RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 8

Been a long time coming, but here's Chapter 9! Feels like Glittering Cave took forever. x.x; But now we have our fossil and we're back on the road. Read and enjoy! :3

Chapter 9: Ambrette and Team Flare

I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed. Without an alarm, I'd simply slept as late as my body felt it needed, and based on the position of the sun in the sky, I guess I really had needed the rest. I ate a few leftover berries for breakfast, shared the remainder with my Pokémon, then changed my clothes and prepared to pack up camp. It was close to noon by the time we set out, but sometimes a lazy morning is good for relaxing.

I laid a hand on Ivysaur's grave before leaving, giving him a final goodbye, then turned around and followed the southern route through the caves. Along the way, I began training Snorunt a bit, letting the little guy watch some battles to gain experience. I was careful not to let her get into too much danger, but, like the others, she began to grow and become part of the team. I guess life goes on.

On the other side of the mountains, I ran into Sino and whats-his-face again, the professor's assistants. They upgraded my Pokédex to allow for the "Coastal" expansion, then left as fast as they came. Good thing too, since my transmitter started buzzing. Since my party was full again, I didn't get a good look at it, but it appeared to be some kind of dumb rodent thing. Oh well, probably just as well that it went directly to my PC anyway.

My Pokémon and I walked and trained through the rain and mud, following the path to get to the town, defeating the few trainers we found along the way. We'd just about made it to the next town when Ash came running up behind me. He gave me directions on how to get from here to Ambrette Town (thanks brat, but I already have a map you know...), but his main purpose seemed to be to get me to come along with him to the Fossil Lab to learn about Fossils. He seemed convinced they might have something to do with the mega evolution stones, so I shrugged and agreed to meet him there, then left him along to go rest my Pokémon at the Pokémon Center and dry off a bit from the rain.

Once the rain stopped, I decided to make my way to the fossil lab; if Ash was right, we could get some valuable information about mega evolution there. Unfortunately, the scientist we met knew nothing about mega evolution, but he was really excited about fossils (I guess I should have expected that...) and invited us to go visit the excavation site with the promise that one of the assistants in the nearby cave might be able to help us. It felt like being sent on a wild goose chase, but I set off in the direction of the caves.

Route 9, the way to the fossil caves, was far from the ordinary route, however! The path was covered with spikes and stones, requiring that anyway who travels that way must ride on a Pokémon to cross safely. I had some experience riding a Rhyhorn in preparation for my role as the daughter of a Rhyhorn racer, but nothing could have prepared me for the jolting, bouncing gate of riding on a thick layer of rocks and protrusions. There were even wild Pokémon along the path! At one point I was forced to stop in the middle of a battle to receive a Pokémon from my transporter, some kind of weird blue frog thing. I already had a cute blue frog, so I let the Pokéball be zipped away to the PC with no worries.

With a numb butt and sand in my hair, I finally arrived at Glittering Caves. A nearby ranger offered to heal my Pokémon, and a gratefully accepted, worried (perhaps even paranoid) about my Pokémons' health, especially little Snorunt who seemed so frail. Rested and ready, it was time to head into the caves, which were indeed beautiful and glittering. For caves, anyway. The outermost passageways were mostly natural, but deeper in, the caves had been enlarged and used for mining.

Standing next to the carts was one of the dumbest-looking dorks I'd ever seen in my whole life. Dressed in a ridiculous orange suit with skintight pants and humongous shades (yes, sunglasses, in a cave). I was about to write him off entirely as a loser and not worth my time, until he announced that he was a part of Team Flare and challenged me to a Pokémon battle. Team Flare, hadn't Giovanni mentioned them? I couldn't imagine Giovanni being concerned about a bunch of punk kids with bad fashion sense, but regardless, I decided to follow his orders and see what I could find out. Fortunately, the guy was a piss poor battler, though he refused to tell me much. He did, however, slip that there were more members of Team Flair elsewhere in the cave, so I snuck forward, hoping to catch them by surprise to see if I could eavesdrop on anything worthwhile.

Unfortunately, this ended up being something of a bust. I'd just spotted another Team Flare member (those orange suits would stand out anywhere) when my transporter started buzzing, and because I was pressed up against the wall, it made a huge rattling noise against the stone. I barely had time to acknowledge my receipt of the Pokémon from HQ (some yellow bug, ew, no) before I was challenged by the grunt, a female this time with pigtails that just screamed "I've never seen a real hair stylist in my life." She was about as incompetent as the other dweeb and I quickly made my way further up through the caves, striving to stay quiet this time.

Eventually the way was blocked by a pair of grunts, male and female. I paused and listened to their conversation, overhearing their plans to kidnap the fossil scientist and sell the Pokémon fossils to make a bunch of cash. I rolled my eyes. These little criminal organizations had been popping up all over the various regions for the past few years (all copycats of Team Rocket, of course, no one is ever original anymore), and this team seemed to have really hit a new low. I couldn't believe Giovanni was worried about them at all; I could eat them myself for breakfast!

