Entirely dressed in red and orange, he looked rather like a human fireball – probably the image he was going for. Calum walked over to greet his friend, knowing full well what kind of battle he was about to have.

“So… are you going to put us through your gym’s puzzle and get our challenge underway then?”

Jamie was slightly taken aback by this abrupt request, hoping he could talk a little to Calum first. Sighing, and beginning to look a little sheepish, he replied, “well, actually… things don’t get back to normal THAT quickly. Team Leafre wrecked my thermally powered movement systems, so my gym’s tricks aren’t working for now. So… how about we just battle and get it over with?”

Still a little sombre about not having his Gardevoir, Calum was more than happy to just get into a battle and go for the badge. Upon hearing the acceptance of the challenge, Jamie lead Calum and Ryan into his arena.

The inside of the building had completely changed from when Calum and Laura had battled. You really got the impression that you were in an active volcano – the metallic floor revealed a pool of seething lava underneath, the walls were all craggy and loaded with gemstones, and they gradually came closer to each other as you looked up towards the “roof”, which was open-top.

“Ready to battle then Calum? Blaziken, let’s do this!”

A human shaped, bird-like pokemon came out onto the metallic field. His grey claws were cloaked in flickering flames, as was a lot of his body. Most of his body was a bright red colour, save for the yellow chest and legs, and the long white hair streaked behind it. He stared at Calum with a calm and collected expression on his face – it was clear to see that this was a very well trained pokemon.

“Well… looks like I’ll have to use my best match-up first if that’s what you’re using! Milotic, go!”

Calum’s dazzling water pokemon came to the field, radiating her becalming aura as normal. Upon seeing her opponent firing up, her own expression turned a little sterner, as she sized up what Blaziken was capable of.

“Blaziken, let’s fire up! Focus Energy, let’s go!”

Blaziken closed his eyes and began to focus his internal energy as instructed to. The fire surrounding him was becoming more intense with every second that passed, causing Calum to grow a little concerned for Milotic. Seeing the build-up of fire energy, he decided to try and nullify this with a trick of his own.

“Milotic, try and cool it down somewhat with Rain Dance! It seems to be building mostly fire energy… and we can stop that!”

The scales on Milotic’s tail shimmered with an aquatic blue glaze as she cried towards the sky, causing dark clouds to appear at the crater of the gym! Soon enough, a heavy downpour came hurtling towards the field, forcing Blaziken to weaken the fiery aura it had created around itself. Seeing this, Milotic wasted no time in waiting for an order – she went straight into a Water Pulse attack! The sonic wave quickly passed through the pouring rain and struck the unfocused Blaziken head on, but he wasn’t fazed by the attack. It WAS angry at it, however.

Jamie was a little angered by it as well. “You might want to raise that Milotic a little better Calum… it shouldn’t be attacking without your command! Anyhow, since it DID, let’s show it what we do to those who do that to US! Blaziken, Double Kick, go!”

Blaziken charged forwards at a blinding speed towards Milotic. Leaping the final few feet, it lunged feet first into the snake-like pokemon, delivering a swift kick to her lower body. This caused her to reel in shock and pain, giving Blaziken the time to dive in a deliver another kick straight to the neck! All the training it had been put through was really showing here – Milotic was under a good deal of pressure just to stay in the battle after a single attack against it.

“Gah, Milotic, come on! I know it’s tough, but you’re tougher! Show it with Hydro Pump!”

Milotic, after making some distance between herself and Blaziken, opened her delicate mouth and shot out an enormous volume of water directly at the fire pokemon! Blaziken managed to leap out of the way of the main blast, but couldn’t avoid all of it – the rain that was still falling in the gym had increased the size of the attack too much for him to fully evade it. Blaziken span off into the wall, winded slightly from the strength of the impact. Seeing her chance, Milotic redirected the endless spray towards the grounded Blaziken, hitting it head-on. Even with how well it was trained, there was no getting up from that – it was down for the count.

“Come back Blaziken…” Jamie said, sighing softly as he did so. “I should have known that you’d be packing water Calum, since you always DID like that Milotic… But you can’t beat all of my pokemon with it! Charizard, take her!”

Throwing his next poke ball onto the field, Jamie sent out a colossal red lizard with wide-spreading wings and a large flame on the end of its tail. It roared in delight at the prospect of a new opponent to battle – a feeling not shared by Milotic, however.

“Charizard, let’s try and stall this rain out; use Will-O-Wisp!”

“I don’t think so Jamie! Milotic, Safeguard, quickly!”

