I'm not sure if elements has this, but you need to "squash" the numbers, using free transform.

Basically Nintendo do this to most their text, if they aren't custom made (which alot annoyingly are). The 23 should be squashed more from left to right, only a few pixels nothing major.

The 1 however should be a seperate layer and again squashed slightly more. The actual font spacing by default are terrible, tis why seperate layers :)

(same for 'HP', as above...)

n.b. you may also find squashing the name slightly, from right to left may help too.

Thanks for the help. I suppose then the "squashing" must be done by hand due to the different spacing of different numerals and letters. I'll just fiddle with it until I get something that works out.

Edit: I should also mention that Photoshop Elements, at least in version 9, supports all the necessary sorts of transformations and other functions for card faking that I'm aware of.

Edit 2: One last thing. I noticed that none of the font-packs I have downloaded included a heavy type for Futura std (used for attack damage numbers), but I am fairly certain (looking at scans and things) that Futura std. Medium with a Faux Bold and ~98% width is a very close substitute. Just thought everyone should know

I'm having an issue with fonts and alignment at the moment.

I am following the guide posted by Aschefield (thank you), but as you can see things don't seem to line up properly.

I'm using Photoshop (Elements 9) with the specified fonts (trusting that the versions I have, which I found in this thread, are correct) at the specified sizes with one of Aschefield's XY blanks. Despite this, the result isn't quite identical to what appears in the placement guide (even matching up identical bits of text, they are slightly off).

I can't seem to fix this, even after trying several different font downloads and other minute changes. Other things, like ability icons line up perfectly, so there's no issue there. Text is the only problem.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, your font for the pokemon name looks too thick but that might just be my brain being stupid after being awake for more than 30 hours.

I recommend the OP be updated with more blanks, such as XY blanks.

Speaking of, I need to .rar the old wiki ones and place on the DA group. *makes a note*

For anyone else, the DA group can be found via my signature (can't place specific links afaik, so you'd have to go through my page and see my groups, tis on there) and v.2 of the XY blanks are on there, amongst many others.

here have some blanks

So what types are what for text-based cards?
I've been using [Dr] for Dragons in my planning sheets, but seeing people use [N] here. And Fairies! What are Fairies?!
EDIT: Nevermind, had to trawl the forums a bit longer. [Y] is for Fairies! There needs to be some text-based help thingo like how there's image-based help in the OP here!

B-but text based fakes are so booooooooooring

Anyone know the correct ordering for types in attacks? e.g.

Lets say you have an attack called Kaboom! and it requires 1 colorless, 1 fairy and 1 dark, has Nintendo ever given anything concrete on all 10 type orderings?

As I've always assumed it was the same as how they layout types now in the TCG : grass > fire > water > lightning > psychic > fighting > dark > fairy > colorless

Add in Metal between Darkness and Fairy and I'd say you're completely correct, asche! Earlier cards like Mewtwo

, as well as more recent Dragon-type cards, seem to confirm.

What is the best photo editor to use for fake cards on a Mac? I absolutely hate mac because nothing works on it, but I can't get a new computer or anything so...

It's still Photoshop. I've had an iMac for years.

Using anything but photoshop or something very well designed for mac is a pain. There might also be some good web-based ones, but I doubt it.

When in doubt, use photoshop. Also, what's wrong with mac? I like mine.

I should have clarified. The best free Photo Editor. Isn't Photoshop a payed download?

Same as CMP, I should have said free photo editor. Is there a free version?
Also, I don't like Mac because 90% of downloads don't work for it, or are only available in outdated versions.

According to its website, GIMP (one of, if not the best free photo-editing programs) is natively compatible with Mac so long as you install the 2.8.2 version or above. You can download it from the official website here.

EDIT: Sniped. Oh well. Both PS CS2 and GIMP are almost certainly fine for card faking. You might want to try using both and see what more suits your fancy. Good luck!

I have gimp, and haven't found it the best for fake cards, although I like it for Minecraft Texture Packs