I was about to stroll forward and challenge them to a Pokémon battle on my own, when Ash suddenly appeared behind me in the cave and offered to take them on together. I swallowed my own disdain and agreed to team up with the twerp, figuring that at least my Pokémon would take less of a beating if one of his was around to take all the punches. Together we made quick work out of them, leaving them whining pitifully about how they just wanted to make a buck. I wanted to slap some sense into them, but since the derp was there, I had to be on my best behaviour, so instead we headed through the caves together to find the lost scientist.

Fine him we did, lost in his work in a side passageway towards the back of the caves. The dork was so engrossed in his pretty shiny rocks that he hadn't even noticed Team Flare's arrival. I shook my head, wondering what it was like to be so naive and incompetent, though I quickly grew fond of him when he offered me a fossil. He even said he could revive the fossil back in the labs. I couldn't believe it; I could actually own a powerful prehistoric Pokémon! Wouldn't Giovanni be pleased?

The scientist had two fossils with him, a jaw fossil and a sail fossil. Ash let me pick which one I wished for, so I decided to snack the jaw. A jaw fossil would surely revive into a strong Pokémon, and a sail fossil would, what, revive into a boat? Ash took the other and we went our separate ways, heading back to Ambrette. I made use of the Ranger's services to heal up my Pokémon again before braving the rocky passageway of Route 9, and once back in town, headed for the Pokémon Center. It was tempting to head to the fossil lab right away and restore my new Pokémon, but I was hungry and my feet hurt. We could all use a break.

Once in the center, I released my Pokémon from their balls and... what in the world is that? What happened to my gorgeous Furfrou?! In its place was a rangy mutt with shaggy hair, nothing at all like the beautiful, groomed princess I had back in Lumiose. I sighed. The groomers were all back in Lumiose, meaning I was stuck with this shaggy beast. If I'd had James as my assistant, and all my equipment, I could have done something about it myself, but... no, I was a regular Pokémon trainer on my own now. Vowing to regroom Furfrou back in Lumiose, I let her eat to her heart's content and then sent her off to the PC. I'd need free space for my new fossil Pokémon anyway.

Rested and refreshed, I headed back out of the Center and off to the fossil lab. the kooky old scientist was there, putzing about, but he remembered me and offered to restore my fossil right away. I quickly handed it over and soon received my new Pokémon, a magnificent Tyrunt! It was small, but powerful-looking, and, according to my Pokédex, it was part Dragon-type! I hugged little Tyrunt and then returned him to his Pokéball, skipping out to the lab as I made my way to the aquarium to head out of this little town and back on my path to the next gym.

Can you tell I like keeping my Pokémon at even levels? >_>

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

I played most of this before my trip, picking up this evening right after the double battle with Team Flare. As such, I forgot all the Team Flare text from earlier, so I kind of made it up as I went along. -_-; I think it worked out more or less okay, though.

In case you couldn't guess from their descriptions, the Pokémon I got on Route 9 and in Glittering Cave were Toxicroak and Combee. I also did pick up an Old Amber in Glittering Cave (wasn't even looking for it, just happened to come across it in my 2nd rock smash), but I plan on saving it in case of emergency (I can't really see Jessie with an Aerodactyl anyway, especially after it's appearance in the first season anime).

I had originally planned Jessie's scene of getting rid of Furfrou to be a bit more mean-spirited, but since Jessie has come to have more "respect" for her Pokémon with Ivysaur's death, it seemed cruel (and a bit "too soon") to have her acting that way towards a Pokémon the very next day, so I toned that scene down a bit. I hope Jessie's personality still manages to come across, even though the scene is less mean (and hilarious) than originally intended. I guess that's what happens when I get death sooner than I thought I would. :<

Should have another chapter out in a couple days or so. I had a bit of a lag in playing after coming back from my vacation, but I should be back on track now.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 9

I can't wait for the next chapter! I like how you completely mocked Team Flare

*winks*

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 9

Does the T.Flare lady actually says that!? One more for the weird and nonsense NPC sentences!
"T.Flare - sponsored by Karl Lagerfeld, now closer to you - in a supermarket" (or PkMart)

Your sail joke actually gave me an idea for another T.Rocket bussiness and perhaps the reason for T.F wanting fossils: Amaura's and Aurorus' sails can be sold as veils or skirts for girls! (yes, the Dark side is strong in me) :p

It was a good chapter. Flare's grunts can't match a Rocket's veteran such as Jessie. U_U

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 9

Feels like it's been a while since I've updated, but I've been busy. x.x; In any event, enjoy Chapter 10. :)

Chapter 10: The Cyllage City Gym and Gym Leader... Reggie?