The huge lizard’s flame tail turned from bright red to whitish blue as it fired the same colour flames from its mouth towards Milotic. She was ready for this one however, covering herself in a pale blue barrier that stopped the flames from having any effect whatsoever. Milotic then glanced at Calum, waiting for another command whilst the rain was still in play.

“Ok, now try another Water Pulse!”

Jamie laughed. “That won’t catch Charizard here out! Fly away now!”

Milotic sent off another sonic pulse through the rain towards where Charizard was standing, but he saw the attack coming from far away. Before it was even launched, he had flown high into the air, and was now circling ominously around Milotic's head.

Calum looked up in annoyance, not expecting the move to be avoided so quickly. “Milotic, let’s drag it down from there… use Blizzard towards the sky! Then Protect from the inevitable…”

Jamie was curious. “Inevitable? What do you mean Calum?”

As he tried to figure out what was meant, Milotic created a huge wave of frigid energy from all around her body, and had sent it towards the sky. Charizard didn’t even have to try hard to evade this attack, simply flying close to the wall to avoid every last snowy flake that was fired up at it. Once the attack had ceased, it charged towards Milotic, looking to get a strong Slash of some sort in before any more attacks came. Milotic followed the orders she was given though, protecting herself with a pale green light that sent Charizard reeling back into the air. Up above, the storm clouds caused by Rain Dance were starting to dissipate slowly. However, they had one final surprise first…

Powered by the freezing energy Milotic had given them, the rain falling from the clouds began to freeze in mid-air! Within seconds, icicles were raining down as opposed to raindrops! Milotic was still under the influence of her Protect attack, and so took no damage from any of this. Charizard, on the other hand, was sent back into the air from the Protect in the first place, and had nowhere to run from the incoming storm. It’s back and wings were struck hundreds of times by the sharp, needle-like shards of ice falling from above, forcing it down to the ground in agony. Several shards could be seen poking out from beneath his skin – he was obviously in a lot of misery at this time. As the clouds above finally cleared, Charizard could be seen struggling to try and get on his feet again, with Jamie being unable to do anything but look in shock at what just happened to his pokemon. Not wanting to draw the battle out any longer, Calum issued a command for Milotic to use Hydro Pump again, which it swiftly executed to put Charizard down as quickly as it had come out.

“What the… she took out Charizard as well!? That Milotic is vicious…”

Jamie was stunned at the power of Milotic, but not willing to give up to it either.

“Well then, I guess you’ll have to take him on entirely! Typhlosion, go!”

The last pokemon sent out by Jamie was a large ferret pokemon, with a yellow belly and a dark blue back. A ring of flames covered his neck, indicating that this pokemon was also up for battle, and that he wanted to avenge his fallen comrades. Jamie was quick off of the mark to issue commands this time, giving orders before anyone could even react.

“Typhlosion, combine Quick Attack and Thunderpunch!”

Crying audibly as it carried the commands out, the ferret pokemon darted over on all fours towards Milotic at such a pace that it became impossible to track it! The next thing anyone knew, he had charged headlong into Milotic, sending her crashing into the wall. Quickly giving chase, Typhlosion darted over once more towards Milotic, but this time he threw an electrified punch straight into her belly! Howling in pain, Milotic crumpled to the floor, buzzing and crackling with static electricity.

“Milotic, no…”

Calum hastily called his pokemon back before any more damage could be done to it. Having already lost one pokemon like that, he was unwilling to take any risks at all with any others. However, he was in a bit of a tight situation now regarding what to send out.

“Hmm… if I send out Growlithe, he’s going to get hammered,” he thought to himself, trying to figure out what to do here. “But if I send out Eevee, he will be beaten worse… or worse yet, he might kill Typhlosion! What do I do…”

Before he could finish his sentence however, a curious black poke ball was thrown from behind him onto the field. Turning round to see who had thrown it (thinking that they were interfering with the match somehow), Calum looked sternly in the direction that the ball had been thrown from. His gaze quickly softened when he saw who it was, however.

“I hope we’re on time, master. Your new acquaintance would like to take this next one, if you don’t mind…”

The poke ball on the field opened to reveal the next pokemon… but was it in an able condition to battle?

Well, there we go... now, I don't think there's many questions to accompany this, but I'll try and come up with a couple...

Why did it take SO long for Gardevoir and Absol to make it back? And HOW did Absol land up inside a black poke ball anyhow?

Anyone actually know what poke ball IS black anyways? It should be clear to those who play the games, but I just want to know if anyone remembers :p

Oh, and why has nobody tried to kill me again yet? Is there perhaps a rare break from that coming up?

