What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

Some stuff that I would like to see.
  • Pokébeach's Pokémon Online Server up 24-7
  • Reformatting of card scans on the main page of the site. The pages loaded so much faster the way they were formatted before Undaunted. This is so much nicer than this mess.
  • Another Large Video Game tournament, something like the Master Cup.
  • Forum Archives to be visible to members. IDK if these have been deleted or not, but they are fun to go through.

Just a bunch of minor crud. On a side note, I would like to give a large thanks to everyone who has helped fix these forums in the past two months, they have gotten so much better and the intelligence levels of discussion have gone up drastically. Thanks to all of the staff.

Visible forum archives would be really cool; I think we'd all like to see the noobish posts of our pasts.

I'd really like to see VG tutoring come back (I know this has been mentioned before, but I think this is really important). The VG forum consists of the basically the same people replying to each other, so it would be nice to see a few new faces. Tutoring makes the introduction to VG battling smoother.

We've got 6 people (more than last time) who are qualified as VG tutors: TDL, Teapot, Daft Punk, Pride, bacon-boy and Steadfast.

Anything that is worth being seen is in the Amazing Threads, trust me.

I'd like to see VG tutoring too, honestly.

What I think we should do here is bring back the Pokemon VG trading threads. Its hard enough trying to trade anymore. There are players, like myself, who may want them back.

I have tried many times to make this happen man but the mods say it is too late now. Unless they get more members that start trading on Wi-Fi then this is the way it will be. Yes it is very difficult to even get offers now. I have not gotten any offers since they switched it. I don't know what it will take for them to reverse it other than more members but yes I agree.:)

Glaceon, I gave you specific reasons as to why your article was not accepted. If those were not enough for you, you should have asked for more, and been more specific about what you wanted. Furthermore, the type of article you're writing is very important. Think about it this way. Would you ever want to read an article about Dialga CL? No. You'll never play that deck, so it's not relevant to you. Even if you read it, you get no benefit from it. While that's an extreme example, it also applies to any other deck; ZPST included. The majority of players will not get any benefit from reading about the basics of building it.

Vulpix Yolk, I actually prefer the new layout for TCG scans. It takes the page a little longer to load, but after it loads, I can look at all the scans at once. This lets me see which ones have Abilities, what retreat cost they have, their HP, etc, without having to click on a million links. I don't have any opinions on the other stuff, though. And, you're welcome! :p

I'm not sure if the opinion of a single person makes or breaks a suggestion one way or another.

That said, although the "new layout" (which isn't actually a new layout at all; it was only the product of glitches and a tiny bit of laziness) does let you see all the cards at once, it is not really cleaner per se than the usual format.
I think the usual format would be better for the BW cards, since it lets you easily tell what cards are holofoil rares and which aren't; from the card scans alone it's a bit difficult to tell. Plus, it's sorted.

Sometimes I log on to this website from a library near me, and when I load things using the old format it comes up right away. With the other "grid" format it takes at least 15 seconds. Similarly, when I'm at home and using the grid format, I have to wait for all the cards to load at times; usually the card I want to view is toward the bottom of the set list, and that card loads last.

If it isn't too much of a big deal on WPM's part, I'd like to see the "old" layout for card scans back.

I dunno; it sounded like it was coming off sorta arrogant, but maybe I'm just imagining things.

It was not intended to sound like that... Although, I am pretty bad at using tone and such on the internet; it's hard to replace actual gestures and expressions. It's probably my bad.

That is why I use a Smiley face on almost every post. That way people know that I am not showing any sort of tone or anything. That will help you drastically XD.:)

Unfortunately that section was hardly getting replies. If it would've actually been getting a bunch of replies, it would've stayed.

  • I'm not physically able to have 24 / 7 internet. I keep asking for it, but I don't get it.

We have some things in progress. Hopefully they happen soon.:)

So I don't qualify as a VG tutor.:p I'm not sure when we will have it be available next.

We've talked about tutoring. I think it'll definitely be appearing sometime in the future, but as of now our VG forums are a little lackluster so we'll probably focus on beefing the content there up a bit before tackling tutoring.

Check Real World. Unless there's more, everything was moved there recently.

We need a stronger in-game approach. Having a stronger approach attracts newer players who like to play the game for the sake of playing the game. By getting these younger, newer players, we could be able to help them with the basics of playing competitively (for example, helping them out with the Battle Subway). In doing so, they will become better and better at battling to the point of understanding the advanced parts of competitive play (IVs, EVs, teambuilding, the metagame, etc.). Eventually, we could have a large amount of competitive and casual VG players.

That's actually a good idea. If we can get them playing in-game more often and on Wi-Fi we can rebuild the Wi-Fi section. When everyone went to the simulators I think that was when that section started to die and it eventually died so we need to get players back on Wi-Fi to help rebuild that section. We must do everything we can to rebuild it. Does everyone have what it takes to do this? I hope so because we don't want dead Wi-Fi section again.:)

I don't think we should try to link the two together. New players will get frustrated and might quit if their first competitive experiences are In-Game.

More in-game activity never hurts though.

Not if both are equal. We somehow have to find a way to balance that area for both competitive AND Wi-Fi. We have to do something to make that area equally active. Any suggestions to how it can be done?:)

Get more members who are interested in Wi-fi. Currently, you and P99 seem to be the ones who are even relatively interested in Wi-fi battling and trading. If we get more members wanting to trade/battle, then you never know what could happen. ;]

This. Inactive forum = no one gives a rat's arse.

Wifi Forum dead = no one cares about Wi-Fi.

Solution? Get people who care about WiFi

Just posting to say that I do agree with this. I'm thinking about different ways we can approach this, although it's not something that I'll personally be committed to as I don't do a lot of in-game stuff and I don't even own a copy of Black or White (at least that is in English :p).
