5th Gen Competitive Movesets and Metagame

How about this:

Jellicent@Leftovers
Bold
252 HP/176 Def/80 Spe(ed)
Water Absorb

Scald
Toxic
Taunt
Recover

It's a very good status spreader, has 3 immunities (Water/Normal/Fighting) to make a great switch-in, a Spinblocker, and can last incredibly long. Scald and Toxic are for STAB and status, Taunt can make this a lead or a supporter to switch-in to Haxorus, and Recover+Leftovers to remain alive. I chose to put 80 into Speed to have a sure chance at outspeeding other Jellicents, but it all depends on your metagame.

Given tentacruel's suprising speed and decent special attack, I have used it as a life orb attacker instead of a typical support set.
Tentacruel (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Haze

Hydro Pump and Sludge Bomb for STAB, Giga Drain to beat other waters, and Haze to stop stat boosters dead in their tracks. I have mainly used this to counter Conkeldurr. Tentacruel resists fighting and using drain punch takes health from the user and can haze away bulk up boosts.

What does everyone think?

Its a good idea, but as a LO sweeper Starmie outclasses Tentacruel. Starmie has better base speed (Tenta:110,Starmie:115, better special attack (Tenta:80,Starmie:100), and a slightly better movepool (Starmie gets T-bolt, most notably). I'd go with LOMie:

Starmie @ Life Orb
Natural Cure
Timid Nature
252 Sp Att/ 252 Spe/4 HP

- Hydro Pump/Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin/Recover

Here's a Ferrothorn set I've been thinking on:

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Iron Barbs
Sassy nature
252 Def 252 Sp.Def 4 HP

- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Curse

Power Whip is its Grass STAB. Gyro ball hits for MONSTER Damage because Ferrothorn's speed is pathetic. Leech Seed makes it steal HP to cure the little scratches Ferrothorn gets and Curse lowers more speed and make it even bulkier.

These two sets work as a team to ake out terrakion whimsicott combo. Mienshao hits Whimsicott with a powered up fake out, potentially killing it. Then since terrakion uses protect on the first turn, Whimsicott uses encore.

subsheep
Whimsicott @ leftovers
Prankster, Timid Nature
46 Def, 252 SpD, 212 Spd
Substitute
Leech Seed
encore
Cotton Guard
Pretty much a more Offensive Subsheep. Encore stops set ups. Cotton Guard makes Whimsicott really hard to kill, as it is getting healed by leech seed and leftovers. And of Course, this set is a stall, but a little more offensive. works well with mienshao.

Mienshao @ Normal gem
Regenerator, Jolly Nature
252 Atk, 252 Spd
Fake Out
Acrobatics
U-Turn
Hi-Jump-Kick

A fake outer. Fake out/Normal Gem combo is really powerful, And after the item is gone, Acrobatics power doubles. U-Turn is to heal, with regenerator, and Hi-jump-kick is a powerful stab. It is a sweeper that works well with Whimsicott.

Please Pm me with advice if its bad, and if its good, um, you know, tell me its good.

^I would replace cotton guard with taunt, as an opponent could just lock you and you'd be helpless.

Speaking of which,Check out this set I made

Gothitelle
-taunt
-toxic
-protect
-psychic
252 hp 252 def 4 sp def
Shadow tag
Leftovers
Calm

It can't be used given the shadow tag ban, but it is useful. I can trap the opponent, taunt-lock them, and let the toxic damage multiply.

Does anybody know pokemon that is a very good sweeper and a very good wall at the same time if you do can you give me a good move set for it

^I can name plenty, but most are in the uber tier. However, reuniclus fits your criteria quite well.

Reuniclus
-calm mind
-psyshock
-focus blast
-shadow ball
252 hp 252 sp atk 4 def
Magic guard
Life orb
Modest/bold/calm

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Modest Nature
Serene Grace
252 Sp Att/ 252 HP/4 Spe

- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Grass Knot
- Thunderbolt

There are many possibilities for Superachi (CM Rachi), but I like this set best. Jirachi performs amazingly as a bulky sweeper, with 100/100/100 defences. However, any Jirachi set is great as a bulky sweeper, look him up on Smogon.