Finally, is Absol going to be fit enough to battle the fierce Typhlosion? And if it can win, what move is it going to have to win with?

All this and more... next time! :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Wow, milotic took out two pokémon very easily...! The blizzard/hail thing was brilliant to say the least!

But now with a fiery Typhlosion on the field, what will Calum do...?

hmm you sem to have something cooking with this absol and gardevoir abscense! I dont know what it is though!

I imagine if it is fire field with lava at the bottom absol won't be doing to many up close physical attacks, X-scissor maybe?

So you finally cranked this out! Great job!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Lol James - that's the first thing that should come to peoples minds when they see the description of the ball. But who knows if it IS a Luxury Ball or not? ;)

I haven't started writing the next chapter yet - I'm too occupied in trying to go through Courtyard Colosseum's Survival Match on PBR first. I'll try and start this sometime next week.

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Well, I got bored today, so I decided to do the next chapter. See what you think!

Chapter 16 – Fight Fire With Fire

“Typhlosion, Flamethrower now!”

The flames around the fiery ferret pokemon’s neck flared up violently as he shot a gigantic stream of flames towards Absol, who had just been sent into battle by Gardevoir upon their return to Calum’s side. Seeing this from a mile away, Absol merely jumped out of the way, landing five feet away from the wall of the arena.

“Absol, use Taunt! Make sure it keeps attacking you!”

Calum’s command caused Absol to adopt a pompous stance. He arrogantly swaggered left and right, infuriating Typhlosion in the process. The fire around the ferret’s neck rose even higher than before. Absol smugly faced his foe; the attack had the desired effect, to say the least.

“Don’t take that Typhlosion! Use Eruption!”

“Oh wow… Absol, Detect, NOW!”

It appeared that making Typhlosion reach his anger point wasn’t such a great idea after all. Typhlosion’s fiery neck burned a brilliant white as flames literally erupted from all over his body, cloaking the field in fire! With fireballs raining everywhere, Calum could only hope that Absol had executed his command in time…

“Typhlosion, stop! Surely he’s out by now… let’s see what became of Absol, yes?”

Eventually, Typhlosion calmed down enough to cease firing for a short while. It was a good job that it did as well, because parts of the gym’s walls were chipping and falling around the edges of the battlefield due to the ferocity of the attack! As the smoke from the numerous fireballs cleared, Absol could be seen lying head-down on the ground. He was slightly scathed from the assault, but was largely ok! The order to Detect must have reached him just in time…

Sensing that the attack had finished, Absol lifted his head up to check on the surroundings. Several large dents could now be seen on the floor between the two pokemon; the impact of the fiery attack was plain to see. Seeing that Absol was largely unhurt only made Typhlosion go into a rage once more, and his neck began to flare up once again!

“Typhlosion, let’s end this! Eruption again!”

Knowing that Absol couldn’t run from the attack forever, Calum quickly thought about what to do. But he couldn’t see anything immediately… and before he knew it, the attack was coming again!

“Absol, no! Use Stone Edge!”

Seeing the size of the incoming fireballs would have been enough to make any pokemon freeze with fear… but not Absol. Holding fast to Calum’s command, it raced over to the wall, which had crumbled slightly. Jagged, rocky shards of this wall were lying on the ground, almost knife-like in appearance. Using a quickly charged Razor Wind, Absol gathered the stones up in a swirling gust of air and sent them straight at the incoming balls of flame! The resulting explosion caused the entire building to shake almost to the point of collapsing… neither Calum nor Jamie had ever seen any attacks collide with such ferocity! It almost looked like nothing could survive such a heavy blast… but when the smoke eventually cleared, one pokemon was still standing.

Absol, despite trying its best to stem the flow of the attack, wasn’t able to take it out in time to protect itself. He was lying unconscious on the ground; his body was charred all over from the impact of such a vicious attack. However, Typhlosion didn’t get away without any damage at all. He was reduced to standing on all fours, panting heavily from the impact of the explosion. Calum couldn’t believe what he was seeing… somehow, Typhlosion had survived, but Absol didn’t…

“Return Absol,” Calum said, bitterly disappointed at the outcome. However, seeing how weak Typhlosion had become, he saw an opportunity to end the game. “Eevee, go! Use Quick Attack!”

As soon as the brown dog had hit the field, it charged forwards, right into the panting Typhlosion! Even with the size difference taken into account, the velocity Eevee was travelling at, combined with the suddenness of the attack, caused the ferret pokemon to be knocked back into the remains of the wall! Typhlosion struggled to pull itself away from the wall, but when it did, the rage in his eyes was all too plain to see. Jamie looked at his pokemon, unsure how it was even IN the fight still… but he wasted no time in commanding it.

