I tend to agree w/ you on most of the points but tbh most of the time you can just sell your big money cards and not lose any money in net.
Also i am pretty bad when it comes to merchandise, i spend more on that than the cards :p

Guys, he's on to something. If I were you I'd look at this and think twice about posting in here.
And this is my point. This could have been a very informative, interesting article. It could have covered the financial side of the game, pointing out the most expensive cards and how to play competitively on a budget. But, it came off as an unfortunately bitter anti-Pokemon rant. Because in some ways, he's right. Depending on what you buy and how competitive you are, any hobby can be fairly expensive. But spinning the writing as a hate speech against the Pokemon company for trying to make money wasn't the way to go.

What happened to you Rikko, you've changed man, you've changed... Anyways I will admit I've spent a lot on Pokemon, but guess what, I don't have to now! Haven't bought a pack in about 5 months, because I can trade for what I want. I don't really care. Pokemon brings me happiness, before I started playing I was depressed, but now, all is well bro. Any of you that been to a tournament knows it is worth the spendings.

You all bring up very impressive points. I mean, I only read the first two pages because you people in general just bore me, but I get the jist of what you're saying. Now, my counter.

In perspective to the breakdown of society, you aren't getting the point at all. You could previously have used the same resource (money, which would then be nonexistant) for food. Or ammunition. Or something useful. But now you have a shiny slip of cardboard. A poor investment, in essence.

Many of you disclaim subliminal messaging. Keep denying it. Let me write you some ads and sell you miracle products. A fool and his money are soon parted.

However, you've all effectively proven my last point. What are you thinking when you buy those cards. Not, "What else could I spend this money on?" No. You think what a "deal" you're getting.

And no, not all hobbies cost money. Not even close. I use my hands for planting my trees. But never spent any money. Anything that you need your hands for. And oh, yes, I'm sure you've all won SO much money playing pokemon, yes? Total it up in your head. Or on a scratch piece of paper. What have your costs been? Gas.... Cards... Supplies.. And travel expenses. Thousands. The people who can say that pokemon has payed off at all are few and far between.

Let's see what I've saved since I stopped playing. Now, I could of had many slips of cardboard over that time, or this new machine that computes, connects, and thinks on its own. Yes, you could have them or electronics that would allow you to increase your knowledge and entertain you with little expense. This is a good investment. I can make money with my computation machine. You can't with your pokemon cards. Trump card, my trick. Irony is a fickle friend.

I don't spend more than $25 a year on pokemon. I have traded for the cards I have needed for the past like 6-7 sets lol. But I will need to start going to prereleases when the rotation comes.

Excellent, Meaty. Now, tell me, why? Just make sure you go into details. I like being amused. Haha, now I'm so glad I'm reading the last few pages.

PikachewTofu - I am not your son. And you don't know me. So I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't pretend these things.

kashmaster - A DVD can expand my knowledge and has a purpose. It is useful. Your clothese COVER YOU. Unless you go nudist, which I don't want to know if you do/are, then you need clothing to integrate into society. And for your own protection. I won't run into a fire-fight without a vest on. You wouldn't run into a fire without fire-retardant clothing on. Your survival depends on your clothing a lot, so it is YOUR argument that isn't valid here.

lordy jones - Oh, thank you. Describe in detail why you hate me. Is it for pointing things out you don't want to hear? Exposing you to a truth that you've always pushed to the back-burner?

DNA - I appreciate that. I'm glad you've got a logical head on your shoulders. :)

How much do you wanna bet you're gonna post a few years later saying you're playing Pokemon again.

The points you keep missing are simple.

a) it's a business.
b) it's fun.

You might say "Pokemon is a business but it steals money and blah blah blah I act like I'm from the bloodline of a Greek philosopher blah blah blah big words to describe false statements about children's card game blah blah blah I act like I'm gonna change pokemon forever blah blah blah im probably gonna come back blah blah blah" HOWEVER theres so much more that you could say the same thing.

Action figures will have no value if society breaks down. They have colorful boxes and make you buy more. I could spend money on so much more.

What else could you insert in that world slot for action figures. Gee, a better question could be what COULDN'T you insert in that world slot instead of action figures.

I know you're not gonna give it up, and I'm never gonna be "right" since you never do admit you're wrong, but I know some day people will laugh their heads off at this thread once it becomes showed in the amazing threads sticky, and I'll be in it. Whatchugonnadoaboutit.

wowninjad.

OK epic fail at the reply to Pikachewtofu. I thought you were smarter too :/

Konter, I can plant things for free. Spend less thann 10 cents for some seed and put in something you haven't heard about, it would seem. Hard work. Elbow grease. I can keep an income for many years with just a bag of seed.

About LJ, his hating you might have something to do with your constant complaining and invalid points, and dumb thread just to point out something untrue because you're bitter. Just a thought.
Everything that's been said can only be repeated. This isn't logical.

Pikachu6319 - Increase your standard of living. Put it in the bank. Save it for an occasion. Not blow it on Pokemon! That's what you do with extra money.

Hey Rikko145 wanna buy my Psyduck? I'm sure you could find a use for it *cough* chew up and throw it at judges*cough*

No but in all seriouseness I offer my counter. First of all I think all of us here pretty much disagree with the part of society breaking down. Lets face it, it NOT going to happen.

As for the subliminal messaging, as it has been stated before, it is used to target their main audience, which is kids between the ages of 6-12. I mean really who in the right mind would buy tons of booster pack just because some guy on tv promises that you'll be the best if you do?!

