BW/BW2 The Simple 5th Gen VG Questions and Answers Thread

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Ok, well here's my planned team:
Samurott
Lucario
Ampharos
Garchomp
Mandibuzz
Espeon/Leafeon (Still deciding.)

You might consider Zoroark instead of Mandibuzz. It can learn a wide variety of moves from TMs including Flamethrower and Grass Knot. You can get Zorua by talking to one of the people in the house where you learn about Team Plasma N if you have 5 or fewer Pokemon in your party. It also has N's trainer ID so it willgain 1.5 times the normal amount of experience making it easy to level up.

I'd recommend Espeon over Leafeon because it helps against Fighting-Types. It also has higher Speed and is more powerful offensively.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Well, OK. But I'm actually considering Flareon suddenly because of the vast majority of Fire-Steel types. And the only reason I added Espeon was for a filler.
But if I don't chose Leafeon I'll have trouble against water-ground types. I suppose I can teach one of my team members Energy Ball.
And also, I'm sticking with Mandibuzz. I've allready developed it enough, plus it's the special one with the ability Weak Armor.
Plus, if I do chose Zoroark, I'll have to forget about the Eeveeloutions altogether and choose a flying type.
(Plus I've already used Zoroark in another one of my teams.)

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Weak Armor really doesn't work well for it. It actually lowers its Defense each time it gets hit by a physical attack. The Speed Boost it will receive from it isn't really worth it since it is not powerful offensively. It has a base attack of 65 and Special Attack of 55 which are both poor. The main perk to using Mandibuzz is that it can be a good wall. Weak Armor makes it not able to do its job as well. If it had Big Pecks or Overcoat as its Ability it would work much better.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Hmm... Well what are some good moves I can teach it then?

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Zoroark can learn Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Grass Knot, and Nasty Plot. It can quickly sweep teams after using Nasty Plot.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

^It can also apparently learn Extrasensory as an egg move, but I think the other moves might be better...

Speaking of Zoroark, while I was playing Black 2, I came across a "glitch". It doesn't appear anywhere on Bulbapedia; not even on the discussion page. I was wondering whether it actually was a glitch, an overlook, or if it was intentional.
So I was training my Zoroark in Wellspring cave while looking for Focus Blast. Zoroark was at the end of my party, and my Umbreon was at the back. Umbreon also had his HP in the yellow zone.
I ended up running into a Hiker. As I sent out Zoroark, which of course was disguised as Umbreon, I noticed something - his cry was lower as if it had low HP. Zoroark's HP bar was completely full however, although like I said, Umbreon's was yellow. I experimented with the glitch, (it also works on my Black) and learned that it doesn't matter what Zoroark's HP is, his cry when sent out will depend on the last Pokemon's HP. This is also affected by the low HP cry glitch; if the last Pokemon's HP is red then Zoroark will sound healthy when sent out, whether he actually is or not. (Although I'm not sure whether the low HP cry glitch is still in BW2 though).
So, is this even a glitch? What are your thoughts? Thanks, and sorry if this was a bit tl;dr

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

The Zoroark cry thing sounds intentional and I also have a question, what happens if a EV reducing berry is eaten by a bug bite/pluck user? (I saw this on a philosopher archeops meme and it has been bothering me ever since)

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

I tried it in a double battle. It just said "Butterfree stole N'sBedroom's Grepa Berry!" After battle, it was completely gone when I checked. So yeah, it seems to do nothing but destroy the berry...

So the EVs were not reduced?

After the battle, I looked at Butterfree's SpD, and it was 60. After I reset, it was still 60. So not that I'm aware of. I mean maybe, but during battle it never said anything about happiness or special defence.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

You can't use that berry in battle which is why it didn't do anything.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Quick question, if I have a male English Lucario from a trade and breed it with a Spanish female Lucario from a trade, will the Masuda Method still work? I know for sure Japanese or Korean with one of your Pokemon will.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

The Masuda Method will work. The requirement is that the 2 parents must be from different countries of origin. It doesn't necessary have to be English v. Japanese.

Okay thanks. I was pretty sure, but I didn't want to breed 10000000 eggs and find out I wasn't doing it right...

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Also, about that post I made a while ago about my team...
Since Leafeon is too hard to get, and Flareon doesn't have impressive stats
Can't Espeon learn like, Flamethrower and Energy Ball or something? That would be win-win all around. So if I could have an Espeon with one Fire type move and one Grass type move, I'd be all set.
Only problem is that I'd have to leave my Arcanine, named Rush (MMIII <3) in my PC box, which would suck because he's AMAZING.
And Espeon is hard to get.

Espeon does not learn Flamethrower, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't learn Energy Ball (but I could be wrong) unless it's a tutor or something they added (like Outrage on Growlithe). Ninetales can learn Flamethrower from Vulpix and Energy Ball via TM, Abra can learn Energy Ball via TM and is Psychic (but you can't obtain it during the story...) and Zoroark can learn Flamethrower via TM.

RE: The Fifth Gen Questions and Answers Thread

Espeon does not get Energy Ball, but it does get Grass Knot.

Just asking, what are people's feelings here about Pokecheck? Are you all for it or against it?
