Well I don't see any setting for it. Time for me to go digging through tons and tons of KB in files to find it.

Managed to find the problem in the MyBB files. I set it to 120 because that is the maximum length the field is. If I had PHPMyAdmin access I could make it longer.

There is no reason you have to have a mile long bio. It is only suppose to be a couple sentences about yourself. It is not a spam zone.
Does my bio look like a spam zone to you? The 4 longest bios on Pokebeach (DNA, ShadowLugia, PMJ, and bacon) all follow the same basic structure (about self, friends list, and then some random tidbits of amusement) - and they aren't "spam zones" at all. In fact, they're all actually incredibly informative in many respects, and incredibly well-organized. I myself look over my bio every so often and trim out unnecessary content to keep it from getting too long, but a lot of what is there is necessary.

...It's also impossible to really fully describe one's self in "a couple sentences". A couple paragraphs, yes; a couple sentences, not even close. I like to tell people about myself, my friends, things to do on the forums, and what I enjoy myself - and I'm sure others like to do the same. So why am I being punished for it?

I was talking with a few peeps last night on the chat (Teapot, TDL, SL, and Afro-G), and they all share my opinion. I am not alone in this here. The bio cap of 10000 characters is not only unnecessary, but it's also unfair.

I think I can confirm this. I find the limit extremely unneccessary. It's not like anybody with that many characters is spamming their bios. (I have 5th longest bio btw). I don't se a reason we need a character limit. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Shining Raikou and I both are in the same position on bio length.

I have found a plugin that lets it so you can reply to your own threads in Rulings. If you can't reply and should be able to, let me know.

Mark's position? I think he said it in this thread, not too long ago.
My position? I think I said it in this thread, not too long ago.

My point isn't that you two agree. My point is that it isn't necessary.
Do we have any problems with people having long bios using them as a spam section? No. Thus, there isn't any need to restrict it.

If there is a limit that you guys don't know how to take off, then sure.

But I can't think of any logical reason to self-impose a limit.

I can't honestly what harm has ever been done with an unrestricted bio length. There's that phrase "don't fix what's not broken." All this limit has proven to do is cause trouble, not get rid of any.

The original limit was 65535, i.e. the maximum possible allowable.

Let me talk to WPM about it, if there is no logical reason to retain a limit on the bio characters it will be removed.

I've seen a few people changed their usernames sometime early in the year of 2012 and now they are changing back to their old usernames. Literally, what is happening to the one year rule?

TDL and DNA's name changes were admin decisions. They didn't specifically ask to be changed; they would have followed the one-year rule as they should.

Thank you.
Honestly, I really cannot think of any logical reason as to why there needs to be a cap. If people were abusing the bio system and just putting a bunch of characters in for no reason, then yeah, I would understand that just fine. But right now no one's really abusing bio privileges at all, so it seems almost like a punishment.
If people want to expand and talk about more than just themselves in their bios, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed to...

Are you referring to TDL and I? because I think we're the only people that have had that happen to.
Basically, allowances were made for he and I to hop back because of how we help out the forum and such, so we were permitted by SR to hop back to our old usernames.
(Translation: TDL and I both disliked our new usernames, so I bugged SR and other peeps on and off a few months about it, then SR said I was special and changed it back, which prompted TDL to do the exact same thing.)

But yes, if the admin wouldn't have done it, we would have both asked at the start of 2013 anyway.

If that is ok I'd make it so anyone can switch back -__- seems like favorites.

It...yeah, it probably is, isn't it.
An addendum could be added that you could switch back to your old username, but you'd have to wait X months before doing so (a number between 3 and 6 is probably ideal).

What does the 'Username Changes' count mean in the profile? Not everybody wants to see it; and I currently have 'zero', when I really was supposed to have one. (Yes, I changed my username from LuckyPokeGirl to Lucky Fire.)

It was a plug-in added by King Arceus. I was confused at first at why it remains at 0 for everyone, but since it was just installed it will be at 0 and will track all changes from now on.
