RE: Pokémon Max's Story: The PMC VS. The LPC Seventeen!
Chapter 12: Blind as a Rock! And Ice...And Steel Too!!!!
“Alright,” said Abad, “Here’s the deal…”
The senior members of the PMC were in the meeting room, discussing the LPC problem…again.
“Here’s what we’ve determined,” said Abad, “The LPC has, for the most part, been going after the legendaries in the order of their discovery, with the exception of the egg and Ho-oh. We believe the egg was something they stumbled across, and going after Ho-oh was to tell us that they mean business.
“So, other than that, it’s quite possible the next Pokémon that they are gonna go after are Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.”
“But,” said James, “These legends aren’t as…humane as the others…”
“Basically,” said Max, “We need to defeat them in battle to earn their trust.”
“Hey!” said Jason, “I fought off Regirock once and beat him! That’s one down!”
“Not quite…every time you encounter them, you must reengage them in battle. I’ve had to fight them in both wars in order to get them on our side against the NPZ.”
“Right,” said Abad, “Now, after the last war, Max, James, and I took the Regis back to their caverns and locked them up again, so they could rest. Also, this was in case we ever needed them again, as it would be very hard to defeat all three in battle at once.
“Jay, you will go after Regirock in the desert route north of Mauville. Shadow, you will take on Regice, on the sea route between Petalburg Woods and Dewford Town. And Max, Registeel is yours, between Fortree and Lilycove. Happy battling.”
The old trio headed outside.
“So,” said Shadow, “How’s Charizard?”
“Still recovering,” said Max, “It’ll be another week or so before he’ll be good enough to battle again.”
“They’re still trying to remove all that glass in the middle of the desert,” said Jay, “It’s kind of funny.”
“Yep. Anyways, we should be flying outta here.”
“Salamence!” yelled Shadow.
“Altaria!” yelled Jay.
“Aerodactyl!” yelled Max.
They mounted their respective Pokémon, and flew off toward Hoenn. They flew together until they reached the border, then, split off into three separate directions.
Max landed in the middle of a huge downpour. Aerodactyl hated it, so Max returned him to his PokéBall.
“Go, Poliwhirl!” said Max. Max’s old friend, Poliwhirl, had come along for the ride, and loved the rain.
They walked a few hundred feet, when Poliwhirl pointed out in front of them frantically.
“What the heck?” asked Max. Their were a bunch of explorers digging around the cavern of Registeel!
Max ran up to a guy at a desk under the large tent they had set up to block the rain.
“Who do you think you are?” the man asked.
“I was going to ask the same of you,” said Max, “Do you have any idea what this place is?”
“Ancient caverns, ones that can hold many answers to the beginning of both humans and Pokémon, that is why we are exploring it.”
“And who in his right mind authorized this nonsense?”
“Lance, of course.”
“That is it!”
Max whipped out his Pokémon: Sceptile, Aggron, Aerodactyl, Feraligatr, Nidoking, Furret, Poliwhirl, and Monferno.
“What are you doing?” the man asked.
“Scrap this place,” Max ordered his Pokémon.
“You do and I’ll have you arrested! I know who you are and that is the last thing you need on your record.”
“You listen and listen good! If I don’t get rid of you now, someone else will, and trust me, it’s a lot less merciful than I am!”
“There is nothing here, and-”
A huge Zap Cannon blasted men out of the cave.
“Told ya,” Max said with a smirk.
Registeel came charging out, rampaging over anything and everything that was in his way. Once he had blasted all the men, he turned to Max.
Max turned to his Pokémon. He looked over them, analyzing who would perform to top efficiency in this match.
“Aggron, let’s go!” yelled Max. Aggron stepped forward, and Registeel made a gesture signaling that he accepted the challenge.
“Water Pulse!” yelled Max.
Registeel used Protect, and then Superpower. It hit Aggron hard.
“Alright,” said Max, “Get back in their! Dragon Claw!”
Aggron tried to Dragon Claw his opponent with both arms, and Registeel caught them both. It became a test of strength.
Then, Abad came flying in on Dragonite. He didn’t want to miss a battle like this.
“Wow,” said Abad, “It’s cool to see Pokémon do this.”
“Yeah,” said Max, “With all the moves Pokémon have learned, none of them ever do stuff like this anymore.”
The two Steel Type Pokémon were evenly matched, but Aggron had one advantage.
His fellow Pokémon that were still out began cheering him on, and it seemed as though the cheering was giving him more strength.
With that, Aggron began pushing Registeel to the ground. When the legend fell, it was not KOed, but it accepted defeat. In the Pokémon world, a Pokémon took a loss to the test of strength as a defeat.
Max was now able to approach Registeel for the third time that he had defeated him. Abad had a phone call, so Max proceeded with what had become somewhat of a process.
“Registeel,” said Max kindly, “The other Pokémon like you are in danger, we need you to come with us so that nothing happens to you, will you come with me?”
