RE: Yugioh Thread
...well, this is certainly interesting.
Konami seems to have improved the quality of their art drastically, or at the very least with the TCG exclusives. The art quality increased so much that a certain image caused a lot of controversy in the Yu-Gi-Oh community, seemingly popping out of nowhere with claims that it was real.
Trolling ensued. After a couple days of argument, Kevin Tewart came on the Pojo forums (lolpojo) and linked the thread to a new article that confirmed the existence of this card, which is going to be the cover card of wave 2.5 (I know, it's weird) of this year's tins.
Ladies and gentleman, I introduce you to Prophecy Destroyer.
2500/1200
Spellcaster/Dark
If this card is in your Graveyard: You can banish 3 "Spellbook" Spell Cards from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard.
The card itself honestly isn't all that spectacular, but with the recent sets, TCG exclusives have been seeing an increase in the quality of art, similar to the art style of MTG. Galactic Overload brought us
Noble Knight Artorigus and
Ancient Dragon, while Return of the Duelist brings us
Noble Knight Gawayn and Prophecy Destroyer, as shown above (interestingly, Gawayn and Destroyer share the same set number as Artorigus and Ancient Dragon had in GAOV, respectively).
Ancient Dragon's artwork was done by Gonzalo Ordóñez Arias (aka
GENZOMAN), an artist from Chile. He also did the coloring for Artorigus while some guy named Joe Ng drew it. Art for both of these cards were done in collaboration with UDON Entertainment, and the same appears to be the case for Gawayn and Destroyer.
This marks the first time a non-Japanese artist--though still closely associated with Japan--made art for an official Yu-Gi-Oh card. And if this goes well, chances are we'll see more in the future...
Any comments on this?
