What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

There used to be the game corner, but taking it away was supposed to add focus to the TCG area. So no RPG area.

I think PokeBeach should add chats and more public things that everyone can participate in. I also think PokeBeach would be a lot more social if there are more tournaments, discussions, threads, and topics to choose from. I think some of the good topics are begin lacked on PokeBeach.

If there are so many topics that we allegedly lack, then feel free to mention them. We also have some great tournaments going on at the moment, including this and this. We are in no way lacking social graces, but rather a professional aesthetic. I think we've made great steps in becoming a more competitive and friendly forum, although we can always improve.

We need to get serious and focus deep on the VG and VGC areas BESIDES just the TCG. The TCG is good but it is lacking big time in the VG and VGC areas of the forums.

Here is some ways that could improve these forums drastically.

1. Completely rebuild the VG section with a brand new set of rules and ditch the old rules.
2. Make it so tournaments are year around rather than certain times of the year.
3. BIG one. Focus on rebuilding the trading section completely. I mean threads and everything. The Trading Wi-Fi thread DOES NOT count.
4. Make it so users users Shoddy AND also Wi-Fi in the exact same forum and aim users to their desired areas depending on their platforms they are using.

We must do something to make this area of the forums much more active than it is now. Something happened in 2008 that made most of those players disappear off the forums and for some reason this area of the forums died. Something went wrong in 08 that made most users not want to come here. Now we need to find a way to make users WANT to come here. I don't know what happened but for some reason everyone left.

We seriously need to focus more on this area so it will become more active and also make it so users will want to come here and have fun. We need to balance the scale on both ends and make these forums much more inviting to the VG area rather than just the TCG. Right now you guys have everything mostly on the TCG and there are roughly 7 forums for that. We need that many forums in order to make the VG area just as active and also make it so more members will want to join. We must work harder to achieve this goal. I would like to see this happen by 2015. Do you guys have what it takes to make it happen? I hope you do so we can be the most popular forum out there. Right now we are number 2 and we want to be #1 right? If so what can you guys do now to start getting these forums more active in that area of the forums?:)

Alright. First off, from what my colleagues tell me, the TCG area is in no way perfect. So we still need efforts focused towards that. The TCG is not in competition with the VG for popularity on this forum. And I do agree that the VG area is in need of extra programs and activity, but we have enough in the works to ensure that we have a productive VG forum. So here are my answers to your points:

1. Our rules are completely up to date an accurate with competitive battling standards for today's metagame. There is no need to replace them.
2. We have many tournaments running right now, and I've seen many users send in ideas for their own tournies. Try signing up for one sometime.
3. We're not bringing trading back until further notice. It was closed due to a lack of interest, and the Trade Thread works just as well, if not better. Get over it.
4. The majority of Competitive Battling takes place on the Pokemon Online Battle Simulator these days. Wi-fi battling is too long and tedious to create quick and simple games to play, as opposed to battle simulators, which create huge social servers for people to battle and chat on. I don't want to see another debate about how Battle Simulators are "ruining battling and trading". And we don't discriminate against Wi-fi users in the first place. If you enjoy battling, on either Wi-fi or PO, post in the forums sometime. Who knows, you might like it.

The fact is that we've lost some good players over the years, and it's only the staff and the player's business to know why. Instead of complaining in these random posts, try contributing. Post an RMT, ask questions, anything. And instead of achieving this by 2015, why not tomorrow?

We also need to work on the Wi-Fi aspect of the battling and trading sections. Sure there are disconnects. That is typical with every server. That will always happen. Just because it is faster on simulators does not mean that it is always the best way to battle though. We have to work on the Wi-Fi aspects as well as the simulator aspects too. not just one or the other man. We have to focus on the TCG as well as the VG on both sides. Not just one opr the other as I said be fore. We need forums for simulator users and we need forums for Wi-Fi users also. We see more simulator use than Wi-Fi use. We have to encourage the use of Wi-Fi as users like me and a few others is all they can use. We have to balance the scale on all 3 ends. Not just one or two but all 3 ends.:)

If you get enough people who actually gives a care about COMPETITIVE Wi-Fi battling, then you raise this issue. As long as there isn't a majority interest about COMPETITIVE Wi-Fi battling, you might as well just drop the idea because it is a waste of effort to rebuild something not more than twenty members would give a care about especially that the VG section is in a very bad state right now and is still trying to recuperate from all their losses.