Registeel stood up and kneeled, a sign of respect. Then, Abad yelled, “Max! I just got word from Jay, right after he and Shadow beat Regirock an Regice, the LPC came in and captured them!”
“Then that would mean…” said Max.
Suddenly, Registeel shot into the air, and became attached to a giant magnet hanging from a jet. Then, from the bushes came a man wearing a ton of metal jewelry.
“Name’s Spike,” said Spike, “Thanks for beating Registeel for me.”
“Let him go!” said Max.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you? But you see, I’m not as weak as the rest of my family.”
“Really?” asked Abad.
“Care to test that theory?” asked Max.
“Actually,” said Spike, “No. You see, I have what I want, and I have no need to fight for it…go Skarmory!”
He mounted his Pokémon and flew off after the jet.
Back at HQ…
“They are always one step ahead!” yelled Abad in frustration.
“But look who always comes out on top,” said James.
“True…but by now, they have to be at their own headquarters…and we have no idea where that is…”
“Or do we?” asked Ricky.
“What are you talking about?”
“Remember my invention? All I need is a piece of the brail tablet that tells you how to unlock one of their caverns.”
“Unfortunately,” said Max, “It’s deep underwater in the middle of a strong ocean current.”
“Are you forgetting the horde of legendaries in our basement?” asked James, “I’m sure that Lugia would be more than happy to help.”
Max and Shadow flew to the middle of the route between Slateport and Pacifilog, where Lugia dropped them off on a small island.
“Just remove one of the stone tablets,” Max told the giant Pokémon, “It’s all we need.”
“Of course,” replied Lugia.
The Pokémon dove into the sea. After about a half hour, Lugia rose to the surface, carefully cradling a stone tablet in his mouth.
Back at the HQ, they saw the duo riding back on Lugia.
Ricky’s machine was all set to go, and Max and Shadow placed the tablet inside of it.
“No,” said Jay.
“It can’t be…” said Jason.
“Are you sure about that?” asked James.
“Double check,” said Max.
“There is nothing wrong with it, I just tested it fifteen minutes ago!” exclaimed Ricky.
“Max, Jay and Shadow,” said Abad, “You’re going to…Pallet Town?”
They rode on Max’s Aerodactyl, and Jay said, “I still don’t believe it.”
“How on earth could they get away in a quite town like that?” asked Shadow.
“One word,” said Max, “Evil: can pretty much get away with anything right under peoples’ noses.”
“Sounds like you.”
They landed in Pallet Town, the place Max had over the years learned to call home.
Delia ran out of her house with her Mr. Mime to greet Max and his friends. Max gave his aunt a hug, and then Ash came running out with his Pikachu.
“Max!” said Ash, “What brings you guys here?”
“The Legendary Pokémon Clan,” said Shadow.
“They captured the Regis,” said Jay.
“And you think they are in Pallet?” asked Delia.
“We don’t think,” said Max, “We know.”
“Well, in that case,” said Ash, “I’m coming with you guys!”
With Max’s cousin, the gang began looking for clues around town.
Their search finally led them to Oak’s lab. Oak allowed them to look around without question, though he did find it strange that they thought the base was under his land.
All of Max’s and Ash’s were their, and they were delighted to see them.
“Espeon!” yelled Max. He had left his Espeon here to help Oak and Tracy out years ago.
“Wait a minute,” said Ash, “Is this the same little Eevee you gave Mom?”
“Yep, when he evolved, she sent him to me for training. Became an asset to my team when I took on the Hoenn Region.”
“Well,” said Shadow, “A Psychic-Type is just what we need right now!”
“Yeah,” said Jay, “Can Espeon find any hidden entrances?”
“Espeon,” said Max, “Have you seen anyone coming around here lately?”
Espeon ran off in the other direction.
“I’ll take that as a yes!” said Ash. The gang followed.
Espeon took them to the outskirts of town. Then, Max’s PokéGear rang.
“Max, it’s Ricky,” said Ricky, “They appear to be on the move toward Celadon, but, we have our choppers out and they can’t find anything, it must be underground…”
“Yeah,” said Max, “We’re on it!”
He hung up.
“Max!” exclaimed Jay.
Their was a ton of brush, and they couldn’t get through.
“Go Sceptile!” Ask and Max said at the same time, “Fury Cutter!”
Both Sceptiles destroyed the think brush, and revealed a tunnel.
“So,” said Jay, “Who wants to go down the creepy tunnel first?”
Max sent out Monferno, whose tail lit the way for them.
After hours of walking, they realized they were walking in water, and Monferno climbed onto Max’s shoulder.
“Hm…” said Max, “According to my PokéNav, we are under Celadon, which means we must be close to the small pond in Celadon, which also means we are near the old Rocket base.”
“Look up there!” yelled Ash. It was a door.
“Can we open it? Asked Shadow.
Jay tried to open it with his bear hands, but to no avail.
