RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

The set DNA posted is the best Aggron can ever hope to achieve.

Why do you want Snarl on a Zoroark? I know that its an event Pokemon, but Snarl is a terrible move. Dark Pulse or Night Daze outclass it by leaps and bounds. If you're heart is set on it though, then Snarl/Flamethrower/Focus Blast/U Turn would be a set that I'd recommend.

Sharpedo needs Protect, as Speed Boost is what makes it a threat. Waterfall and Crunch work off of its higher attack stat, but going mixed with Surf or Ice Beam is better. A set of Protect/Water Attack (Surf or Waterfall)/Crunch/Ice Beam is surprisingly good.

As for Crobat, his attacking stats are very meh (90 attack doesn't cut it nowadays). Crobat's Super Fang will, therefore, be his main form of damage. A set of Super Fang/Taunt/Roost/Brave Bird works well.

You didn't ask for EV spreads. If you'd like them, let me know and I'll give them to you.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Sharpedo can also run Hidden Power Fire, along with its two STABs, as its only hope to break through Ferrothorn, but even with a positive Sp. Atk nature and 252 Sp. Attack EVs, it's a 2hko. Ice Beam provides more coverage, but it's up to your preference. If you're going to go mixed, run Hydro Pump over Waterfall / Surf. It lets you break through physical walls more easier.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Sharpedo has no business fighting Ferrothorn, let alone going mixed.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Its physical movepool isn't big enough to fill three spots (Earthquake provides zero coverage and Ice Fang has a very low damage output), and the rest of its moves are supportive or special. 95 base Sp. Atk is actually decent, and you can place EVs in it since your Atk is already massive and there's no point in dumping all your EVs in speed (although you need to dump enough in speed to outspace positive base 90's). Going mixed is really the only option for Sharpedo.

Plus if you don't go mixed you have a not so fun time with physical walls.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Aqua Jet is used in the last slot to help prevent getting revenged. He's an endgame sweeper, of course he's not getting past Skarmory and friends. They should be long gone or sufficiently weakened before attempting a sweep.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Why would you need a priority move if you have Speed Boost?

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Using priority doesn't really matter after you have three speed boosts, and everything with priority really can't be stopped:

252 Atk Adamant Aqua Jet vs 120 HP Brave Conkeldurr: 24.4% - 29.1%
252 Atk Adamant Aqua Jet vs 252 HP Adamant Scizor: 24.4% - 29.1%
252 Atk Adamant Aqua Jet vs 4 HP Adamant or Jolly idk Lucario: 41.8% - 50%

The damage output of Aqua Jet isn't that great, and it really only helps against things like Excadrill who you need three boosts to outspace. You're just better off running Protect + STABs + Coverage move in my opinion, as then you can break through walls easily. Priority users, unfortunately, are going to troll you.

With Stealth Rock and Hydro Pump, Skarmory in no way is a problem for Sharpedo.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I've been thinking about the idea of Sand+Trick Room team for this upcoming VGC season.I'm not so sure,so I wanted to ask you guys what you think.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Trick room always has and, always WILL be great in VGC. I know Trick Room sand took 2nd in worlds 2 years ago, however in that year, Ubers such as Kyogre and Groudon were allowed, so it was used more to counter those pokemon. I'm not sure how useful it would be today, but since Tyranitar has about the same speed as a guy with a piano strapped to his back, as well as the fact that he hits like a truck, It's certainly worth a shot. Make sure to run something to take out Beat Up/Justified Whimsicott/Terrakion though.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I really don't think it'll work. Offensive Sand teams really like having their attributes boosted (The +50% Sp.D boost for Rock types, Sand Rush and Sand Power), and neither Landorus or Excadrill like being slow. If you're using sand just for residual damage, I think Tyranitar's spot it is a bit of a wasted spot, with its weaknesses to Earthquake and Surf.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Hey guys.

I've been looking around for a set for Aron in 5th Gen. The one I'm looking for is the one that spams Endeavor and Shell Bell while having the Sturdy Ability. I've been looking around for a while, and I still haven't found it. Could somebody provide me with a skeleton set?

Thanks. :)

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

I've heard about it a bunch but I've never used it or played against it.

Lv. 1 Aron @ Shell Bell
Sturdy
0 IVs/Evs
-Endeavor
-Protect
-Roar
-Toxic

This is the set I would use. It definitely needs Sandstorm support.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Rapid Spin support is also essential, as Aron can't afford to take damage from Spikes, Toxic Spikes or Stealth Rock. Burn and Poison also cause a lot of problems, but its hard to deal with them.

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Wow, do you think Aron would make a good VGC Pokemon? Perhaps partnered with T-Tar?

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

No. With two opponents, Aron can be hit twice in one turn. One hit breaks sturdy, the second outright kills it.

Unless you run something like Magic Guard Clefable with Follow Me (switch out Ttar into Clefable, Aron uses Protect), Lv.1 Aron isn't going to work well.

Good luck with being Taunt-bait.

Endeavor works through Taunt.

And like Bippa said, you need Rapid Spin. If Aron is damaged by SR or Spikes everything falls apart.

Ah, forgot that they could hit twice. XD Thanks. :)

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Imprison.
Gimmick move.

Besides Dusknoir (who popularized the move), what Pokemon can use this move effectively? I can think of Bronzong, Landorus, and maybe Zoroark, but are there any others? Or are the choices I gave just totally lame to use Imprison with anyway?

RE: The Competitive Battling Questions Thread

Imprison is a solid move in VGC when paired with Trick Room on the same Pokemon, as it effectively shuts down the team. But outside of that, its an incredibly gimmicky move. In Singles, it can be remedied by switching out (which isn't as easy to do in doubles).