Our first stop on the way of Ambrette was the Ambrette Aquarium, a large, multi-story building that held all sorts of Water-type Pokémon in various habitats. On the lower level, I stopped to inspect a beautiful, large, gold Magikarp statue (can you imagine how much that thing must be worth?!) and some random guy gave me a fishing rod. I guess it'll come in handy if I ever get hungry.

Once out the Aquarium, I was back on Route 8, this time along the coast. I enjoyed watching along the sandy beach, smelling the sea and feeling the breeze on my skin. When some weird girl in a swimsuit came up to me, I ignored her first, but she persisted in getting my attention, handing me a dowsing rod that she said I could use to find treasure. Wait, treasure? Woohoo! With reckless abandon, I started running around the beach, relentlessly hunting for dropped treasure. I ended up catching a good haul of things to sell and useful items too, finally taking a break to have a beach picnic with my Pokémon for lunch. Once back on the road, it wasn't long before we came across some trainers, but only a few, and they were relatively easy. It wasn't long before we hit Cyllage City!

Cyllage was small, especially compared to some cities like Lumiose, but it was nice next to the beach, and there were lots of cute shops. I stumbled into a bike shop on accident, and, to my surprise, I was their 10,001st customer, so I won a free bike! I chose a yellow one and immediately started riding around town, reliving the glory days of my time in the bike gang in Kanto. While I was riding around, I happened to find a super cute, little boutique, so of course I just had to pop in and buy myself some new clothes. After all, I saved a tonne of money by getting that bike for free, so why not splurge on myself for a bit? I bought a cute halter top and shorts for the beach, with some leggings and these cute purple shoes that I just went crazy over.

After I finished looking around at the stores and houses, I figured it was time to get down to business. I knew there was a Gym here and that I'd have to beat it before I could move on. Someone in town had mentioned the Gym was up on the hill, so I headed in that direction on my bike, almost hitting a man who was stupid enough to stand in the middle of the road. He was nice enough, though, greeting me and complimenting me on my bicycling skills. He told me about how he won the bike race earlier but would have loved to see me compete, and then gave me an HM, explaining that I would need the gym badge from the Cyllage Gym to use it out of battle. "Any other day, that might have been me you'd be battling up there," he added with a wink. "I'm off on a vacation for now, though, so you'll have to make do with my replacement. He managed to beat me before, so he can't be all too bad." With a shrug, he wandered back down the path, whistling a tune, and I continued on my way to the gym.

The Gym itself was built into the mountain, a huge, manmade cavern with support struts along the walls and a huge climbing tower in the middle. I groaned when I learned that I would be expected to climb up to the top; I'm a Pokémon Trainer, not some... physical climber person. I didn't have much of a choice, though, so I rolled up my metaphorical sleeves and began the climb, battling trainers as I went. Since this was a Rock-type Gym, I used my Pokémon to their strength, making use of Water- and Grass-type moves. I felt a sudden stab of pain and the thought of how useful Ivysaur would have been; Kirlia's Magical Leaf attack just wasn't the same.

Eventually, panting and sweaty, I made it to the top. There, at the apex of the climbing rock was... a regular Pokémon trainer kid? I had expected some dressed up, gimmicky rock-type guy, but this kid looked more like the kind of trainer I'd find and beat on any old route. I remembered the guy I had met out on the road, with the gems in his hair and the caribiners all over his clothes; without a doubt he was the gimmicky fop that I'd expected, and this trainer was his temporary replacement. And he had said the kid beat him, too. Well, let's see how good he is.

The traine- no, the Gym Leader stuck out a hand to greet me as I stepped up. "Hey, I'm Reggie!" He said with a smile. "Oh, hold on a moment." His smile faltered for a moment as he dug around in his pockets, searching for something. he finally pulled out a pair of battered notecards, reading off of them.

"I've been waiting in eager anticipation!" Reggie continued, his enthusiasm falling a bit flat when you considered he was reading from a script. "What have I been waiting for? For a worthy challenger to appear! It's quite an achievement to have climbed all the way up here. Very impressive, actually! I have a feeling that our battle will turn out to be worth the wait! I hope you'll show me that your skill as a Trainer surpasses even mine." He rolled his eyes before sticking the cards back in his pocket. "You ready for the battle?"

I opened up with Snorunt, and he started with a... cute blue dinosaur-looking thing. What is that? I pulled out my Pokédex and learned that it was an Amaura, a Rock/Ice type Pokémon. Snorunt's attacks wouldn't be doing much here, so I quickly swapped him out for Lucario, who got Paralyzed on the swap. She easily withstood the Amaura's take down, then countered with a OHKO Force Palm. Reggie's next Pokémon was a Tyrunt, and I'd learned their strengths and weaknesses while training my own, so I quickly swapped back to Snorunt. Unfortunately, Snorunt was hit by a lucky critical Stomp and took a bit too much damage to continue, so I swapped to Kirlia. One the swap, Kirlia got blasted with a powerful Rock Tomb, barely leaving her standing. With a wince, I quickly switched into Frogadier, who took the coming Stomp attack like a bro, countering with a Water Pulse. The next Rock Tomb hurt him pretty badly though, forcing me to switch again, this time bringing Lucario back out. She was still Paralyzed, but should be strong enough to withstand the coming hits long enough for me to get in a few hits of my own for once. One more Force Palm, and Tyrunt was out for the count. I was the victor!