Reuniclus as mentioned before, except I'd go:

Reuniclus@ Life Orb
Bold nature
252 HP/252 Def/4 SpDef
~Calm Mind
~Psychic
~Focus Blast
~Recover

Otherwise Wish/Calm Mind Jirachi still works great.
JIrachi@ Leftovers
Bold Nature
252 HP/224 Def/32 Speed
~Wish
~Calm Mind
~Psychic
~Thunderbolt

Both are very defensive, and can raise their special attacks so you actually hit for damage.

Suicune or Latios can also work well.

Escavalier @ Quick Claw/???
EVs:252 attack,252 HP,6 whatever
Nature:Brave
Characteristic:Something to do with HP
Ability:Shell Armor
Moveset:
Swords Dance
Megahorn
Iron Head
Poison Jab/something else

First of all,the reason I gave it the Brave nature is because I figured it was already slow enough to where most things can outspeed it,so it wouldn't really matter anyways.Besides,It will usually be on a trick room team. With the way I have things set,Escavalier will basicly be the tank for the team.It already has high defences,so I decided to compliment that with high HP.The reason I put down "poison jab/something else"is because I'm not sure Poison Jab is the best move for this moveset, since everytime I face a Steel type in the Battle Subway,I have difficulties.I gave Escavalier the Quick Claw for when it's not influenced by trick room, which brings me to another matter.I don't know what to give it when it IS infuenced by trick room.

I'd go with Return instead of Poison Jab because it'll do more damage than Poison Jab unless you are facing a Ghost type which you would use Iron Head instead. Shell Armor for abiltiy since I didn't see that listed and probably leftovers since you don't really want to rely on luck.

^^in my opinion, pursuit would be superior to poison jab, as most opponents will switch when they see escavelier.

Palkia@life orb,shiny

Nature:Timid
Characteristic: Well, Iv's in Sp attack, speed, and hp

Moveset:

I have 2, one from smogon, the other one from a friend

Smogon
Spacial rend
Hydro pump
Draco meteor
Thunder or thunderbot

GMD's

Ice beam
Spacial rend
Hydro Pump
thunderbolt

I like both, but im thinking of using the first one and using the lustrous orb since it has 3 dragon/water type attacks. But GMD had a good point by saying, in a crucial moment, it would be better ot have accuracy and various types of moves to make you a good competitive battler. Which one is better?

Well thing is Return still hits harder even when they retreat, though you do not get to damage a retreating opponent. It's a preference.

For the Palkia set, use
Life Orb or Choice Scarf as item
252 SAtk / 252 Spe, 6 HP
Timid Nature
Spacial Rend
Surf
Thunder
Fire Blast

Rain is commonly summoned in Ubers by the likes of Kyogre which is why Thunder is helpful. Fire Blast allows you to dish out great damage to Groudon without losing coverage that Ice Beam would. It also is only 10 less in power when you factor in sun.

I'd go with the second one. With the first one,you have two dragon-type moves. Here's mine:
Palkia @ Lustorous Orb
Nature:Modest
Personality:Something that factors Speed or Spec. Attack
EVs:252 Sp.attack,252 Speed,6 Whatever
Moveset:
Spacial Rend
Surf/Hydro Pump
Ice Beam/Thunder/Thunderbolt(Preferably Thunderbolt or Ice Beam.)
Fire Blast/Flamethrower

With this, you have two moves that cover it's only weakness.(Assuming you go with Ice Beam.)You'll also have two moves to compliment the Lustorous Orb.Depending on what move you go with, you'll be able to counter Kyogre/Groudon.

I have a few myself.

547Erufuun.gif

Whimsicott@Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Speed
Nature: Jolly

~ Worry Seed
~ U-Turn
~ Leech Seed
~ Encore

You might be wondering "LOLWUT why Worry Seed?" Well, it packs quite a suprise. You know that Doryuuzu that keeps taking out all of your pogemanz? Well, Worry Seed it and it won't be as fast as it was. That Ludicolo/Kabutops abusing the rain? Worry Seed them and they'll be slow again. Omg Poison Heal Gliscor? Worry Seed says "well, you're poisoned and it hurts now" same with Breloom, Skill Link Cloyster etc. Encore is for Set Up users, Leech Seed to take out that extra health and U-turn to retreat when things look bad.

