'Star Wars: Episode VII Adds Academy Award Winner Lupita Nyong'o and Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie

Lupita Nyong'o joins the recently announced cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. This year, her breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Gwendoline Christie, currently starring in the hit television series Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth, has also been cast in the production. She can next be seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2.

"I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "It's thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape."

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the Saga Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

I'm really curious as to what their role will be. I wish that Lupita started as a Jedi apprentice and then in latter movies becomes a Dark Jedi (no pun intended!) and eventually a Sith Lady. I'm already seeing her carrying some red lightsaber (plays Sidious theme). Muahahaha.

'Josh Trank To Direct Stand-Alone Star Wars Film

In addition to the episodes of a new Star Wars trilogy, Lucasfilm and Disney continue development of multiple stand-alone movies that will offer new stories beyond the core Saga. The newest director to come on board is Josh Trank.

"We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family," says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. "He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX."

Trank states, "The magic of the Star Wars Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time."

Trank captured imaginations worldwide with his critically lauded directorial debut Chronicle, a fresh and engaging take on the superhero genre. Trank is currently at work on The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox.

I'm really curious to know what the release schedule will be. Perhaps filling the gaps between the main movies to keep the hype going, to entertain the fans and profit some more from other media such as videogames and comics!? Seems like Disney is interested in quickly filling the canon void left by the clean-up crew, and ensure that people remain onboard!

I think Gwendoline Christie would be a better Sith Lady. She does solemn well on Game of Thrones.

Unfortunately I can't comment on that (both actress' performances) because I haven't seen neither "Twelve Years a Slave" nor "Game of Thrones". My opinion is based in my wish to see a black/dark-skinned evil lady. Asajj Ventress was cool but the whole "dark side white pale of death" is becoming boring...Revan was the same...in other media, we have Kratos from God of War. While my wish might be a cliché per se - just look at Federova from "Deus Ex: Human Revolution"; Citra Talugmai from "Far Cry 3" and last but not least, May Day from one of James Bond movies it would be fresh in SW.

J.J. Abrams confirms Millennium Falcon will be in new 'Star Wars' in tweet begging leaks to stop

Let the wookie — and "Star Wars" nerds — win.

Such is the new philosophy of J.J. Abrams, apparently, who is normally amongst the most secretive filmmakers in the industry. With the leak of "Star Wars Episode VII" photos (published by TMZ) from the set in London seemingly indicating that the film will contain some version of Han Solo's famed Millennium Falcon, Abrams decided to have some fun — and give a rare concession to fans — in a note he posted on Twitter that requested the leaker to stop ruining his surprises.

After all, Abrams subscribes to the "Mystery Box" theory of entertainment, which means keeping ever-nosier fans in the dark about what the details of his movies and shows until the very last moment; see: Khan in last year's "Star Trek into Darkness." Some "Star Wars" spoilers can serve to get the fans pumped (yes, even more than they've already been), but there are probably aspects that would cause Abrams to bury someone on Tatooine for showing to the public.

So it's true then...I wonder if it'll be the Millenium Falcon as it was in the original trilogy or if it'll have some upgrades (inside & outside) made by Han. This leak doesn't bother me at all since I've never been a fan of Han or the Millenium but I imagine how others (J.J. included) might be feeling for having this surprise ruined.
Damn, when do people start tightning their fist to crush idiots like these? This year and in the gaming industry there's been leaks everywhere, ranging from mere details to game reveals. I know it's easier said than done but a body search can avoid a lot of picture leaks.

Harrison Ford hurts ankle on Millennium Falcon on 'Star Wars' set

Harrison Ford's jump to hyperspace may be slowed a bit after the actor injured his ankle on the set of "Star Wars: Episode VII" on Thursday.

Disney issued a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which said, "Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of 'Star Wars: Episode VII.' He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."

Ford is reprising his role as Han Solo in the reboot of the popular film franchise. THR reported that the 71-year-old actor was hurt by a door on the Millennium Falcon spaceship. Variety reported that a hydraulic door fell down and hit Ford, possibly fracturing his ankle, during filming at England's Pinewood studios.