Reggie cursed under with breath as he withdrew Tyrunt, then flashed me a wry grin. "If I had my own Pokémon here instead of needing to using these two that Grant left me, you'd be paste. Still, you did pretty good, so I guess you deserve one of these." He tosses me a badge that looked like a lightning bolt made out of rocks: the Cliff Badge.

Reggie fumbled in his pocket for another sets of notes. "With the Cliff Badge in your grasp, you should have no issues working together with Pokémon up to level 40. This even applies to Pokémon you've received from other people in trade. And tha... oh, yeah, I almost forgot to give you the TM!" He fished around in another pocket and handed me a disk. "This is one of Grant's favourite moves, Rock Tomb. It's not a bad move, decent accuracy and always lowers your opponent's speed if it's hit."

I thanked Reggie and moved past him towards the exit with a deep sigh of relief. For a few moments there I was really worried, but my Pokémon held together. Once outside the Gym, I quickly jumped back on my bike and headed over to the Pokémon Center. With our new badge in hand, I thought my Pokémon and I would celebrate by spending a nice night at the hotel in town, but when I was walking towards the building, I happened to catch a glimpse of "Mr. Bonding" in one of the windows. He caught my eye and gave me an exaggerated wink, so I quickly turned on my heels and head back to the PC. Oh well; money saved on the hotel was more money I could spend on clothes.

As I lied in bed, flipping through a magazine before falling asleep, I felt my transporter vibrate in my bag next to me. Pleased that the stupid thing sent me a Pokémon at a good time, for a change, I quickly pulled it out and got a quick view of my new Pokémon before it flew away to the PC: a cute little green thing with floppy leaves coming out of its head. It looked young, but it might be a good addition to the team. Thinking about possible uses for it, I drifted off to sleep.

Braixen - Lv. 23
Lucario - Lv. 25

Frogadier - Lv. 25

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

The Pokémon Jessie receives at the end of the chapter is actually my WT from Route 10; it just felt more fitting story-wise to have her receive it now at the end of a day rather than ending the chapter at a weird point when she's just started on the road again. The Pokémon in question is Petilil, obviously someone's MM reject, Lv. 1, Chlorophyll, Relaxed nature. I might train it up as a replacement Grass-type for Ivysaur, though I won't be getting a Sun Stone for a while; I'd probably level it up enough to then evolve. Would like to hear opinions. :3

Anyone care to guess why I chose yellow for Jessie's bike colour?

Because it was her VG debut, of course! :D

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 9

I just caught up with chapter 9.

a sail fossil would, what, revive into a boat?
That really made me laugh, haha.

Tyrunt is definitely my favourite of the two, although I like like Amaura too! Tyrunt has that cute face & eyes, though. :p

I'm still sad Ivysaur isn't there anymore. ;-;

Great chapter! I'll catch up with 10 soon. For now: Off to bed. It's almost 2 AM!

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 10

Since Drohn just caught up with chapter 9, I'll use the spoiler tag!

I guess it'll come in handy if I ever get hungry.
Just remember: NOT Magikarp!!

I felt a sudden stab of pain and the thought of how useful Ivysaur would have been
Good, good. Pain leeds to fear and "fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering"...Muahahahaha, strike your opponents with absolute power!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7c-n4k3XrU

I thanked Reggie and moved past him towards the exit with a deep sigh of relief.
I would snatch his papers, throw then off the cliff and release a devious smile.

The Pokémon in question is Petilil
Oh, I was thinking it was an Oddish.
You can train it from time to time or, if the journey ahead asks for a Grass-type Pokémon, use it and replace the one that will be less needed.

Anyone care to guess why I chose yellow for Jessie's bike colour?
Because it was her VG debut, of course! :D
The best thing in Yellow was the trio's debut. How I miss them.

It's kind of funny, but the VG was the last aspect of Pokémon I got into (TCG first, then anime, then games) and Yellow was the game I got... so I just assumed that the games were related to the anime. :D Imagine my disappointment later when I got Red and the TR characters in the game were just some faceless mooks. Sadface. :<

Yellow also my first ever pokemon game. And I don't like Eevee too much since. I used to hate when people said Blue is best pokemon game in Gen 1. Yellow is the best, you can pikachu + all starters there.

Back to topic.. I read everything thena. I did. I'm not into Jessie and James romantic shipping. James is Jessie's partner, not lover. I can imagine they are married, but not in romantic way.