“Typhlosion, let’s end this now! Reversal!”

A reddish brown aura encircled Typhlosion as it gathered up all of his energy into making one final all or nothing charge at Eevee. The pace of the charge was significantly less than it would normally be, but even at this slow pace, he was still as fast as Eevee! Seeing this, Calum decided that only one move could have the power to take Typhlosion out… but it surely wasn’t worth the risk?

“Eevee… Shadow Ball.”

In the brief time it had, Eevee looked round at Calum in shock. How could his master ask something like this, with all the risks that are associated with the move?

“I know it’s a risk, but… it’s the only chance you have. You WILL fall to Reversal if you let it get close enough… just do it.”

Calum’s eyes stung with tears at the thought of actually ordering the move to be used, but he knew that there was no other way. Despite having mixed feelings about the move, Eevee decided to trust his master, and began to attack. He closed his eyes and focused, creating a black sphere in front of himself. However, unlike the previous Shadow Balls, this one was completely transparent! Eevee had never actually seen the attack himself, but he could tell that this one wouldn’t harm Typhlosion to the same extent as previous ones had harmed others.

By this time, Typhlosion had made it almost to where Eevee was standing, but seeing the large ominous sphere in front of him made him stop dead in his tracks. Seeing this as an opportunity, Eevee fired the ball straight into Typhlosion! The impact made the ferret howl in pain… even though its life wasn’t in danger, it was clearly suffering from the attack. It didn’t take long before it was knocked out once and for all – but not drained of life. Jamie and Calum both called their pokemon back and went over to congratulate each other.

“Wow… you won against Typhlosion after all then. I must say that your Eevee’s power impressed me Calum,” Jamie said, complimenting his rival’s powerful attack. “But I’m a little puzzled over one thing… why did Eevee hesitate before carrying out your order for Shadow Ball?”

Calum looked at the ground for a couple of seconds, then looked back up towards Jamie with a sombre expression. “Well, you see… Eevee’s pendant has caused that attack to prove fatal to pokemon before… but only when hit by a Dark Attack first. However, we had never tried outside of that circumstance… so we weren’t sure what would happen.”

“WHAT!? You could have KILLED my pokemon!?” Jamie was enraged. “How could you take that risk like that! Do you have ANY idea what I’ve been through with that pokemon?”

“Probably about the same that I’ve been through with Eevee…” Calum replied solemnly. “Do you think I like the fact that my Eevee can take lives? I just want rid of this pendant so that I can get back on with what I started out to do… but before I can do that, I need to get to the Pokemon Island, where this little Eevee’s family stays.”

“And to do THAT you need to be able to surf… down to Palm City you go then! You’ll be able to get a HM to use Surf if you beat the leader there. But first… you need to take the Ember Badge!”

Jamie handed Calum a bright red badge in the shape of a dying flame, as well as a bright red TM containing Flamethrower. Flamethrower wasn’t an easy move to come by, and so Calum gratefully accepted the gift.

“Now, away with you! I wish you all the best in your quest, and may you find peace soon!”

Having healed up as usual, Calum and Ryan used Gardevoir to teleport back to Birchwood City; from there it was a quick walk down towards Palm City. But of course, things never go as planned…

“Calum, just what is UP with that black poke ball of Absol’s anyhow?” Ryan asked. He had been curious about the nature of the poke ball since it was thrown into the gym battle. It had the appearance of an Ultra Ball, in style only. The ball was red where the Ultra Ball was yellow, but jet-black otherwise. Neither Ryan nor Calum had ever seen any ball quite like it.

“I’m not too sure Ryan,” Calum replied honestly. “But it can’t be a coincidence that Absol comes to me in this poke ball… maybe time will tell?”

“Yes, maybe,” Ryan said, thoroughly unimpressed by the answer he was given, even though he knew that no better answer was available.

The pair were heading through a collection of small hills, blocking all view of the horizon, Unable to see where they were heading, Ryan sent out Staravia to fly above the hills and check on where they were heading. Calum sent out Gardevoir to allow communication between themselves and the bird. After a brief couple of minutes of Staravia crying shrilly and Gardevoir translating, it became apparent that the group weren’t too far away from the sea! Upon hearing this, Calum became a little concerned; as far as he knew, they were supposed to reach Palm City before the sea, and the city was nowhere to be found.

Before he could contemplate any further however, a piercing metallic cry could be heard from above. In a flash, an unknown enemy had struck Staravia out of the sky! As the shocked bird plummeted towards the ground, the mystery foe came charging down with it. Ryan managed to call Staravia back before impact was made, and the opponent came crashing into the ground as a result! Once it had pulled itself up from out of the ground, it cried shrilly once again, in the same rough, metallic.

