RE: Rumors & Speculation

Here's a theory I have for Dual Type moves.

The perfect example is Fire Punch.

Fire Punch deals damage, but when the opponent has the Flash Fire ability it takes no damage and gets a power boost. This seems strange to me, because even though the fire from the attack wouldn't deal damage, the punch still should.

It would therefore be Normal/Fire. It won't do as much damage if the opponent resists or is immune to fire, but the punch would still inflict some damage instead of nothing.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I agree . I think that the dual type moves can solves a lot of logical problems.
Like that bone attack that I dont remember its name but cubone uses it and it is a ground type move so it can't hit flying type yet how throwing a bone on a bird cannot affect it like throwing rock??
(Rock throw -that one I remembers)

And rotom.

Did none of you figure I'm obviously talking about the introductory games of the generation and not Platinum?

There was huge snow routes and snowy mountain areas, and the only Ice pokemon we encountered were Snover and Sneasel, neither of whom is actually primary Ice, and that was amazingly lame, yet I have never seen anyone complain about this observation, like it was perfectly fine there was Medichams, Gravelers, Machokes and stuff there instead lol..

I would have to agree except for the typing of Fire Punch, which I see being Fire/Fighting.

And if it were Fire/Fighting, that would bring up another interesting topic. Say a Fire/Fighting pokemon like Blaziken used it (but please not Fennekin's evo hahaha), would they get extra STAB damage for being both types? If the move was used on a Grass/Normal pokemon how would damage be calculated?

There are too many complications IMO for dual type attacks any time soon, aside from moves like Freeze Dry. I think if they really wanted to get around to it, GF could in a couple generations, but they will have to find a way to work around the confusion.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I agree with nightkeeper. For moves to actually have two types would be a nightmare (double STAB against a Pokémon with quadruple weakness). I think what "dual type moves" will actually be is either...

a) Moves of one type, like Freeze Dry, that will affect certain types differently

or

b) Moves that, similar to Curse, change effect depending on the user...giving say, a Hitmonchan or Machamp STAB when using Fire Punch (despite it still doing Fire-type damage)

Basically, what I'm getting at is that moves won't be truly Type1/Type2...rather it'll been a move-by-move basis that will make the effects appear so. Usually, at least I hope, to make a little bit more logical sense.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

This was found in the Italian teaser.

So, I guess that means you'll be able to see if your opponent has a Mega Stone....?

RE: Rumors & Speculation

In all screenshots the Mega Evolution is in progress. Do you think it will also be there before the evolution begins?

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I'm almost positive it only appears once the Pokémon is Mega Evolved...to help distinguish between the regular and Mega Pokémon.

Plus, I think I read something about how the developers want Mega Evolution to be something to keep player's on their toes as far as their opponent's options. So no, I don't think the symbol will always be present.

Edit: found it...

That almost confirms that you won't be able to see it. If it's true, I see in the future that pokemon with a combo of Frisk+Embargo (Incoming rise in the use of Gothitelle and Banette) or Pickpocket+Fake-out (Shiftry and Weavile just got a new job too) becoming scouts on teams everywhere lol. Both of those will shut down any possibility of mega evolving but the first strategy requires the Gothitelle or Banette to be faster than the opponent.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

Honestly, I have no idea.
The symbol was shown right in the middle of the Evolution.

I'm guessing the symbol is there to:

1. Let you know which one of your Pokemon is capable of Mega Evolving.

2. Show your opponent that your Pokemon can Mega Evolve

3. Just for looks?

RE: Rumors & Speculation

Hey, you guys remember that JP Pokemon X & Y trailer just put up recently?
I analyzed the Oorotto scene, and..
forest_by_rubberyparts-d6n9n4o.jpg
I analyzed this scene and have noticed these health and gender things. I believe it is possible for Oorotto to likely be more male than female, since all 4 are male, and all other horde battles with mostly one pokemon that have both genders have shown at least 2 of the other gender.
Also, the health indicates that they could have been hit by a water-type attack such as Surf by a pokemon of a lower level. Perhaps somewhere between 10 and 15 to keep Sudowoodo from fainting? Which would easily go unnoticed, since this was only shown for a split second, and the "not very effective" sound was drowned out by the "super effective" sound. They also did not show the following message saying whether it was super effective or not. Doing this makes Oorotto seem more mysterious, as well as making it slightly less. Not just that, but it can occassionally confuse people, making them "remember" that Sudowoodo is grass-type, despite it really being rock-type. Now, you could say they gave it grass-typing, but that would make it get normal damage. After Flareon's attack, it was pushed to red and the middle and far right Oorotto were pushed to red and the other two fainted.

[private]Took this part out; doesn't seem appropriate to have here. I'll send a PM about it:
"Also, could someone please tell me if I end up getting mean or anything? I'm kinda mad at my school because my ex died a while ago and i found out late like most did so he was gonna have a late funeral and I cant go or my school will expell me.. So, apologies in advance if I get all defensive for no reason and super angry or anything. I literally have nowhere to let out my anger. ^-^'"
Also, removed a reference to Serebii.

Hats off, guys... all of you. Now!

I can see a move like Embargo preventing a MegaEvo from happening in that battle, but I doubt moves like Thief or Knock Off will work, or abilities lick Pickpocket. Preventing a user from using a held item is different from that item being lost completely. I guess I'm just not sure if mega stones will meet the same criteria as other held items.

Item switching/removing moves do not work on Giratina holding the Griseous Orb, or Arceus holding a Plate. Basically, if removing the item would cause a mid-battle forme change, you can't remove it.
I would think Mega Stones will have the same immunities.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I agree dispite the fact that giratina and arceus changes before battle and mega pokemons changes during battle.
They also might change the machanic in the game for removed items so they will not disappear after the battle ends.
Like in online battles through wifi.

But the whole idea is to get it off BEFORE they use it. So really I don't see any problem with knock off or thief or trick not working. And thanks for reminding me about thief and knock off. Since there's also trick, any pokemon with access to those moves and frisk or pickpocket and fake out are going to be valuable.

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I would like to speculate we can get Dodrio, Lickilicky, Ditto, and Swanna. While I am at it why not just say they can get mega evolutions? :D My reasoning for those is you can see them on the japanese anime commercial where Ash is running to the prism tower. (well actually lickitung and douo but who cares?)

I really don't see how ditto could be further improved on to be justified to get a Mega. It's just a blob that will forever remain a blob used for reproduction.

That part was just a joke besides it could grow legs. :p Anyways what about instead of a dodrio mega an actual evolution Doquatro or Doduatro?

RE: Rumors & Speculation

I wonder how many people are going to be expecting a Z-version and aren't gonna buy X/Y because they think Z is going to exist when Masuda said they don't plan on making a Z version.
