RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Ok so im trygin to teach my self how to be competive in the VG and am working on a team right now. But I have a question.

What are some common leads in OU?

and...

What does it mean when someone says that Pokemon X is a direct counter to Pokemon Y?

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but what IS RNG (Besides it being a computer program)? Also, how does one get ahold of it?

^I know that I've seen Ninjask with Protect/Substitute/Swords Dance/Baton Pass a few times as an opener. Let it sit out there till Speed Boost takes full effect, then Baton Pass out to a slightly slower Pokemon. Very annoying to KO. VERY.

Also, direct counter is a Pokemon that's specifically raised to get rid of one Pokemon (and obviously a few others). I don't know any exact Mons in comp. battling, but think sort of how Cresselia and Darkrai work as 'counters' in game. Cresselia's Lunar Wing is the only thing that can wake up the boy in Canalave. Vise-versa, a lot of people believe Darkrai can easily overtake Cresselia (for whatever reason). Does that make any sense at all rofl? Maybe another member can offer an actual competitive Pokemon counter.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

can a pokemon learn any move that a pokemon in its egg group can learn?

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

99- No, actually. Only egg moves specific to each Pokemon can be inherited. For example, Magikarp can't inherit any moves because it only learns three moves...and it's pathetic. :p

Like I said, each Pokémon has (I think) up to 10-12 Egg Moves it can specifically learn. Serebii has lists of them in the Pokedex.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Magikarp learns four moves, actually! Bounce was recently added. No, really.

But yeah, Pokemon can only learn certain moves of other Pokemon.

And to answer your question, RNG stands for "random number generator". It's what decides pretty much everything in almost all RPGs. Platinum happens to have a particularly broken/predictable one, so one can abuse the RNG in order to obtain things like shinies and Pokemon with good IVs more easily. You can't "get it" (as it is not a concrete noun) but you can, as stated, abuse it by playing around until you get the result you like.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Where is the best place to download the RNG Reporter without having to download anything else?
If that doesn't exist, what is the best place and how would I install it?

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Without having to download anything else? Well, the .NET framework is a tad important.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

What is an easy Pokemon to chain for shinies in Diamond and Platinum? And where? Thanks in advance.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

Sorry, that should have been obvious. Thanks.

All Pokemon have the same chance of appearing shiny while chaining regularly. My knowledge of RNG abuse is limited but I do believe that you would be able to use RNG reporter to get shinies.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

can someone post a link that explains natures? like what ones are good for what etc..

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

A good ingame moveset for Lucario?

So far, I have decided:

icon448.gif

-Aura Sphere
-Dark Pulse
-Flash Cannon
-Dragon Pulse

And no, I do not want any status moves.

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

I'd have this:

448.png

~@Life Orb/Choise Specs (I can see that you want a special Lucario from the moves that you put on).
-Aura Spere
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power Rock
-(any move you like, the three moves can handle any typing :D)

Or you can have a Swords Dancing one.
@Life Orb/Choise Band
-Swords Dance/(if you chose Choice Band then any phsycial move can do fine).
-Close Combat
-Extremspeed if you know the opponents faster but in game shouldn't be a problem
-Crunch

Hope I helped, buddeh! xF

RE: The D/P/P Questions and Answers Thread

It is completely reliant on a Pokemon's IVs. Also, instead of Flash Cannon, you could do ThunderPunch to help against Gyarados. I don't know how far you are so you may or may not have to deal with Gyarados.

Hmm, good idea, but is there a special electric type move that Lucario can learn?