Calum gasped. “No way… what it THAT thing doing here!?”

“Hmm… Calum should be on his way soon, after taking out Laura…”

The man who was speaking to Laura before doing her in was reading a history book, trying to gather any and all information about the legend of The Void as he could. Before long, someone knocked on the door.

“Enter!”

A beefy man with dark purple hair and an equally dark jumpsuit walked into the room. The man was unfamiliar to the leader, who instantly got up upon seeing this stranger.

“Who are you!? How did you get in here!?”

The man laughed. “Well, it’s not like it’s difficult when you have abilities like mine… if you must know, my name is Jason. And I’m here on the request of your father…”

The leader looked shocked. “My father? But that’s impossible! How can my father know where I am at the moment!?”

Jason smiled. “He has his ways… but I’m here to deliver a message. You need to make sure that you find Calum when he gets to Pokemon Island… something big is going to happen there, and you need to be a part of it. Your little team here has done well in preparing Calum for this, but now you must go it alone. I have been instructed to take over your lead as the head of Team Leafre, whether it be by force or by agreement. So… get over to Pokemon Island now, and make sure that you’re prepared for your destiny…”

The leader stood in silence for a couple of minutes, before finally saying what was on his mind. “So… my father sends you to find me here, and then tells you to force me out of my team to meet Calum on some island!?”

Jason looked placidly at the leader. “That is correct.”

“Well then, WHERE am I exactly? I’m pretty sure that this isn’t the world I’m used to if my father isn’t here…”

Jason continued to merely stare without expression. “You will find this out when you fulfil your destiny as I have described it… now, if you’ll excuse me Gregor, I have a job to take over… Alakazam, you know what to do.”

A purple and yellow Alakazam suddenly appeared behind Gregor, using his Teleport move to send Gregor far away from the Leafre base that he had been running!

Jason was as placid as ever at the evacuation. “Soon you’ll understand…”

Ok! The name of the "old" Team Leafre boss is revealed! But does anybody remember who he is?

What pokemon is attacking Calum and Ryan this time! And will it be another capture perhaps?

Just what IS up with that pokeball of Absol's anyhow? It's not like anything ever seen before... is this significant perhaps?

And what (apart from the no dark thingy) was so special about this Shadow Ball compared to others? It didn't kill or anything... well, it hurt a lot, but nothing TOO severe.

Find out... next time! :D

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Sorry for the non-chapter writing atm; I have a lot going on with my studies and they have to come first. Pokes haven't been at the top of my list for a bit now, but I'll do my best to get this out sometime soon! D:

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

WOHOO IM CAUGHT UP! I like your story alot gamercal. I like how Gregor ended up being the evil guy, darn just gotta watch those best friends huh?

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

I'm really glad you like the story Muckster :)

However, I regret to inform you peoples that this is going to be sitting tight for another while. I have SO many random assignments to do over the next 2 weeks, and then my exams are up! So... not a lot will happen for a while :(.

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Again, I have to apologize for this, but... I've been swamped entirely for the last two weeks with work and things, and I'll be equally swamped for the next 2 with final assessments coming round. It may be up to another 3 weeks before this gets updated - if it goes beyond the 2-week thing, please don't lock it! I WILL still be writing this, but it's taken a bit longer than I thought it would to clear my work up :(

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Wow, gamercal, after your post in my topic I decided to come check yours out...and I'm really impressed. This is huge! And I'm actually enticed to read it all. Great story just from what I've read so far! And I noticed you have a Ryan in there too. :p

But hey, don't worry about the whole updating thing, studies and other things in life come first. A story is a story, and sooner or later it will be completed. Until then don't rush yourself. We've got all the time in the world.

:)

P.S. - I seriously doubt something like this would be locked. Just for the record. xD

Cheers!

RE: Mysteries of the Mind - A Trainer's Vision

Okies... this has been a LONG time coming, and for that I'm sorry. You wouldn't BELIEVE the amount of work I've had over the last month or so. But I managed to churn this next chapter out, and hopefully it'll be satisfactory for you peoples :)

Chapter 17 – Nerves of Steel…

“OK, let’s strike where it hurts! Growlithe, go!”

