NBA Discussion Thread

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

I'm not too sure what to make of Trey Burke's performance today. He can't finish in traffic at all, he shot 1-12 from the line, and his performance when trying to get a shot off for him or his teammates was mediocre, if not terrible. I don't want to write him off on just a summer league game, but such a terrible showing like that can't be ignored.

Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk, Plumlee bros, MCW (kind of), and Andre Drummond all had a good day.

Stern blocks Kevin Durant's engagement to Monica Wright.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Stern better get ready for a shitstorm.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

It was a The Onion article lol.

I'm still pissed about the Chris Paul lakers trade. I think such measures should only be taken in extreme situations, such as if teams give all of the best players to one team in exchange for profit shares under the table.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

Reggie Jackson just went off for an NBA Summer League record 35 points (23 in the 4th quarter) in the Thunder's win over the Pistons today. Just yesterday, Jeremy Lamb hit a game-winner against Orlando. The Thunder's young guns are looking good.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

I know it's just Summer League, but Kelly Olynk is looking like the biggest draft steal so far. He's got good range, ball handling skills, rebounding, and a great post game. Boston potentially found a good piece to help them through their rebuilding.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

... and Lamb goes for 32. Whoever trains these young guns at OKC deserves a huge raise.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

So I'm kind of on the fence about the Cavs signing Bynum.

Sure he could be a help, but I was fine with having Andy.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

The signing is a bit perplexing, just like the Warriors going after Iguodala, but perhaps Cavs management fears that Varejao won't be the rebounding machine he was last year, or that he'll possibly have injury issues (but then, what does signing Bynum get you in that regard?).

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

I suppose if Andy turns out healthy and well, he could be good trade material. I'm not sure that the cavs have any big plans other than LBJ though.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

There's no question that a healthy Bynum is an upgrade over Varejao both offensively and defensively (though Varejao is a good post defender). I see the signing as a major risk-reward move for the Cavs. If Bynum stays healthy, the Cavs are easily a playoff team. If not, they can cut their losses and get a good pick in the 2014 Draft assuming they look to trade one of their other big men. Plus, the Cavs didn't burn all their money and trade assets like the Sixers did to get Bynum; he's only guaranteed six million in his first year, with incentives in the instance he stays healthy.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

The Cavs didn't put a lot of money into this, so if Bynum flames out again, Cleveland wouldn't have been really burned by this deal; because it's a low risk-high reward kind of thing.

It would be awesome to see him sign with the Pistons, play one or two more years, then retire as a Piston. Most likely, however, he'll look to sign with a team that has championship aspirations as a veteran.

You're right, he's going to sign with Pistons for two years. Their backcourt does need help, and Brandon Knight is a young pg that needs to learn under a vet like Billups.

Pistons bring back rip hamilton plox

The Pistons won't be contenders with just adding J-Smoove and a couple of players past their prime, but they'll be a fun team to watch. At least the East is attempting to get stronger collectively, and with Rose coming back for the Bulls, the Heat won't have an easy run to the Finals again.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

I noticed no one commented on the Knicks giving up Camby, Novak, Q-Rich, two 2nd round picks, and a 1st round pick just to get Bargnani.

What the actual fuk?

Then, they resigned J.R. Smith, who single-handedly bricked the Knicks out of the 2013 playoffs.

Knicks gonna knick

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

Bargnani and JR Smith are the embodiment of the Knicks' history of choking and never living up to expectations. I applaud the Knicks for picking great mascots to replace Spike Lee.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

Just more of a reason for Melo to go to LA.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

Apparently, some people (GMs and owners) think some shady business went down between AK47 and the Nets' Russian owner for AK to take $3 million as opposed to $10 million.

Speaking of the Nets, their roster looks stacked. Lopez, KG, Pierce, Johnson, and Williams to start, with Terry, Evans, Livingston, Blatche, and AK47 giving good minutes off the bench. I still don't like the team because it looks like the cast to the next The Expendables movie, but I do think it is probably one of the best looking teams out east provided they all stay healthy.

RE: The Official NBA Discussion Thread

The Nets' bench alone could contend for the 8th seed in the East. The Nets have solid backups, who can start if necessary, for their most injury-prone positions. They could seriously contend with the Heat if they develop the chemistry needed this season.