I got into Pokémon with the anime and Blue was released a couple fo months after the series so it just felt natural, though I was dissapointed when not seeing TR (not so much about not having Pikachu as a starter). Oh yeah, Nurse Joy and Officer jenny were also there and were great.
I didn't understood who "Mr. Bonding" was but after some thinking I concluded that it could only be James since Jessie wouldn't run from a hotel without a good reason. Thanks to lovandra, I have the confirmation. I agree with her when saying that there's a task at hand and also because it could compromise the mission...I was going to say that despite we knowing James is not the kind girl he pretends to be, you shouldn't do it because it would perhaps lead to a slip and also because from the outside they would come out as lesbians but now that I think of it you could have James & Jessie portray a lesbian couple. Hell, if you want to you can create a post-canon ending with Jessie getting together with Diantha, Malva or one of the Flare girls.
...
All of this to say that let your imagination drive you! :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 10

Petilil is a nice Pokemon, but doesn't learn a decent grass move until 35, Energy Ball. But you can TM that. However, Leaf Storm isn't learned until 46, which may be a big help in tougher battle but Energy Ball just may get you through fine. A must have move that she should learn is Giga Drain, at level 26.

I'd evolve it around 26 or 35. It's frail though, and at levels 30+ many Pokémon are fully evolved, could be risky.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 10

If you look in earlier chapters, Mr. Bonding is revealed to be "Fletchling", a rather perverted furry who tries to get Jessie alone to teach her "O-Powers". Jessie is rightly skeeved out by this, and avoids him as much as possible.

As far as future story goes, I don't plan on shipping Jessie with James or anyone, at least not right now. The scene with James in the Parfum Palace was done as it was because that's how the scene is in the game, and I already talked about my reasonings for playing the scene like I did at the time.

After Kalos is done (whether it ends in success or failure), I plan to have Jessie head out to Sinnoh to tackle Team Galactic; at some point I should (hopefully) be receiving the copy of Platinum that I won from the SSC, and I want to play through that again, so I'll be doing so as Jessie. It's been a while since I played Gen 4, so it should be a lot of fun. :D

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 10

Oooooh...guess I was wrong. The good thing is now I have a reason to go read all the chapters in a row!

Also a great options - no strings!

So...you'll leave the freaks of Flare to "see" the freaks of Galactic?
The main good thing I can come up to support your travel to Sinnoh is Barry - I can't wait for Jessie to express her opinion about him" =P Just kidding, it's a great plan.

Meanwhile, I have to continue James' perspective, and then I may have James go to Hoenn. Or Sinnoh, but I'm unsure Dx

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 10

Chapter 11 is here! Rejoice!

Chapter 11: Geosenge, Lucarios, and Blood

The next morning, I headed back on the path, following Route 10 north. According to my map, the next town on the way would be Geosenge, a somewhat touristy town that lured in travelers with... a bunch of rocks. What a wonderful place to visit. However, I didn't have much of a choice, since I'd need to pass through there to get to the next gym, so I was on my way.

The journey there was short but pleasant, filled with blooming flowers and trainers to battle. The rock formations start just south of the town, and a few Team Flare members are lingering about. One of them remembered me from Glittering Cave, which was an equal measure of flattery and annoyance. As I kicked his ass, I couldn't help but wonder if that's how the twerps felt whenever they saw James and I arrive somewhere...

A few other grunts were loitering in the town, and I couldn't help but feel like there were too many for it to be a coincidence. Might they have a hideout nearby? I managed to track on off to a path on the west side of town, but I was interrupted by the arrival of Ash, nosing around and asking me if Team Flare was around. Why the hell does he care? I sent him on his way, but he'd taken up too much of my time and the trail was cold; the path the grunt had taken lead only to a dead end and there were no secrets for me.

The exorbitant prices of the local hotel would have been enough to keep me away even if I hadn't been spooked by the sudden appearance of Mr. Bonding from behind a column, so I opted to keep pressing on, stopping only for a quick bite at the local Pokémon Center.

As I was about to leave the town, I was once again assaulted by that rollerblading Gym Leader and her duo of Lucario. This time, she challenged me to a battle, and I happily accepted, eager to test my mettle against another Gym Trainer.

Her Lucarios were tough, much tougher than I expected and I quickly felt my control slipping even as the battle just began to unfold. A single hit from her first Lucario sent my Kirlia sprawling and I quickly switched out for Braixen, hoping the stronger Fox Pokémon could hold its own against Lucario's onslaughts. She got in a good few hits until a critical Power-Up Punch caught her by surprise, blasting her away from the battle and into a nearby rock.

"Braixen!" I resisted the urge to run over to her, shutting my eyes against my tears. She wasn't moving. I'd been in enough battles by now to know what that meant, but I couldn't afford to break down now, I had to keep fighting.

