TCG Fakes Neo Redux: A Triumphant Return? (Image Based) // Gee, you're big.

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: This is MEGA cool(er)!

Making new blanks now, based on the Gym cards...but with Neo swooshes like the dual-type cards I've made. Kinda sad I'm giving up the Pokédex entries, though...coming up with new ones was fun!

Hopefully with a new rule, Reg, the cards won't be so underpowered!

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: This is MEGA cool(er)!

Maybe it's just me, but I think that, in the OP, the Blastoise link goes to the Mega card and vice-versa.
Also, I really like your work and your dedication. Keep it up!

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: This is MEGA cool(er)!

Yeah, lvX would definitely fit better, considering it's almost exactly how Mega Evolution works in the game (which makes it kind of odd for the TCG to have picked the rule they did). It's also one of the more fun gimmicks in my opinion, since instead of balancing power with drawbacks (which is problematic in the case of EX because the drawback comes far later, if at all) it continued to scale power with how hard it is to play (which is how almost every other TCG does it). LvX and Legends (1 Pokémon per set, not like the double dogs) were the only over-powered stuff I could really get behind for this reason.
If you do copy the lvX mechanic, it might be best to add the same-name clause as well, otherwise there's a chance especially the mega basics end up being a bit too overpowered.

Also, can't you use the same lay-out as the Baby rule? It seems like it's in the right spot and it has the room for an evolution symbol (although I guess it's below the image because it signifies 'evolves into,' so that might be a bit weird). If you're going to allow megas to use the attacks and powers of the card underneath you don't really need the extra space, so the blanks are probably fine as-is in that case. But I'm sure what you're trying to do now will turn out great, so don't let me stop you from trying.

Thanks for catching that, Jackal! Should be fixed now. =)

Yeah, I think I'll stick with the LV. X rule. Like you said, it makes so much more sense than the current M-Pokémon rule.

Funny you should mention the Baby rule, as I tried to copy the aesthetics of that in the Mega rule box; I agree, though, that the evolution symbol would look slightly out-of-place. Maybe I'll just leave the cards as-is and replace the rule for now. I'll work on the alternate rule box placement, too, and see which turns out better.

UPDATE:

Megavenusaurnewrule.png
I think I still prefer the original set-up (but with the new rule). If Megas are able to use their old Powers and attacks, the space taken up by the rule box isn't much of an issue. Plus, it's reminiscent of the Baby rule (which is what I based it on anyway). Not to mention the difficulty it would take to make new blanks for the custom-types in Gym style -- and that's before I add the Neo swooshes.

Thoughts?

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: This is MEGA cool(er)!

For what it's worth, I think the second style is more aesthetically pleasing to me, perhaps because it looks more how I remember the cards of that era. If that makes sense.

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: This is MEGA cool(er)!

You forgot a "to" in the last sentence. I'm not sure I would word it that way either, because now it sounds like you can't use 4 Erika's Venusaur and 4 Venusaur in the same deck. I know the Unown did it that way, but was never a Sabrina's Unown G or anything similar. It might be best to leave that line out and mention it in the hypothetical rulebook included with the hypothetical starter decks, it looked better with only 2 lines anyway.

... hmmmm, you could also limit the number of Mega evolution cards to 1 per deck, which would sort of be like limiting the number of Mega Evolutions you can use in battle like in the games. That way you don't need to worry about limiting the number of potential Venusaur: 1 Mega and 4 regulars is all you can have. You can steal the text from the Shining cards as well, you can even put the text in the same place if you do use the Baby-box.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys!

I like the evo-thingamajig at the top, so I think I'll keep that. Like you said, it would seem strange to have the evo-circle at the bottom of the card. I'll probably just replace the last line with the 1 per deck rule and see how it looks...

Great Rule. That's how Modern Mega Evos should be, but then they would be winning every tournament.

Not really if the modern mega were t o bex based on their stage it will make a large different

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: What's to come?

While spoilers are finalized for the remaining Kalos Pokémon and Mega Evolutions, I figured it's time to bring back something I started and never finished (that's a lot less daunting than the Unowns). Complete with the updated holosheet (and blanks), here's a preview...
Arceuspreview.png
...yes, I'll finally be working on the Arceus subset. A big reason why I stopped was because I wanted art that matched, and now that Pokédex 3D exists (/late), I'll be able to render the different types and give them cool type-specific backgrounds, much like the Fire/Electric/Grass/Water Arceus.

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: What's to come?

I've been out of town (read: without Photoshop) the past few days, so I haven't been able to work on image-based stuff, but I have been finishing up the Arceus card spoilers! I was wondering if any of you would be so kind as to be a "spoiler-checker" if you will...review wording, effects and the like. Working on a tablet, I can't guarantee anything fancy (more like plain text), but you'd get a sneak peak at about 10 or so new cards.

I'd appreciate it!

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: Grass and Poison Arceus, oh my.

Lots to update in 493c (Fire), but I'll try my hand at 493d (Flying) and updating 493e (Water) ASAP!

RE: Neo Redux: I'm not dead! UPDATE: Grass and Poison and Fire and Flying Arceus, oh my.

Okay, so I lied. It wasn't as much work to update Arceus (Fire) as I thought. So here are Fire and Flying!

As always, comments/critiques welcome, appreciated, and encouraged!

The Arceus look amazing, CMP!
I like that you are including the plates. The fire one took me a while to find, but now I just feel stupid for not noticing it was on fire in the first place. -.-

Thanks, KoN, and good eye! Yeah, the theme deck art (Fire and Lightning) and wallpaper art (Grass and Water) included the plates, so I figured I'd follow suit and add them as I go. I was experimenting with adding feathers to the Sky Plate's trail, but I couldn't find a way without it looking out-of-place.

Next up should be Water and Bug. Water just needs an update, and I have spoilers/art for Bug, so I'm thinking they'll be up early tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to it! I couldn't find the fire plate though, could you point it out?

It's cut off of the image, but you can see the fiery trail left in its wake. It's on the side of the Arceus set Fire deck:

RE: Neo Redux: Now with more Arceus! UPDATE: Water and Bug!

That's Latin, actually.

RE: Neo Redux: Now with more Arceus! UPDATE: Water and Bug!

There seems to be a misplaced text layer on the Fire one, 'Arceus' can be seen in the top right corner of the picture.

Also, it's sort of sad how grass Arceus' power is so much worse than grass'. Grass seems a bit overpowered, it can be used either to paralyse or to add at least 1 damage, both of which are very useful in almost any deck, especially coming from a Basic Pokémon (with 120HP and only 1 retreat, no less). The other options would probably only serve a purpose when you specifically need those conditions for a strategy, but they do make it that much more versatile. I'm not sure how to limit its effectiveness without taking away too much of its specialness, though. Maybe just limit it to sleep and poison? That would still be pretty good, but at least not nearly as versatile.

I think you may have intended for Fire Arceus' power to be once per turn, but then changed your mind? It seems awfully weak for a once-only power.

Everything else looks great, though.