Han Solo is the pilot of the spaceship, which is either "the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy" (Lando Calrissian) or a "bucket of bolts" (Princess Leia).

"Star Wars: Episode VII" is being directed by J.J. Abrams and is due in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.

I wish him a speedy recovery. One downside of getting old is injuries! :(

LOS ANGELES — Actor Harrison Ford has undergone surgery on his broken left leg that was injured in an accident on the set of "Star Wars: Episode VII," the publicist for the 71-year-old actor said in a statement on Thursday.

Disney, the studio behind the new "Star Wars" films, had said last week that Ford had hurt his ankle while filming at Pinewood Studios on the outskirts of London.

Ford's publicist, Ina Treciokas, said in the statement that Ford will begin rehabilitation shortly.

"He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work," Treciokas said.

Filming on the reboot of George Lucas' blockbuster "Star Wars" franchise will continue on schedule while Ford recovers.

The actor is reprising his role as Han Solo in "Star Wars: Episode VII," directed by J.J. Abrams and set for release in December 2015.

It is the first of at least three new films that will continue Lucas' saga after Disney purchased his production company, Lucasfilm, in 2012 for $4.05 billion.

The film will also have original "Star Wars" actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprise their roles along with Ford. The film will star Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac.

'Looper' director Rian Johnson is making 'Star Wars: Episode VIII'
http://www.theverge.com/2014/6/20/5...nson-will-reportedly-direct-the-next-two-star

All eyes are on J.J. Abrams as he films Star Wars: Episode VII, but Deadline and The Wrap are reporting that Rian Johnson is the latest filmmaker to join the universe. According to the reports, Lucasfilm is in the midst of making a deal with the filmmaker to both write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII. He is also said to be writing the treatment for Episode IX.

Johnson showed off his sci-fi chops in the time-travel drama Looper, but his other films have tackled different genres. His debut feature Brick was a high-school riff on classic film noir, while The Brothers Bloom was a madcap comedy that featured Mark Ruffalo and Adrien Brody. In our in-depth interview with the filmmaker in 2012, he mentioned that working on a studio feature was something he was looking forward to at some point in his career. The Star Wars franchise will certainly give him that chance.

The news also seems to be a good sign as to the state of Episode VII. Johnson has been very particular about choosing projects — he was rumored to be in the running for the new Terminator reboot — and that fact that he has jumped on to Star Wars would seem to indicate that he feels he'll be picking up from a strong entry by Abrams. Neither the director nor Lucasfilm have confirmed the news as of yet, but Johnson did post a brief tongue-in-cheek movie clip from The Right Stuff on Twitter after reports first broke. It consists of actor Scott Glenn as astronaut Alan Sheppard, saying a simple prayer: "Dear Lord, please don't let me fudge up."

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. Breaking Bad was great (specifically the episodes he directed), but Looper was garbage-in my opinion-and that is his only sci-fi work. So, so far this is probably the "worst" news for me. At least it isn't Michael Bay or something... the thought of that being a reality makes me want to vomit.

Star Wars Episode VII Production Update

At the end of last year Lucasfilm and Disney invited all young aspiring actors to attend an open casting call for roles in J.J Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII. The casting calls spanned 11 cities across the US and UK and over 37,000 hopefuls attended, with a further 30,000 submitting applications online.
Having hunted high and low for young and undiscovered talent, the filmmakers are delighted to announce that two actors from the open call call have been cast.
Crystal Clarke is an American actress studying in Glasgow, UK, who has both stage and screen acting experience and is soon to be seen in her first feature, The Moon and the Sun (to be released in 2015). British actor Pip Andersen is a skilled practitioner of parkour, a discipline that involves propelling oneself through any given environment with incredible grace and agility. Pip recently demonstrated this remarkable skill in a Spider-Man ad for Sony.
“The Star Wars universe has always been about discovering and nurturing young talent and in casting Episode VII we wanted to remain absolutely faithful to this tradition. We are delighted that so many travelled to see us at the open casting calls and that we have been able to make Crystal and Pip a part of the film,” said producer and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Meanwhile, principal photography continues at Pinewood Studios in London after wrapping on location in Abu Dhabi in May.
In August, the team will take a brief two-week hiatus while adjustments to the current production schedule are made as actor Harrison Ford recovers from a leg injury. Harrison is doing well and is looking forward to returning to the set soon. Shooting remains on track to wrap in the fall with the film scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
StarWars.com. All Star Wars, all the time.