I sent out Frogadier, who quickly took care of the remaining health of the first Lucario, knocking it out with a Water Pulse. I was beginning to regain my confidence watching Frogadier battle soundly against the remaining Lucario. It was getting down on health, and I told Frogadier to finish it off with a Quick Attack. Unfortunately, the Lucario was sturdier than I thought and it managed to withstand the attack, rebounding with a Power-Up Punch. Frogadier didn't know what hit him.

Tears were streaming unchecked down my face as I finally sent my own Lucario out to knock-out Korrina's last Pokémon, restraining myself from killing her partner as she had so callously done to two of mine.

"Wh-what?!" Korrina exclaimed after the battle was over. "Not even my ultra-powerful Lucario duo could stand up to you?!"

I lowered my head as I recalled Lucario, speaking more to myself than to her. "It was not a price I wanted to pay."

She cocked her head as if processing the meaning of my words, and I could see the wheels spinning in her head. "OK! Now I get it!" She smiled widely. "I see why Lucario likes you so much! So! Do you remember I'm the Gym Leader in Shalour City? Once you get past the cave just beyond here, you'll be there, so stop by and say hello!" Without another word she was up on her skates and blasting off. I didn't even know if she noticed that she'd killed my Pokémon instead of just knocking them out. Such a worthless trainer. And they gave her a gym!

With a heavy heart, I checked on both Braixen and Frogadier, closing their eyelids and withdrawing their bodies back to their Pokéballs. With the passage now re-opened between Cyllage and Route 7, it wouldn't be a long journey to travel back to Ivysaur's grave, so I decided to head back there, walking slowly and avoiding the gaze of other trainers.

As I was traveling, I felt the transmitter buzzing in my pocket. It felt like a cruel joke. I decided to take a short rest and sat down on the sand on the western side of Cyllage to receive my Pokémon, a young Skarmory. Whoever made the transferring software must have some way of knowing that two of the Pokéballs I carried on my belt were deceased, since Skarmory stayed with me instead of disappearing to the PC. I didn't even have the strength to even lift my hand and return it to its Pokéball so I just let it wander through the sand, pecking at shells.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked up into the face of the young Gym Leader from Cyllage; not the one I'd faced and won a badge from, the one I'd met on the path on my way there who gave me the HM. "I don't think I introduced myself properly to you before. My name is Grant."

"I thought you were going on vacation?"

He gave me a lopsided grin. "I somehow haven't managed to get out of town, yet. One thing or another keeps popping up and..." he shrugged. "I was actually about to head south to Ambrette before continuing on to Lumiose, but I saw you sitting here and you looked like you needed a friend."

I turned my face away, avoiding his pity. "Well, I did just lose two of mine."

He winced and his hand on my shoulder gripped even harder for a moment. "I'm sorry."

"Me too."

"Who were they?"

"Braixen and Frogadier. Braixen was... was my first Pokémon."

Grant stood up and walked away from me, facing the sea as he spoke. "When I was first starting out as a Pokémon Trainer, I chose a Fennekin to be my partner, too. We had a lot of adventures together, but he was brought down by Lunatone." He turned to the side and I could see tears glinting on his face as he brought back the memories. "It was my first loss, and I still remember it like it was yesterday."

I sat there in the sand, watching his back as he watched the waves, both of us content with the silence of remembrance. My new Skarmory was still frolicking about, teasing a Shellder that had washed up on the beach. After a few minutes, Grant sighed deeply and walked back up the beach, plopping down next to me.

"There aren't too many people who know this," he continued, "but that loss of my Delphox was what led me to specializing in Rock-type Pokémon. Rock-type Pokémon are very powerful offensively, as I learned the hard way, and I thought that..." His voice trailed off as he searched for the words. "I knew it wouldn't bring Delphox back, but I thought that if I understood what had killed her, it would help me avoid making that same mistake ever again."

Grant sighed. "Delphox was the first Pokémon I lost, but he wasn't the last. I won't tell you that it gets any easier, because it doesn't, but the more you learn and grow as a trainer, the better you'll be able to take care of them." He gave me a sideways glance. "I hope you're not planning on quitting being a Pokémon Trainer."

I clenched a Pokéball in my hand. "No, I'm still in. So long as they are."

"They're still here with you, aren't they?" Grant laughed. "You've got two badges; I know, I heard from Reggie. You've got spunk and talent, I could see that in you when I saw you biking on the path to the gym. Don't ever think that you're dragging your Pokémon along on this journey against their will. They're here because they trust you and they want to be with you."

"Even if all I'm doing is sending them to their graves?"

"You're helping them to grow and better themselves, just as they're helping you. Tell me, what's your goal as a Trainer?"

"M-Me?" I stammered, blushing. "Well, I, uh, I'd really love to make it to the Pokémon League, I guess."

"And after that?"

"I-I don't know." I couldn't think up a lie fast enough; nothing like this had been talked about in my briefings! "Maybe travel to different regions, different leagues. I want to keep getting stronger as a trainer, and do what I can to help the world." There, that was nice and neutral, and not too much of a lie.