Calum sent his ever-loyal fire puppy out to contend with the aerial threat that knocked Staravia out of the sky. The offending pokemon was a bird that was seemingly made out of steel – EVERY feature was encased in a tough silvery metal coating. His claws had three sharp talons that made a triangle shape on the ground. A razor-like horn protruded from his head, adding another blade to the impressive armoury. In addition to these, his tail looked exactly like a Swiss-army knife; this only served to augment the jagged appearance that this pokemon gave. The bird spread his wings as he cried in an attempt to intimidate Growlithe, showing the impressive red metallic feathers underneath the main wings. Growlithe was having none of it, however.

“That’s right Growlithe, don’t let Skarmory scare you at all! Start off with Flamethrower! Try to catch it in your fire stream!”

Despite Growlithe’s best efforts however, it never had a chance of catching Skarmory in the blast. The tricky opponent had already seen this coming from a mile off, and had been ready to start flying long before the puppy had even begun to carry out the order. Shrieking viciously as it circled the battlefield, Skarmory began a spiralling descent towards Growlithe. Seeing this, Growlithe directed his flames straight into the path that the metallic bird was taking, causing him to be cleanly struck with vicious power. But even THAT wasn’t enough to stop it; Skarmory continued his attack, nailing Growlithe with a precise Drill Peck!

Growlithe was sent rolling across the ground in pain, howling and whimpering. Skarmory didn’t get away without any damage at all though; he was forced to make a crash landing on the rocky path underneath it, leaving a trail of flying debris in his wake. Panting heavily, the bird let out a defiant battle cry towards Calum and Growlithe, who had returned to his trainer’s side.

“Hmm… it’s tough, isn’t it?” Ryan said, still peeved at Skarmory for taking out Staravia when it wasn’t harming it at all.

“Yes,” Calum agreed, trying to work out what to do. “It’s not going down, even when it’s struck hard by its weakness… looks like I need to try something new. Growlithe, return!” A little crestfallen about being called back, Growlithe looked at Calum briefly, as if to question the judgement. This was short-lived though – seeing the stern expression on his trainer’s face, he was quick to concede and return without a fuss. “Now… go Gardevoir!”

Calum’s “guardian” pokemon came out as called. Not needing any words from her master about what was going on, she faced Skarmory confidently and prepared herself for battle.

Seeing that his new opponent wasn’t a fire type, Skarmory went straight onto the offensive, looking to strike Gardevoir quickly. His talons began emanating a dull light, indicating that a Night Slash attack was the intention. Being able to read thoughts, Gardevoir was already all too aware of the incoming attack, and wasted no time in teleporting out of the way and firing a Thunder Wave back at Skarmory. This weak electrical pulse connected with its target, leaving it crippled on the floor.

“Ok, you have GOT to stop reading my mind for commands…” Calum said, as he was about to call for Thunder Wave to be used. “Now that you HAVE though… you should know what to do next, hmm?”

“Correct,” Gardevoir said to her trainer’s mind. She focused herself quietly and made a pink, crystalline barrier in from of herself. Having set Reflect up, she began to focus harder to heighten her abilities in order to finish the battle.

Skarmory wasn’t giving up so easily though; as the Reflect was thrown up, he had managed to get himself quite high into the sky, crying furiously from his vantage point in the air. This was short-lived though… pretty soon, the paralysis had kicked in! Unable to maintain flight, the steel bird directed his fall straight towards Gardevoir in a brave attempt to take her down with him!

“Gardevoir, look out! Protect, NOW!”

In what seemed like an eternity to all who watched the battle, Gardevoir came out of her focused state to find her opponent plummeting towards her at an alarming rate. As Skarmory came hurtling towards her, she quickly teleported at the last second to evade the assault! Even for a steel-type, the impact of the resulting crash was too much to bear; Skarmory lay on the ground, barely able to move. Taking his chance, Calum threw his last poke ball at the bird!

The poke ball shook violently for over a minute before finally settling and clicking. Even when it was beaten, Skarmory was STILL resisting capture… Calum went over to the ball and picked it up, sighing in relief as he did so.

“FINALLY…” he said, almost unable to believe how tough a catch that was. “That was insane… thank you for your assistance Gardevoir.”

“Any time… you know I am always here for you master…”

“OK, PLEASE stop with the whole ‘master’ thing already would you? It sounds far too… formal. You don’t have to call me master you know – my name is more than good enough.”

“AHEM…” Ryan interrupted, looking a little irritated as he did so. “If you two are QUITE done enough… you realise that we are STILL lost yes? How do you propose we get out of here now that my Staravia is knocked out and Skarmory can’t fly?”

Calum looked at him blankly for a few seconds. Gardevoir came up with a solution pretty quickly though.

“Skarmory may not be able to move much, but I can still talk to him… he knows this area extremely well, so maybe I can get directions from him?”