(PS: Profile pictures of both in the link!)

Judging from the profile picture of Crystal I can also (as stated here before) imagine her as my dreamed Jedi turned Dark Jedi turned Sith! As for him, I really don't want to say that he'll just be a pretty face but then again I must wish this for both of them; I'm really hoping for good performances, even if not having high hopes - or even any hopes, just to be careful - regarding the movie in general. Going by his description, I just hope he doesn't end up as a Jedi, like it seems he will; I'm really sick of the Jedi/Sith swamp lore, more so after three episodes in The Clone Wars that were extremelly awful (not to speak of midi-chlorians) and I was really attracted to Star Wars 1313 because of the idea of a game less focused on the Jedi vs Sith struggle and more on "Forceless" people.

RE: Star Wars - "Episode VII" and "Rebels" Discussion Thread

Considering the plot leak rumours that I've heard so far, it seems like the Jedi vs. Sith thing will be playing a big role. Regardless of whether those specific rumours come true or not, I would expect the main movies to follow a Jedi/Sith storyline, but leaving the sidestory films free to not have to deal with that (especially considering their planned ones, which included a Han movie, I believe).

RE: Star Wars - "Episode VII" and "Rebels" Discussion Thread

Let's face it, the main Star Wars storyline will always revolve around the Jedi vs Sith theme; all we can do is hope for good acting for both sides and a story that won't be too much of a repeat of the old movies with different names.

I KNEW IT! Juncker is a Sith apprentice and Merkel is the Sith Master...or perhaps the other way around! The EU is turning itself into a Sith Council and the Republic is fading away, becoming an Empire!
Most likely the Rebels hide in Portugal, Italy, perhaps Ireland, Greece and Spain (PI(I)GS) and their symbol is a Gamorrean Guard smashing a bloody Stormtrooper helmet!
Berlusconi was the equivalent of Jabba the Hutt with Rubi being his Leia demise!

Oh my gosh, it'll will be Han passing the torch to small Han and small Han conquering and uniting the smugglers in order to fight a threat to all of them while carrying the Ark of Covenant aboard the Millenium Falcon with bling-bling all over it and having nitro! Mickey Mouse will decorate the cockpit's window!

As long as it doesn't turn out that Palpatine planned to be defeated by Luke even before becoming Senator...I don't want a major plot that leaves major doubts and plot-holes with a nonsense story that could be better if it wasn't for that major plot. Oh, and since midi-chlorians already are lore, don't come up with the same answer as "MGS4: Guns of the Patriots" which was nanomachines.

RE: Star Wars - "Episode VII" and "Rebels" Discussion Thread

From what I recall it was going to be a movie about Han's past before Ep IV; there was a lot of debate over whether they'd used the established canon or not, but of course that was before Disney announced they didn't give a shit about the EU, so who knows where it's going to go at this point.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Will Feature Parkour!

The adorably named Pip Anderson was just added to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. He’s a parkour guy, so he’ll likely flip around the rest of the cast as they fire lasers at him, narrowly missing (as they often do in this far away galaxy). You can watch him ply his trade in the video above. It must be asked: does anyone else think J.J. Abrams is tempting fate casting another guy who could easily snap his leg on set? How many legs have to break to sate this maniac and his mystery box?!?!

He’s joined by Crystal Clarke, a lady! It’s a good thing too, because without more ladies, this trilogy might not have any scenes of powerful political leaders dying of broken hearts in childbirth.

Clarke’s bone density is unknown at this time, though, really, anything could happen…

Be sure to go to the website and watch the commercial.