Grant smiled and stood back up, offering me a hand to join him which I took. "I think you have the makings of a wonderful trainer, and I believe your Pokémon will help you achieve that goal. Don't give up."

I gave him a tight smile. "I won't."

With a final wave, Grant turned around and headed south, the setting sunlight glinting off his hair.

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

I'll be honest, I completely forgot that I would fight Korrina then. I thought you had to talk to the Tour Guide Lady before Korrina would appear for some reason; don't ask me where I got that from. So, I was healed, but not exactly prepared, and those Lucarios are a rough battle when you're at equal levels, which I was at the time with my strongest Pokémon and I was still babying Petilil. Losing Braixen to the crit was pure bad luck; a rough lesson to be sure. What's even worse though, really, is that Frogadier's death was my own fault; doing the Quick Attack made Protean turn him into a Normal-type making him extra weak against those stupid Power-Up Punches. >_<

I blame the fact that my mind has been on my poor kitty as of late, and not very focused.

Sorry for the lack of team in this update; I was actually planning on ending Chapter 11 where I'm currently at in the game, but after seeing how long this chapter was already, I decided to call it quits here, since it seemed like a good point to end. Chapter 12 will start with what's already happened (route 11 and reflection cave) and probably end up somewhere in Shalour, though the Gym Battle at least will wait for Chapter 13.

I have decided to add Skarmory onto my team, at least for how, and he's already a beast. <3 Skarmory. Flavour of the plot aside, he was my WT from R11 (I actually snuck between the trainers to get to the grass so I could catch a Pokémon before fighting anyone in case I would need to train up another Lv. 1 Pokémon, which is of course what happened).

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 11

Haven't read in ages...
Nice chapter, Athena! The deaths of your team sate my bloothirst deeply sadden me, but you have to stand tall and proud and keep marching on. I don't like the way you picture Korrina, to be honest (she's one of the few XY characters I like), but you're the one pulling the ropes, so you've got the right.
Skarmory is a cool physical wall that can prove quite useful to you, but be careful 'cos its offense and special defense are mediocre to bad. Good luck as you continue!

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 11

Korrina's always struck me as rather flighty and immature, but then, skater kids were the jerks of my high school, so I probably see Korrina in a more negative light than most people, I suppose. Jessie also strikes me as something of the catty type; I think she's predisposed to being more negative towards other women in general, as you see pretty commonly in the anime, at least in the Indigo League, so she tends to react better towards the male NPCs than females, generally speaking.

Skarmory is <3. He's holding his own very well, even amongst higher-leveled Pokémon. It probably also helps that I haven't come across any Fire- or Lightning-type Pokémon yet, but I'll have to be careful once I do.

Chapter 12: Reminiscence and Reflection Cave

I watched as Grant left to the south, following along the coastal portion of Route 8. It was getting late, but I was too keyed up to turn in already, so I recalled Skarmory and made my way to the other side of Cyllage, trudging up the steep path to the mountain. Above the gym entrance was a cave, the other side of the cave where Ivysaur had died, still blocked by falling boulders. Using the HM I'd received from Grant, I was able to sort out the boulders to make my way through.

It was full night by the time I made it through the caves and to Ivysaur's grave. By the light of the stars, I buried Braixen and Frogadier in the same spot, and then made camp with my remaining Pokémon, huddling together for warmth. I cried much less this night than I had before, finding strength in Grant's words, and the Pokémon who still stayed by my side.

As I drifted off to sleep, I mused about how little these days I was thinking of my home and my mission.

In the morning, I decided to backtrack a bit further to the Battle Chateau. Skarmory would need some training, and that seemed like a perfect place to get some in, and score some additional funds in the process. Those rich trainers are easy to beat and fleece. With some extra experience and money under my belt, I made my way back to Cyllage where I splurged on a new outfit before heading on.

Having traveled the path already before, it didn't take me too long to get back to Geosenge and beyond. The path to neighboring Shalour was through a cave, with a good amount of trainers hanging around outside. Two of them challenged me to a double battle, which I accepted warily, being cautious of double battles after my run-in with the Furfrou couple near the Parfum Palace. Turns out my caution was warranted, as both of the opposing Pokémon immediately ganged up my Snorunt, killing it quickly thanks to a lucky critical. I bit my lip and finished the battle, taking strength from my Pokémon.

Only after the battle was over did I allow my shoulders to sag and my tears to fall, scooping up my lost little Snorunt. I debated going back to bury him by the others, but I knew he wouldn't be my last to fall, and I wouldn't be able to keep traveling back to the same spot over and over, so I ended up burying him nearby the cave entrance. While I was saying my goodbyes, my transmitter began buzzing. I halfheartedly pulled it out my pocket and received my next Pokémon... a Gible.