Nidoking@Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
4 HP / 252 Sp. Atk / 252 Speed
Nature: Timid

~ Earth Power
~ Flamethrower
~ Ice Beam
~ Thunderbolt

Dear God this thing is amazing. While it does run up to 295 Speed, this thing outruns quite a few Pokemon, and with quite a coverage to match. Thanks to Sheer Force, Life Orb damage is NEGATED, meaning it gains a helpful boost all without the recoil. Anyone seeing all those pesky Gliscors running around? Welllll, this thing outspeeds and proceeds to OHKO it back with Ice Beam. Have some mad prediction skills and know your opponent has a Gyarados? Welllll, OUTSPED and OHKO'd by Thunderbolt. Heck, if Heatran isn't scarfed Nidoking with OHKO, and if you have trouble with pesky Brelooms? OHKO'd with Flamethrower.

065.png

Alakazam@Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Nature: Timid

- Substitute/ Energy Ball / Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast
- Psyshock

You might be asking yourself right now "Wtfudge, why is this guy posting two UU Pokemon?" Well, these two Pokemon are amazing in the OU tiers, as I myself use them, heck, they are even good just sending them out due to having the element of suprise and may lead to the foe swapping Pokemon, anyways, back to Alakazam. OMGYES a faster Reuniclus, well, actually, the thing that sets these two apart is the fact that Alakazam is much, much frailer then Reuniclus, with bad enough HP. But, do not let that stop you from using Alakazam. Alakazam is amazing, reaching the very fast speed of 372, allowing him to outspeed and KO or dent almost any Pokemon in the metagame. Anyways Alakazam gained a new and very dangerous toy over this Generation transition in the Physical hitting yet Special move Psyshock, allowing it to hit and kill Chansey and any other Special Walls. Focus Blast is for coverage and Calm Mind does so many wonders with Alakazam, but use it only when you think you can, due to the frailness of this Pokemon, using this has a high risk/high reward factor, inso that Calm Mind provides you with much higher Sp Atk that isn't already needed to kill off most Pokemon. Substitute is there (yes, I know Alakazam already ignores most status problem damage) for blocking off crippling paralysis, as a slow Alakazam is, alas, a dead Alakazam. Energy Ball can be used if you think you'll have issues with Bulky Water types, Shadow Ball is also an option should you want to hit opposing Psychics or Ghosts for super effective damage.

Lustorous Orb is ok, but there are better items for it. Choice Scarf makes it an excellent revenge killer only being walled by Blissey / Chansey. If you go the Choice Scarf route, its possible to go with a modest nature instead of timid since you are going to be outpacing the other base 100s anyway, just be careful of losing Speed ties to other scarf modest Palkia. Timid makes sure if they aren't timid and scarfed that you will be first which can be crucial in some situations.

Hydro Pump is not an attack you should really be using in Ubers because many Pokemon have the ability Pressure. This makes it so your move loses 1 extra PP. That means you only would have 4 Hydro Pump to work with if you only strike Pokemon that have pressure. Surf is slightly less power, but has perfect accuracy and much more PP. In ubers it is worth the sacrifice of power for the accuracy and PP. As a master of Ubers, I can tell you if I used Hydro Pump instead of Surf, I would lose a lot more matches not only due to PP issues, but to misses as well.

If a Pokemon can learn a dragon type move and an ice one, always go with the dragon type move, excluding Dragon Rage and Dragon Breath. While it may not hit as many types supereffectively, it is only resisted by steel types. With Palkia's massive 150 SAtk, Spacial Rend puts a serious dent in anything that doesn't resist it or is named Blissey / Chansey. If you are going to be having a fire type move on it anyway, you don't need an ice type one. Ice doesn't really help coverage much since steel are still resistant and fire moves still cover Skymin.

Thunder is generally better to use in Ubers because many teams use Kyogre which summons a permanent rain, causing Thunder to have perfect accuracy. It also has a 30% chance to paralyze the opponent compared to Thunderbolt's 10%. The extra power is also very helpful against Lugia who has 150 SDef. You need to paralyze the Lugia to beat it with Palkia or at least move before it because if Lugia uses Roost, you lost 2 PP of Thunder to only do neutral damage since Roost negates its flying type.

I know it seems like I am ripping your set apart. I am just trying to help teach you why some things aren't as good as you might think. I'd rather have you learn what is better than let you use movesets that aren't as optimal.

It depends on the Gliscor's EVs and nature entirely. Gliscor can reach 317 Speed as its maximum, but like I said, it depends on the EVs and nature.

Mark, Lutrous Orb is a fine item on specific sets, especially specially and physically based ones with like the 20% raise in dragon and water type moves with almost no drawbacks. It can also bluff a choice item while its at it. Choice Scarf is a very good set, however.
