I noticed that too, and I'm curious about which friends don't get a starter...
The example nickname was x-meister hahah

I think that Serena/Calem probably gets a starter. Maybe Trevor does too. I wonder what the non-starter pokemon that the other friends get are. Maybe heloptile, pancham or flabebe? I doubt they will have the same types as one of the starters and they will probably be three staged evolutions.

I think Shauna might have a Sylveon since she has all those ribbons. That's one gone. I can see Trevor having a starter. And Serena/Calem will most likely get one too. Now to figure out what Tierno might have

I think she has all those ribbons to simulate Gothitelle/Gothorita like how the big guy has the Vanillite on his shirt

For some reason I see Tierno and Trevor traveling together. Trevor could just travel with someone to collect data rather than care about battling himself. Sort of like Max from Gen 3 anime (Note that Max never obtained any Pokémon, but befriended them).
I like that idea. I could see Trevor and Tierno not having their own Pokemon at first and just following Serena/Calem and Shauna around and studying their Pokemon for data and dance moves.

What if Tierno actually gets a Vanillite, and Shauna gets a Gothita? Would make little sense, only based on their appearances, but they /are/ both 3 evo mons.

Pokemon only evolve twice at most actually, but I get what you mean ;)

I think they're just wearing pokemon inspired clothing, I don't really think it represents their team more so it represents their personalities/ likes.

Tierno's a big guy, a sweet pokemon probably appeals to him.

Shauna is cheerful and filled with bliss, gothia's line isn't so cheerful but the design elements are probably something she likes and wanted an outfit to reflect that. Kind of like the poke cosplayer trainers in the previous games, none of them had a charizard as far as I remember.

EDIT: Nvm, none of them did have a charizard but they did have charmander and charmeleon...

I think Sky Pillar means that it has three stages.
Also, I think that the other friends will receive Gen VI pokemon based on their likes. If you chose a pokemon, wouldn't it somewhat resemble your likes and dislikes (part of your personality)?
Maybe flabebe if it evolves twice, maybe helioptile, maybe pancham. I bet that Shauna will have this gen's herdier. For some reason, I think that Tierno will have a three stage fairy type starter.

I could see Shauna starting out with an Eevee since her design is similar to that of Sylveon. Shauna wears pink, has long ribbon-like pigtails, and she has bows down her shirt.

I didn't notice that, but I still think that Sylveon is not going to be a starter because eevee already was and Sylveon hype seemed just for the fairy type and not a starter. I get a feeling that she might have a normal type hat stays normal type. Maybe something like herdier. Also she might have the mightyena of this generation.

Out of the group of friends, I think I'll like Shauna more. I still haven't developed much of an opinion of these new characters, though I do like that we'll have four friends to embark on new journeys with.

I think that maybe you in the game have to order your Pokémon, and eventually it will arrive in your mail. That would be sweet, actually.

I agree, I'll either like Shauna or Serena (I'm male so not Calem) the most because Serena is more competitive.

Why can't Eevee be someone's starter? It already has been twice - in Yellow (rival) and Collosseum (you, as Umbreon and Espeon).

Don't forget XD! Your starter in that is an actual unevolved Eevee.

I don't know anything about XD except that it has shadow Lugia. lol

Let's try not to get too off topic.

I think the chances of not having a professor are pretty low considering we've gotten a new one every generation and the leaker said we'd actually have two.

Maybe the professor lives in a town far away and sends tierno the starters and trevor the pokedexes to share with the others. I've no idea of how they are gonna fix that whole "three starters and five characters" issue, though.

Or, maybe the thing is: how do trainers who live away from the regional professor start? maybe this guys live away from the prof, and as such they get the pokemon sent to them, or pick them up from the pokemon center, one starter each and you get one, tierno and shauna get the one that is weak to yours and your rival and trevor get the one that is strong agains yours. Later, you get one of those from tierno/trevor/shauna.

Not every trainer gets a starter from a professor. In fact most trainers in the Pokemon world don't. They get them from befriending, fishing, saving, breeding, as a gift, etc.

Perhaps one of your friends (Trevor) is a young child-genius professor. =P Who, for once, wants to actually fill out the Pokedex himself.

I can easily see Trevor becoming a professor's apprentice in the post-game. He could eventually take the role as the full professor and build a lab in Vaniville Town.

Unless one of the friends is the professor. It is not impossible for that to happen, a young child genius like Lex said is totally possible and it also happens in real life as well.

Also I just need to say this and it took like five to six generations for me to figure this out . . . why don't the evil teams have their own professor to give them better pokemon? I would love an evil team that gives you a real challenge I.E.using starter pokemon.

Well back on topic of the professor situation. Oak is the one who seems to have invented the original version of the Pokedex right? By this I mean the mechanical one and not the type where you drew everything. Everyone else who has given you one had basically expanded on that it seems. Now imagine a genius child doing the exact same and obtaining status as a professor. Cheren could have been the professor in Black 2/White 2 if they wanted him to be the professor but sadly he was not but he got the next best thing other than champion or elite four member, gym leader.

I was wondering why does he need to be a child genius? From what I have seen in Pokemon you dont need to be overly intelligent to be a Professor, mainly just someone with an almost borderline obsession about pokemon and getting children to fill out a pokedex.

The professors are probably smarter than said children if you think about it but a child-genius for a professor would mix things up a bit, ya know like how the main games have not had a female professor before the fifth generation.
