XY What new Types would you like to see in X and Y?

Ancient - Rock (or Ground/Psychic)
Psychic - Fire, Psychic, Electric, Normal, Grass
Sound - ...no need/redundant/too much work and editing
Salt - ...
Wood - Grass
Digital - maybe (though that could easily be Normal, Electric, Steel, or Electric/Steel)
Spirit - Ghost
Saint - Fighting, Normal
Glass - again ...
Machine - Electric/Steel or just Steel
Monster - thats literally every single pokemon, hence the name being Pocket MONSTERS
Air - Flying

I think its important to get that Grass =/= grass literally, just nature in general and Flying just means a pokemon that relies on flying or levitating without the use of psychic powers or something. That's collective for birds, bugs, and spirits. Tornadus makes sens because he is literally a Wind Spirit, and the only other pure Flying type I can see is an Eeveelution (which would also keep up the literal flying type).

Its not so much about being "pure Flying type" as it is being a "primary Flying type", that differenciates Tornadus from the rest.

If there was some dual type Pokemon that had Flying as its primary, it would not be just airborne like all the secondaries, but, I assume, very wind-based, with the other type (if any), being the extra.

I still like to think that Spirit type would not be equal to Ghost type. Ghost is too ominous and represents the dead, demonic, and possessed. Spirit would be angelic, light, benevolent and would not be related to the themes I listed for ghost. I dont agree with my choice of new type though. I'm just saying I think it would be more acceptable than Light type. I dont really want new types anyway, unless they are done well.

Ghost types are not necessarily demonic though. Dusknoir is perceived to be bad but is just the Nanny of the Dead. It doesn't kill anything, it just makes sure ghosts make it to the Spirit World safely.

I guess normal type sort of fits it though, judging from pokemon like Togekiss and Arceus.

I agree, demonic might be harsh, but I think as a general rule they seem to follow those lines. I could argue that Togekiss would become part Spirit type instead of Normal sort of like how Magnemite/ton gained a type.

I think Spirit would still be a bit limiting. We can only use Angels and "good" spirits so much. Ghost type has a lot more flexibility because of the amount of ghosts different civilizations have come up with.

Fair enough. Though, you could always stretch a little. Sort of like how Dark was meant to be sneaky and a counterpart to Fighting. And now it means, well.... dark.

First I agree Ghost type is a flexible term where "spirits" fit in accordingly. But light would include Pokemon like Lanturn and Chandelure. Another Question: Would anybody like the idea of changing the name of the type "Flying" to something like Wind or Air?

^No, Flying is the best name. Not all Flying-type pokes are flying type because they are related to the wind or the sky. It's really just because they can fly...

I personally think light itself could be stuck with Electric or Fire. And I like Flying how it is lol

But pokemon light Lanturn generate light/electricity and Chandelure's lights are literally ghostly flames.

Flying type if fine as is, especially since the moves usuallly relate to flying more so than wind specifically.

I could see new typing for some more modern people, but also, I can see old typing being just fine for the classical people. Here are some that could possibly made, if at all:

. Light (Things like Manectric, Cubchoo, and Beartic)
. Sound (Whismur, Loudred, Exploud, Chimecho, Mr. Mime [Just for the Laugh Effect])
. Cyber (Things like Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z, MissingNo.)
. Virtual (Things like Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z)
. Ancient (For the Fossils and some of the Legendaries)
. Cosmic (Things like Mew, Baltoy, Claydol, Elgyem, Beheeyem)

I like Sound and Light, especially sound because the game already recognizes sound-based moves.

. Again, all Electric types generate their own electricity, and how do Cubchoo and Beartic qualify for the Light type?
. I guess the sound type works but what purpose does it serve as far as strengths and weaknesses go?
. Cyber and virtual are the same but I don't see any other pokemon that fit into the typing.
. Ancient is kind of just a glorified Rock type though. Plus, I think that the fossils would have been part Rock even without being resurrected like Relicanth is.
. Cosmic doesn't really stand out from any of the other subcategories in the Psychic type. They wouldn't really have different attacks or strengths/weaknesses compared to other Psychic types.

I would like to see them be original; create the Pokémon first, then give it a type, not starting with a type combination and trying to come up with a Pokémon that fits the type. It is not a contest of how many type combinations they can get covered.

It pretty much seems like thats what they've been doing all along, merely adding exotic combos where appropriate.
I mean, since they never really overdo it, always having a decent amount of single types and casual stuff too.

But after 600 creatures, some of the weirder combos easily come about xD
They are requested to design stuff with different kinds of requests, like "make a strong dragon type" which turned out as Hydreigon (who originally resembled a tank) and then there is for example Frillish/Jellicent that gained Ghost in a late stage of the development as they realized that there are enough pure Water types anyway and it would be cool to make them Water/Ghost.

Yeah, but the people in charge of this overseeing and how it all fits together are doing a great job and never overdo it, which I really appreciate.

This is a very Western-centric view.

In Eastern culture - you know, where Pokemon originates and all - the spirits of the dead or "ghosts" are seen equally as good and evil. There isn't any real equivalent to "angels"...there are good ghosts and there are bad ghosts.
