I noticed that too, and I'm curious about which friends don't get a starter...
The example nickname was x-meister hahah

I think that Serena/Calem probably gets a starter. Maybe Trevor does too. I wonder what the non-starter pokemon that the other friends get are. Maybe heloptile said:
I think Shauna might have a Sylveon since she has all those ribbons. That's one gone. I can see Trevor having a starter. And Serena/Calem will most likely get one too. Now to figure out what Tierno might have

I agree with the starter people, but i somehow doubt that Shauna would have a Sylveon. Maybe she will get a shutterbug or something, but I don't think they will use eevee as the starter of a rival for another time. Starters tend to stick to their regions, but I could be wrong.

Well we were talking about Kirlia/Gardevoir for Tierno. I think you may be right but Syleon is Kalos. I guess we'll have to see when more pokemon are revealed if they fit the bill.

I completely forgot about Wally, sorry. In that case, Tierno's pokemon is probably something else such as belossom, especially if it is re-typed or more likely, some other native pokemon that we don't know of yet .

I can honestly see Bellossom being retyped to Grass/Fairy. Maractus may be another possibility for Tierno's pokemon and possibly retyping but I kinda doubt the retyping.

After the insider information turned out to be right, there might be another possibility to allow all five trainers of your group to begin their adventure with a "real" starter Pokemon:

"Another professor named Sycamore gives you either Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle."

Given that your character will pick a Kalos and a Kanto starter, there are two starters of each region left for Serena/Calem, Shauna, Trevor and Tierno.

I agree that Serena/Calem and Trevor might be the ones who get a Kalos starter, too, because despite being your friends they seem to be your rivals, too (one in terms of battling / becoming champion and one in terms of completing the Pokédex). Shauna's character seems to be somewhat similar to Bianca's: always cheerful and helpful, but also a little bit hyped-up, while Tierno might be used to showcase a new feature of the games á la Contests/Musicals, but mainly based on dancing Pokemon.

Well they apparently want to have this game connect with other regions. I love Shauna so I can't say anything bad about her ._. I think you're right about her being like Bianca and you may be right about Tierno and the Contest/musical.

I kind of doubt that you will get the Kanto starter that early. You probably would get it after completing something. I still am skeptical about this leaker and I am a bit wary of some of the later stuff.

Okay, this is what I gathered from the official site:
-Trevor gives you the pokedex, and you will compete with him to fill each part of kalos (central, coastal, etc). he will probably be like cheren.
-Shauna striked me more like barry than bianca, bianca was ditzy, but barry was a spaz; mybe she's like a mix of bianca's naiveté and easygoing nature and barry's rashness. You set your name at the begining, and later she will refer to you by a nickname of your choice.
-Tierno is... a strange choice, when I first saw him the last thing I would have thought is "dance". Maybe he has something to do with the source of the starters (professor's son?).
-The other PC will be probably the leader of the group, your main rival (like blue) and guide (like brendan). It's interesting that he/she doesn't have a hat, while you do, the hats are probably optional later on.

And a last thing... FAMILY RYHORN! AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

"Follow the paths in Vaniville Town to your neighbor's house, or out into the Kalos region."

Doesn't mention a lab, so you may be on to something.

Also, this gen does seem to be setting new boundaries. What if they break the 3 starter tradition and give us 2 more starters to choose from? Would certainly be something new.

If they were adding two starters to the traditional three, they probably would have told us by now. We probably would have gotten them with the original starters or the new rivals.

We might not have to fight all of the rivals anyway. There could only be two "official rivals" that have the starters, and then the others have various mascot Pokemon with them. I'm betting on Trevor and Other Gender Protag being the main rivals.

I still have a feeling we're going to meet the professor soon. They probably don't have as major of a role as before, seeing as Trev is the main Pokedex guy. I'm thinking that they'll appear in the next issue, along with the enemy team and legendary info.

Maybe the only Professor really is Sycamore but you only meet him/her later in the game.
Shauna says in one of the snapshots (facing to Tierno):
"Hey! Can we see the Pokémon now? I want to meet my new partner soon! ♪" kinda like "stop talking and hurry up, show them!".
Maybe you do get some sort of package like @MewMew suggested earlier and it could have been handed over by Patrice, the Professor's assistant.

I don't think you meet the professor until later in the game, maybe even post game.

Kind of like in BW2 how you didn't really see or hear much from Juniper until you reached Mistralton City, and Bianca filled the early game "professor" role.

I wonder who gives you your starter, then?

The website claims he wants to make abdance group with pokemon, so I'd assume something that can dance..?
Maractus, Bellossom, Roserade, etc. I can easily see him being a grass-type trainer if he goes in this direction.

Despite the Vanillite on his shirt.
Ludicolo would also fit in the category of dancing Pokémon.

Maybe the remaining starter doesnt get used? I could see the other three getting a 3-stage mon though. [If that Teirno gets a Noivern (eventually) im gonna flip. Noise Wyvern, the 'boombox bat']

Since this region seems to be going the way of usual 'second version' games [platinum, B2/W2, what with other mons being available in the wild or something idk] Maybe the other people get non-Kalos mons for starters? Unlikely, just throwing it out there.

What if one of your friends, after the game, takes on the title of the professor? They just completed their journey and they know enough that they become the researcher of the region.

Here is how the starters will work

You- Kalos and Kanto Starter
Serena/Callum- Kalos starter that is strong against your kalos starter
Trevor- Kanto Starter that is strong to your kanto starter
Tierno- Kalos starter that is weak to kalos starter
Shauna- Kanto Starter that is weak to your kanto starter

I still doubt that they will give you two starters at the beginning of the game, that seems highly unlikely.

I can see Trevor (orange hair) filling this role easily. The site says he's an excellent student, wants to complete his Pokedex first or something like that.

I can see all of them going on their different paths at the end of the game/late game.
Tierno could end up being in a dance group or a dance teacher
Trevor could end up as the Prof's assistant or having his own small lab in the starting town
Shauna is a bit hard to decipher since she doesn't have her own dream, it mentions that she's searching for one. I can see her end up being a Pokemon carer or something, or maybe even a Gym Leader.
Then Calem/Serena would stay on the same dream as you are, and continues with the friendly rival thing.

This generation is completely different from what we already know, so it's really hard to make assumptions based off of past games.

I've heard numerous times that the Kanto starters will be like DLC as a pre-order from Gamestop and select places. If that's true, then it would make sense to get them whenever in-game. However, I doubt that you will get 2 starters in the beginning. It's not about being canon and receiving only one, but I'm sure they want us to focus on their new starters. 2 of the characters may not even get Pokémon right away.

For some reason I see Tierno and Trevor traveling together. Trevor could just travel with someone to collect data rather than care about battling himself. Sort of like Max from Gen 3 anime (Note that Max never obtained any Pokémon, but befriended them).

I don't think anyone would receive an Eevee as a starter, they revealed Sylveon first to showcase a new type and create speculation. That doesn't necessarily mean that Sylv will be a key player within our main characters as there are sure to be many other fairy types as well.

I am interested in what the Professor looks like though. I still believe that in the northern part where the autumn trees are, the northern most building in that town looks like a lab. The Professor could be there. I personally like the idea of the professor not being too familiar with the trainer or critically that important in general. It always struck me as odd that the Professor must know tons of people, yet you are one of the only ones he talks to on a regular basis when there are many other trainers under him.