“Sounds like a plan! Come on Calum, send him out already!”

“Ok, ok, I’m on it… Skarmory, come on out!” The steel bird came out, lying on the ground. He cried bitterly at his captor, unable to accept that he lost to a human’s pokemon. Gardevoir was quick to recover the bird somewhat though, using Wish to restore his vitality. Although the effect of paralysis was evident, Skarmory managed to get up onto his feet at least, calming down also. Gardevoir began communicating with the bird, and a few uneasy minutes passed by for Calum and Ryan. Finally, Gardevoir conveyed the results to the trainers.

“OK, we were almost on the right track,” she began. “We just have to go further to the west and the city is there. It’s not too far away, so we should be able to make it before nightfall… that is providing that nothing else comes up in the meantime.”

“Excellent!” said Ryan happily. “Now we know where we are going, let’s go for it!”

“There’s one more thing for you Ryan,” said Gardevoir. “Skarmory wants to apologize for taking Staravia out like that; he’s never liked his species and we were in his territory, so…”

Ryan laughed. “Hey, no worries. I can revive it if we get into trouble anyhow.”

As soon as Ryan finished his sentence, another pokemon poked her head up out of the ground! Seeing the trainers conversing with their pokemon, she got out of the ground to take a closer look. She didn’t get too far though – Gardevoir quickly brought the trainer’s attention to the presence of another being nearby.

The pokemon was a relatively small, light brown mouse pokemon with a white belly. Covering her back was an array of darker brown spines that grew from her head to her tail. Her paws ended with three-inch long silver claws, which were naturally dirtied a little by the burrowing she had done. Ryan’s eyes lit up upon seeing the pokemon.

“Oh wow, a Sandslash! I’ve always wanted one of those! Go Azumarill!”

Ryan’s blue-white aqua bunny was sent out, bouncing up and down in his joy. Upon seeing Sandslash, he ran over to it, talking rapidly in a high-pitched voice as he did so. The two began talking to each other quite vigorously – they had clearly found a topic that was interesting for the both of them. Ryan grew tired of this before too long though.

“AHEM…” he shouted, a little irritated by Azumarill’s initial response to the situation. “When you two are QUITE finished… I want to get on with catching this pokemon!”

Azumarill hastily began talking to his new friend again, this time in a more serious tone. He was obviously discussing Ryan’s intentions, and the mouse’s expression showed it. She spoke one line, which was then shouted out by Azumarill to Ryan.

“OK, but you have to prove your worth to me first,” said Gardevoir, translating Azumarill's cry. Ryan grinned.

“Ok Azumarill, let’s take this thing! Use Bubblebeam!”

Azumarill launched a jet stream of small bubbles towards Sandslash. However, she was ready for the attack, and curled into a ball shortly before impact. The sharp brown spines that now covered her entire body popped all of the bubbles that made contact with them, nullifying the attack. In exchange, the sturdy mouse began to roll rapidly towards Azumarill, hoping to catch him before he fully recovered. This proved to be a good move, as the aquatic bunny was caught off-guard by the attack! Azumarill was sent rolling over himself briefly, whilst Sandslash continued to gain momentum with every passing second. Ryan looked on, concerned with the increasing power of the already strong attack that Sandslash was executing. As she began a charge for another round, he came up with a plan.

“Azumarill, fire an Ice Beam at the ground! Send that mouse skywards!”

Understanding what this meant, Azumarill shot a cold wave of energy into the middle ground, creating a curved ramp-like shape from crystal-clear ice. Unable to change her direction in time, Sandslash could do nothing except roll straight onto the ramp and into the air! Ryan wasted no time in giving the next order.

“Ok, quickly; Aqua Jet to meet it, and Aqua Tail to knock it down!”

Azumarill fired a spurt of water at the ground to propel himself into the air to meet Sandslash. As he shot up, Sandslash passed through the stream of water, causing her to cough a little and come out of her Rollout! Seeing this, Azumarill stopped firing water and powerfully slammed his tail right into the mouse’s back, causing her to career towards the ground. A large crash was heard as Sandslash impacted with the rocky surface of the battlefield. It lay face-up, dazed by the strength of Azumarill’s attack. Ryan’s rabbit pokemon landed about 5 feet away from Sandslash, waiting to see if she would get up. Ryan wasn’t giving her the chance however; he had already thrown the poke ball in an attempt to catch her!