As for what we think when we buy the cards (well at least I think this when buy cards), is "Wow! I just got this cool card!! Maybe I can tech this into my deck! I'm incredibly happy about this!" Why would we spend our money on something else if the Pokemon TCG is what makes us happy? If it is what makes us happy then it should definitely be something we waste our money on. Really it's common sense.

As for how much money some people make, including myself, can be quite a bit! Some people, including myself, buy booster boxes so that we can sell the singles and make more money than what the price of the booster box. I remember when the FRLG set came out I got my parents to buy me 2 booster boxes of the set and very fortunately I got a Charizard Ex (I know, how luck am I?:p) and that alone pretty much covered the cost of the boxes and I still had got some other EX's that I sold for profit. So the bottom line is that you can make profit form this.

So please Rikko145 if you have anther counter please share it with me because I'll enjoy finding flaws in you ideas! :p

Any reason you're making new replies to reply to people that have posted way before? Gee, maybe it's because we have a point. NO WAY!

Oh yea, in complete agreement with 6D.

BTW I wonder how you got into planting trees. Maybe it was because you like turtwigs so much. Pokemon did SOMETHING for you.

I don't think many people on this thread are getting the point.
A.) I realize it's a business. But I don't see why you'd all buy into it like cows that walk into a financial slaughterhouse. (Perhaps not a 'slaughterhouse' but you get my point.) It's very bad for your financial standing.
B.) I don't care if it's fun. What's the point there? You can have fun without spending any money at all. Go for a walk in the woods. Go hunting. Go fishing. Argue with people who can't understand simple logic. However you get your kicks, you don't need to spend money.

And I'd like to take a bow for all those people who have that special psyduck card as their avatar. Glad to have a fan club.

Cris, you're very reliable. I can always count on you to miss the point. It's not about what your reason is solely. It's about what you think the reason is. It's not because "Oooh! That man said I'll do well!" No, I garuntee many people think, "Oh, I did see that one card that I liked. Oh, and that other one. Maybe I'll go buy just a few packs." But then comes that "Buy a little more. Just a little." technique.

Going for a walk isn't long hard fun with other people. It's not a hobby. Hunting and Fishing is killing animals. One tree goes a long way for a lot of Pokemon cards. Arguing with people is fun, however it's not fun when you yourself dont understand simple logic.

Most kids aren't like you. They cant have fun and make friends by doing those things. And even that costs money.

Oh, how you make me laugh!!! I started planting trees because of turtwig!? That's just assumptious. I got into planting trees because even as a child I had the gears turning. "These take a while to produce something worth making money from, so if I plant them now, by the time I can legally sell them, I'll have something to sell!" It would seem you started thinking when your parents said, "You're thirty-five. Now you need to move out." Or are those just future plans of yours?

spending money on guns, ammunition, fishing reels, lure, bait, licenses to hunt which also I believe cost money..either way you splice it you spend money, unless you think every household in America has rifles, bait and tackle box etc thrown in for free upon house completion.

On topic:

I spend alot of money on pokemon, probably more than I "should", but I pay my bills and still afford a cell phone, rent, food out when I want, and Just bought a car and got my temps, plates, etc All while playing pokemon and spending money. I also bought (preordered and Paid Off) a 3ds..All on my own, with no help from friends, parents etc. In your post-apocalyptic future you for some reason seem to think is inevitable your point is valid..but does that mean we should all spend our money instead on radiation bunkers and stockup on food/provisions/weapons for the coming nuclear holocaust...? I think not. Pokemon is a GAME it's FUN..perhaps if you weren't flinging psyduck cards at judges you would still see that and not be bitter about being banned and trying to take your personal anger out on Flaming the tcg itself.

What your saying doesn't make sense! What do you mean "who cares if it is fun"? Everyone cares! You want to spend your money on something that is fun NOT something that is partially fun or boring. Take for example this scenario it's just like what you are arguing:

It's a weekend and you have to options on what you can spend your time doing:
1. Go to the movies and have a good time with friends
2. Stay home and read a book

Yes, given you may enjoy doing both but you probably want to go to the movies with your friends. Why you may ask? Because it is more fun than the other even though you enjoy both. People spend their money on the Pokemon TCG because it is more fun than their other hobbies. Heck I enjoy fishing, but I spend more money on the Pokemon TCG because IMO it is much more fun.

Oh lordy! We're killing animals! Man, I wonder where the world gets its meat. You make it sound like it grows on bushes. And me and my buds go out hunting together. But you're right, I could never understand logic. The $18 I spent on arrow tips could never be replaced by the two hundred I sell deer for. *COUGH*SARCASM*COUGH*

and perhaps you skipped most of my post because I'm right? hm...

on topic:

If you like hunting, SURE go have fun hunting and killing animals..but others have fun by playing pokemon..or watching soap operas, or by playing video games, all of those things Cost money in some form or another..or do you think the only hobbies that should be allowed to exist are those you can sell things from and make money?

because..Guess What!! you can do that playing pokemon..Buy an uxie x for 30 dollars last season..sell it for 90 during its peak this season..wow you just tripled your money..fancy that happening

Jeez you make it sound as if everyone had no self control! Like I said I go out to buy some booster packs every once in a while but I know when enough is enough. It's not like everyone is going to say "I'll buy more, just a little more." Most people have self control and won't buy booster packs like crazy because they know when enough is enough.

BTW, don't flatter yourself with the Psyduck thing, it's not your fanclub it's just a little joke jeez.