I instinctively jerked back from the Pokémon when I released it. Ever since the sneak attack from from the Axew against Ivysaur, I'd been nervous about Dragon-type Pokémon, but I recalled Grant's words and the meaning of his story to me, about conquering my fears. I straightened out and held my hand out to the Gible, who came towards me warily, sniffing my hand as I pet it gently. Unlike most of the other Pokémon I'd received, this one seemed to have some battle experience already, and it was excited to get into the caves and prove itself. I was as ready as I'd ever be.

Despite Gible's eagerness, I, myself, was still more focused on training the lower-leveled members of my party: Skarmory and Petilil. Skarmory was quite the beast and was easily handling Pokémon at higher levels, but Petilil was still shy and cautious when battling. Still, both were leveling up well, and I was taking on the trainers I came across, healing frequently.

The one who gave me trouble was the Battle Girl with her Hawlucha. Its Karate Chop attacks were powerful and strong against most of my Pokémon; only Petilil could withstand a 2KO. She stood in battle bravely, facing the larger and more powerful Pokémon, never foreseeing the Aerial Ace that cut her down like a knife through butter. Another friend lost again. Petilil's sacrifice saved me enough time to send out another Pokémon to take down the Hawlucha quickly, but she paid the ultimate price for it.

Perhaps I was becoming hardened from the earlier deaths, perhaps I was too tired, perhaps I hadn't cared as much about Petilil as the others, or perhaps I had simply cried too much and was all out of tears, but whatever the reason, my eyes were dry and my body hollow as I returned Petilil to her Pokéball, vowing to bury her out in the sunlight she enjoyed so much.

I was perhaps overly cautious throughout the rest of my journey through the cave. It was large and maze-like, filled with trainers and traps, but we managed to make it through without any more death or injury. In fact, we actually had some evolutions, when Kirlia evolved into Gardevoir and Gible into Gabite! It felt like days had passed while I was in that cavern, but the sun was still shining when I exited into Shalour City, and I fulfilled my promise to Petilil, burying her in the sunlight near a grove of berry trees.

My Pokémon and I shared a picnic near Petilil's grave, enjoying a meal of dried meats and berries. As we relaxed, my transmitter buzzed again. I figured I would need a teammate to replace Petilil, so I opened it up eagerly staring into the face of.... a Pikachu.

I was so dumbfounded I could hardly speak. It looked up at me and smiled with a loud "Pikapi!", wagging it's heart-shaped tale. My heart caught in my throat, wondering if this really was THE Pikachu, since Ash obvious didn't have it right now... but then I looked at the tail again and realized that it was a female. Still, Pikachu was a very powerful Lightning-type Pokémon, and with her at my side, I was sure to beat Korrina at the gym and get my revenge on her for killing my Braixen!

Lucario - Lv. 31
Gardevoir - Lv. 30
Tyrunt - Lv. 30
Skarmory - Lv. 28
Gabite - Lv. 29
Pikachu - Lv. 11

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

Two more deaths. T_T Snorunt's death was actually the same day real-world time as Braixen and Frogadier; that was a bad day for playing Pokémon, but I really blame myself for being preoccupied with my cat's injuries at the time; I wasn't focusing very much on playing. Petilil's death was actually a pretty difficult battle; like I said in the story, I didn't have anyone that could withstand its stupid Karate Chop attack EXCEPT Petilil... and totally spaced on the fact that it would likely know some flying moves too. -_-; I should have leveled up more before going into the cave, honestly, but I was hoping/planning on using the cave itself for leveling. Gible ended up being a godsend in that respect; it arrived at Lv. 27 so it had Dragon Claw already and didn't need to be babied as it leveled up like almost all my other Pokémon.

I laughed so hard when I got that Pikachu. It was actually my WT for Route 12; I made a detour there as soon as I could to fill my party back up before moving on with the storyline. I will definitely be training up and using Pikachu, though I'd like some advice on moves/evolving. I already have a Thunder Stone, but I'm thinking I'll want to it get it up to at least Lv. 29 for for Electro Ball and Thunderbolt, both of which seems solid (and I won't be getting the Thunderbolt TM for a while still). Opinions are, of course, welcome.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 11

I'm sorry for your loss but look at the bright side: you wont have to watch Frogadier turning into Jar-Jar Binks! Now, Snorunt...it was supposed to be Ivysaur's avenger...now it's up there too =( Petilil...poor thing!

Well, you can get your revenge. When going to "Lady" (what a joke) Corrina's Gym, since you won't (I think) have to battle her again you can kill her Pokémon too. Let your anger flow and unleash the power and Pokémon, don't restrain yourself. Remember, Ivysaur, Frogadier and Delphox will be watching so they might want to see some deadly payback. Also, your Lucario might have some "Pkrus rabies" that will make him blind to your commands and just tear the others apart.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 11

HAHAHHAHAH
Although, those deaths...
You really aren't lucky lately. I'm working twardswhee you are, keep on going! Get it E-Ball and T-Bolt and then evolve it; just make sure it doesn't die in the meantime!