Like Skarmory, Sandslash wasn’t ready to give up at all. The ball shook violently for a good two or three minutes, as both Ryan and Calum looked on nervously to see if the capture was successful. Unlike Skarmory though, Sandslash wasn’t paralysed, and proved too powerful for the container to keep. Bursting out of the poke ball, she looked jeeringly towards Ryan, before lunging towards a surprised Azumarill with both claws extended. He was barely able to get out of the way of the lunge before the swipe was made.

“Woah… she’s tougher than she looks,” said Ryan, a little awed at the strength of Sandslash. “Don’t let your guard down Azumarill! Try to slow it down with Icy Wind!”

After dodging several failed attempts to slash him, Azumarill fired a jet of water at the ground to stun Sandslash and get a short distance between them. This was quickly followed up by a harsh blast of chilling air, numbing the perplexed mouse and slowing her movement. Angered by attack, she made a move towards Azumarill again to try and slash him, but this time she was much more easily predicted.

“Azumarill, wait for the right moment, then overpower her with Focus Punch!”

Being able to read the movements of Sandslash much better, Azumarill tightened his focus as requested. As the first slash from the mouse pokemon came in, Azumarill matched it by blocking it with his arm. He then used his other arm to punch Sandslash in the exposed belly with an incredible force. The poor mouse, unprepared for such a sudden counterattack, was winded by the power of the move. Falling onto her knees, she seemed as if she was resigned to the fact that she had lost, and lay motionless on the ground. Once again, Ryan wasted no time in throwing the poke ball in an attempt to catch the pokemon he wanted so badly.

This time, there wasn’t much of a fight at all. Hardly able to even MOVE after the Focus Punch, Sandslash was in no condition to put up a struggle inside the ball this time, and within thirty seconds the click that signified a capture was heard. Ryan raced over to the poke ball and held it high in the air, punching the air in delight.

“YES! I got Sandslash! That was one of my most wanted pokemon picked up!”

There was seemingly no end to Ryan’s joy. Calum just looked on; he knew what it was like to get his favourite pokemon, and there was no need to spoil the moment. Azumarill was also happily celebrating with his trainer, overjoyed at having a new friend to play with.

“Well done Ryan!” said Calum, congratulating his friend on his latest capture. “It’s been a while since you caught anything… but shouldn’t we be heading towards Palm City by now? It’s getting late…”

Calum was right as well; the sun was already setting over the mountains. Snapping back into reality, Ryan looked up and saw the darkening sky overhead. “Right… sorry about that. Sandslash is one of my favourite pokemon, and I never thought I would get one!”

On that note, the pair recalled all of their pokemon and continued through the mountains towards their destination. Unbeknownst to them however, they weren’t alone… three men stood between the mountains, hiding in the shadows.

“Is that him boss?” the first man whispered gruffly, looking for a chance to prove his worth.

“Yeah, that’s him,” the reply came. “He’s the one who has driven me to this in the first place… he killed my Trapinch and I’ll never forgive him for it! Come on you two, let’s get him!”

The trio snuck out of their hiding spot to tail Calum and Ryan for a while, waiting for an ideal opportunity to strike. They didn’t have to wait long; the path was quickly narrowing as the mountains drew closer together, making battle for most pokemon a difficult prospect. This favoured Lewis, as he was more than prepared for a mountain brawl. Eventually the hills covered 3 sides of the path, creating the feeling of a dead end. Seeing this, Lewis decided to make his presence felt, and he shouted out to Calum and Ryan.

“YOU! It’s about time you showed up… this is my home turf. I’ve waited a long time to get revenge on you… you killed my Trapinch, and now you’re going to pay for it! Paul, Steve, you take down Ryan and get his pokemon; I’M taking out Calum!”

Complying with their order, Paul and Steve corner Ryan using their pokemon, preventing him from helping Calum at all. Lewis smiled devilishly.

“Now… you’re about to see the true might of Lewis! Rhydon, take him down!”

Lewis sent out a towering grey pokemon with a large, imposing horn. All of his features were highly intimidating, from the burly, tree trunk-like limbs to the gigantic tail, and the row of sharp scales lining his back. His entire body was encased in a durable hide, including the pale brown belly. The brutish roared in delight at being sent into battle. Eying Calum carefully, he waited to see what he would send out to take him on.

Calum wasn’t at all sure what TO send out though… Milotic was the obvious option, but the terrain didn’t suit her at all… but other than Eevee nobody else was at all suitable for battle. And Eevee was at a major disadvantage against the enormous opponent.

“Your times up Calum!” Lewis sneered, sure that he would be able to win anything with his prized pokemon. “If you give up now, you might live to see another day…”

Hmm... what do you guys think? Lewis makes a comeback! But what will happen in the forthcoming battle?

Find out... next time! :)