“When it won’t go willingly,” said Max.
“You force it!” yelled Jay, “Machamp!”
“Nidoking!”
“Open that door guys!”
The two powerhouses attacked the door. First, Machamp used a quadruple Dynamic Punch. Then, when he bounced off, Nidoking used Iron Tail.
Machamp next used a Fire Blast, followed by Nidoking using Water Pulse.
Machamp then Mega Punched the control panel, and it opened. Then, Nidoking zapped it with his Thunder attack.
The door slid open.
“Your Nidoking just keeps getting stronger,” said Ash.
“Thanks,” said Max, “But this is no time for flattery. Let’s go.”
They walked into the old Rocket hideout, the one beneath the Game Corner in Celadon City.
Instantly, they were attacked by the three Regis using Zap Cannon!
Machamp threw Nidoking in the way, who took the attack with zero damage.
“What’s gotten into them?” asked Jay.
“Look!” said Shadow, “They’re Shadow Pokémon!”
“What?” asked Jay.
“What’s a Shadow Pokémon?” asked Ash.
As Max took out his Shadow Pokémon ID, which covered his right eye, he said, “Pokémon whose hearts have been artificially closed…however, this will be very easy!”
“You wanna bet?” said Frost, who stood behind Regice.
“C’mon cousins!” said a guy dressed in mining gear.
“You got it Clay!” said Spike.
“Zap Cannon!” they yelled together.
“Go Jolteon!” yelled Shadow.
“Starmie!” yelled Jay.
“Pikachu!” yelled Ash.
“Furret!” yelled Max, “All of you! Take that energy and reverse it into a Thunder!”
The Pokémon listened without hesitation. They blasted the Regis hard.
“Use Blizzard!” yelled Frost.
Regice targeted Jolteon, and Max yelled, “Flamethrower!”
Furret melted the blizzard, then Jay yelled, “Hydro Pump!”
He blasted Regirock.
“Volt Tackle!” yelled Ash.
Pikachu began using Quick Attack, which became very fast and then he burst into electric bolts, slamming Regice.
“Jolteon!” yelled Shadow.
“Furret!” yelled Max.
“Metronome!” they yelled together.
They both got a Blast Burn that pulverized Registeel.
“Now!” yelled Shadow.
Max pressed a button on his PokéGear, and the infamous Snag Machine cloaked his left arm.
“Snag Balls!” yelled Max, “Go!”
He threw three Master “Snag” Balls at the Regis and caught them.
“Hm…” said Max with a smirk, “And to think Spike said he was stronger than everyone else…”
“You said what?” exclaimed Clay.
“You haven’t don half the work the rest of us have!” yelled Frost.
“Shut your mouths before I beat you two bird brains senseless!” screamed Spike.
“At least we HAVE brains to beat!” yelled Clay.
As they argued, Jolteon, Pikachu, and Furret each picked up a Master Ball and brought it to Max.
“Let’s get outta here,” said Ash.
“Agreed,” said Max.
They used Aerodactyl to fly to Pallet, where they dropped Ash and his Pikachu off. Then, the gang flew to the HQ…
Max was following Abad carrying the Master Balls which contained the Shadow Regis. They arrived at the vault, and Abad entered the code. The doors hissed as they slowly open, and they were greeted by all the legendaries residing with them; Celebi flew up to them.
“Here we go again,” said Max, “Regice, Regirock, Registeel, go!”
Once out of their Master Balls, Celebi purified them, and then Max took the Master Balls to Mewtwo, who obliterated them.
“Three more safe,” said Abad.
“And still plenty out there…” said Max.
They went to their rooms, and were about to settle in for the night. Then, the alarm rang. This was a different alarm; one that was in every room for people to push if they were in trouble.
Max rushed into the halls, Jay close behind. The panels on the walls showed arrows pointing to Shadow’s room.
The door was locked, but they weren't gonna let that stop them!
“Aggron!” yelled Max, “Metal Burst!”
Aggron decimated the door, and inside was Shadow, asleep and tossing and turning, screaming…she must’ve pressed the alarm in her sleep!
Jay rushed to her and grabbed her, shaking her to wake her up; she had broken into a sweat, and Jay said, “What? What did you see?”
“They’re at Eon Island!” she exclaimed in tears.
Abad and James ran in, followed by Ricky and Jason, all of them were concerned.
Max walked up to Abad, “They going after Latios and Latias…I don’t think Shadow should go with us, she’s a wreck…try to calm her down, me and Jay will go.”
“Be careful,” said Abad.
“Are you sure we should leave her?” asked Jay.
“Don’t worry!” said James, “We’ll handle her, but hurry! The LPC waits for no one!”
With that, in the dark and rain, Max and Jay set off towards the south on Aerodactyl, who at this point was tired. They saw the SS Tidal heading toward the island they were going to, and landed, where they were welcomed with open arms to help protect the Eon Pokémon.
