New Ban Policy - PokeBeach Forum Jail

I nominate Jose Baez! In all seriousness why would you ban someone if they shouldn't have been banned?

As soon as I logged onto Pokebeach, that ban letter was the first thing I saw and I jumped out of my chair. Though, I would never imagine this happening on any forum.

To all you people who want to be lawyers:

There's no need. Lawyers are used (in criminal proceedings, as far as I see it) mostly to convince of innocence, usually providing alibi's and counter evidence. However, in our case, all the evidence we need is right in the offenders post. So, a lawyer for that would be pointless. It's almost impossible to disprove what is in blatant writing. So then, what would a Pokebeach lawyer say? "He didn't mean it, let him go," ? The offender can do that themselves. Obviously, there's no need for a lawyer.

I like how people are taking the lawyer suggestion seriously...

Yep, I now officially love this thread.

Lawyers. This is going to be interesting. Ban trials?

I love it! But I kind of feel like the younger members, say 10 and younger should get a little leeway. Just because of reasons like bad spelling and lack of detail. I'm not trying to offend anyone, there are some amazing 10 year olds on here, but you know.

Yay Zach can come back now. Im liking this way better since it will lower Spam and other warning related things. Horray for staying at 0% warning for months now.

Advertise, curse (a lot), show naughty images, flame EVERYONE, multiple accounts. Those are sure fire ways to get banned.

All the banned members on right now. Word got out fast.

I know right? I've already seen Joeypals!!, esperante, Gale, Zero, and a few others on here already! It's incredible how fast word got to them.

I somewhat went through this when I was banned, stated my case, got a warning removed, and was unbanned. Got rebanned for something later that day. But no warnings since :) I can see how this new system can and will rehabilitate bad posters since pm's to a mod helped me get clarification on the rules. A private thread with possibly multiple mods seems amazing to help banned people know what not to do

Are all the rules going to be organised into different...'caliburs of offenses'?
As in if you break one rule and get banned will it mean you are more likely to stay banned than if you commited another offense.
Good system though, acting like a full reboot of the forums.

Wow! This is amazing! It means there is no such thing as a "stupid ban" anymore. No one can't complain about that! :D

In those rare cases I'm sure we can work something out.

How about make a chat in the Jail thread where members can still chat with the members to be able to setup a trade or make it so the members can use the profile comment box to do their trades. Most sites allow this to members that are perma banned. That way they can at least read the news and do their trades etc.:)

I originally felt this way too, but to be perfectly honest it's wishful thinking to assume that any moderation team in existence can execute their duties perfectly, and that all bans are "fair". What you have here is a sort of safeguard against unfair bans; If a member is unfairly banned, they are able to make their case and more importantly every moderator gets a chance to see what is going on.

I'm not defending the jail forum entirely because I frankly don't know all the ins and outs of the system, but on the face of it at least I'm confident that bans may be a bit fairer so long as the number of "judges" present at each appeal is a sufficiently large number to overcome individual biases. However, if bias does creep into the system, I accept that is rather dangerous because all bans are now automatically permanent.

Does anyone know a good way to get banned? Like a for-sure way.

Check out the amazing threads archive for inspiration.

Judging by your signature you probably don't want to visit these forums any more, but if it's something you feel strongly about then I really encourage you to actually post your thoughts and opinions about the forums, because that's the only way you have a chance of seeing change. Purposefully breaking the rules simply ensures your silence and hurts your cause because nobody wants to listen to a dude who acts like that.

I can definitely see how this can prove to be a more "fair" system that would provide at least some possible defense to the banned. The most clear downside I can see is the new workload that the staff will face now when faced with maintaining this system. Well, there's been an increase in moderators so it's nice to see that PokeBeach wouldn't be considered overstaffed.

If you think about it bans can be a matter of a few minutes to a few hours day's weeks months or years and or forever and the staff has to do only 1 ban therefore if they do prove their case then the ban expires. If not you are dead in this case. If you know what I mean anyway.:)