I'd like to know what exactly you have in mind about changing the rules.

If a thread is dead for more than 2 weeks it would be locked without question. When the member(s) return they can ask for it to be unlocked. This is to avoid any dead threads for spammers and also it will help keep the forum clean if we do it this way.

Also members would have to report to the staff if they are going to be gone more than 2 weeks. If they fail to do so their thread will be locked until farther notice.

Simple solution if a thread goes inactive it gets locked. Also they would have to post a minimum of 1 week to keep their thread active. If they can't do a new post then to edit their last post once a week,

This will help keep the forum active and it will not die as easily as it did before. See right now we are to focused on the TCG which is good but we also have to focus on the VG as well. I am not sure if you guys are forgetting or just not have gotten to it yet.

Also members would have to be tight on everything they trade. Meaning everything must be legit checked and also every member will be required to have a Pokemon Secure account for legit checking to ensure that every members data is legit and not hacked. I think with these rules the Wi-Fi section and trading sections will be better off.:)

Two things.

Locking threads does absolutely nothing. We had a system before the change where threads were closed if a member got banned, and it didn't lead anywhere. Locking inactive threads does ABSOLUTELY nothing. This is because unless we delete inactive threads, they are still going to be sitting there doing nothing, taking up space. Also, when we had a past trading section, it had ZERO activity. If we were to start something new up, it would have like 3 threads, and would have no purpose. That is what the Wifi trade thread is for.

Also, why would you be forcing them to get memberships with a 3rd Party legit checking site. I don't make you join Smogon to make sure you know how to do competitive battling, why join Secure for VGC trading.

What happened in 2008 that made the VG section go inactive? Something did happen and most members left. Why did everyone suddenly leave the VG section hang? Do you guys know what happened 3 years ago? That is the main reason it died in the first place.:)

Could we have a separate section for TCGO trades instead of just a single thread? I feel this could be a robust section of pokebeach.

This is what we had until the mods decided to go the Serebii way.. WPM: Don't scream because I was just mentioning that is how it now has become. In the trade section we are now operating like Serebii. Come to think of it why would you guys go with the flow like Serebii in the trade section? If you are a competitor with them you have to operate in ways they do not operate. Going with the exact same flow means you guys are actually giving up in some ways. We don't want that to happen.

We do need to find a way to make players want to come to that section create a thread and trade or battle. As I said before something happen ed in 2008 that drove everyone to leave the forums and we had 30 active threads or more here but seriously something you guys did drove everyone way.

Do you guys have a history or timeline of what was going on with the forums at the end of 2008 and into 2009? In April 2009 everyone was completely gone. Please post a timeline so I can figure this out and maybe I can try and help you guys rebuild that part of the forums. From my point of view when the simulators were introduced everyone dropped Wi-Fi and went to those and I think that was one of the main reasons why that forum died. Not looking for a flame war. Just saying that could be one of the possible reasons to why the forum died

We don't have a 'history timeline'. We simply grew out of the need for a huge VG trade forum. Most players here either play casually (Don't trade for shinies or events) or they play competetively (Only ply on PO)
The single thread is perfectly fine.

Can we PLEASE end this discussion? Seriously?
The forums are not dead. They have matured and evolved. (lol)

How was I supposed to know that? I did not know this was the real reason you did that. Before making any future plans please make sure your points are precise so I don't have to keep digging to find the real answer. Thanks. I am done now.:(

We've told you that about a dozen times. ~ SL

Oh ok. Maybe I did not understand this until now. You guys must realize that sometimes you have to explain things in a way for me to understand. If I don't understand something I ask about it until I do understand. I am slow at understanding if I don't have it clearly explained in a way that I understand. Yeah sometimes you have to tell me quite a few times before I do understand. You just have to be patient until I do understand. I don't mean to be annoying. It is mostly due to medical issues. That is why I can be a bit pushy at times.:(
