The Set Rotation Discussion Thread

^ you now say its uneven? luxchomp has been running rampant for 2 years and now its uneven....

I never said luxchomp was uneven, or any of the older deck's. I'm only pointing out the newer deck's that were being discussed, they seem to uneven because of the format, and once B/W come's out hgss seems to be the only set that actually work's in the new format.

its not to uneven. im interested to see luxchomp lostgar matchups...it should be interesting. who will come out on top?

^I'd say LuxChomp. It can fairly consistently outspeed LostGar; a major problem for Luxchomp would be Level Down. Even so, the ability to OHKO Pokes fairly often and quickly is a large advantage.

This format is to uneven, HGSS-ON. cya

Phhfff... whatever...

RR-On is better, at least it'd be better than Japan's current format. I've gone too far to tear apart Charizard, so no HGSS-On until late 2012 or 2013 If were still alive by then.

Hopefully my sanity will still be intact as well.

PT on :D

Please explain why you think the format will be Platinum-on. ~Gliscor

Hoorah sir,

PT on would keep the SP engine that will provide some combat for the LostGar engine that has replaced it in Japan. They are pretty matched in effectiveness (see European Cup Championships for insight on that claim, http://www.youtube.com/user/PokemanDanLv45#p/c/F302A88DC017F004 ) and it wouldn't make sense to me at lease if they dropped one super engine (SP) just to replace it with another (Lost World). Now it can be argued by keeping RR on, you keep some of the beastly SP guys but they will become nothing more then Techs. It didn't make sense to me why they kept some of the D&P sets last rotation though, seems like it would be more logical to rotate all of D&P out at once regardless of any established trends (4 set rotations). Thats just my two Pennies.

I will be honestly surprised if we get a RR-on format for next season, when the design seemed to intend that to be this year's format - and TCPi already shredded it. Don't forget that Japan's current format is designed around a three-set B&W release before championships.

I'll be honest, release-rotation formats are not good competitive design to begin with, so it's mostly moot. It would be far more interesting if we called this format "beta", and had a completely defined format for an entire season known as "stable" where championships are played. Make rating carry, and it wouldn't hurt business at all.

@Kittymew
Do you mean have a whole season of so many sets with no additions, because that'd be boring, and the format would become stale and boring, thus losing pokemon money.

I personally think (and hope) it will end up being RR-on, because of the rotation schedule they stated last year, which is cutting 4 sets a year. Japan may have HS-on right now, but they also had FRLG-on when we had DX-on, or even HP-on for a while.

I think it will be HGSS-on, because it makes more sense. Also, it makes more sense out of Call Of Legends (which reprinted some cards which were in the previous set), because then the 2012 rotation would be CoL-on; the CoL cards were reprinted so that they would still be playable after that rotation.

RR-On. TPCi has been rotating sets in groups of 4 for awhile now, and the notion that it'll cut out the entire Platnium block, IMO is crazy. The Platinum block has only been around since 2009, which is not a lot of play time when compared to other sets that have been in the format much longer. I think they'll keep rotating 4 sets a year and that it'll be RR-on. HGSS on would eliminate too many sets and lose many new players.

As COL is basically not a new set (all of the new cards could have easily been included in the HGSS series sets) and we should only have 1 B/W set before Worlds (considering. COL was moved up to get it over with and B/W to better match the VG release, but with the 2nd set coming in Sept due to Japan only getting expert decks); I am expecting RR-on, which follows the announced plan. 5 Sets (and COL) hardly make a fun format.
I would bet PL-on before I'd bet HGSS-on.In the future COL-on doesn't seem likely in the slightest (As its random reprint nonsense) and it should rotate when HGSS-on (Or UL-on) rotates

I HOPE it is Platinum on. I've always been upset at the idea of rotating part of a block without rotating the rest of it. Losing only Platinum does a good job of making SPs not very effective.

If they rotate Call of Legends with the HS cycle, it's an even bigger waste of my time than I thought. I liked the idea of keeping some cards in rotation after HS rotated. Other than that, CoL serves no purpose whatsoever (aside from lost World, but we knew that already).

there is a discussion thread for this???...interesting...well, I remember PokemonPlay saying something about rotating four sets per year now..."as they feel, it will be the best choice to keep a healthy competitive environment"...and if they keep to what they said at the advent of last year's rotation, that would leave it RR-on, which makes for a pretty balanced metagame

as we all know (or should), Japan has new base rules due to Black & White, these rules make it much harder for early evolving...if we adopt those rules when B&W comes out, SP's will go back to being an overly dominate force in the metagame...and after 2 years of (almost brokenly) unbalanced SP decks running around, I'm ready for a change

ChairmanKaga (pokegym), believes we will be adopting the B&W rules when the set releases, I certainly hope not...but if we do, I would much rather go to a HGSS-on format, just because that will completely eliminate SP's and make it so there won't be any crazy high hp basics running around to donk with

i find it weird that japan is HGSS-on but we would be RR-on. it just doesnt seem fair. i hope for HGSS-on so that we can start new and not have SP still in the picture.

I certainly agree with Breen, I want PL on for reasons that if they go to RR on, and use the it will destroy many decks that use techs from PL (Landmin X for example.) But if it isnt, I say SV on. It would destory SP's and leave B/W (newer and possibly better set IMO) to leave an impression on everyone that its going to be alot of good sets.

it's not really weird...it's because of how we release our sets as compared to Japan...if we released our sets like they do, then we could be right in league with them, but we are always a set behind...if we adopt the B&W base rules when the set releases, then that would just be person, because then it would be nothing but SP's all next year, and that would just be boring

^nothing but SP?...nothing would have a chance except donk decks if we adopt the rules. being able to use s/t/t on the first turn would raise sableyes price and sabledonk would go WAY up in popularity. i just see it as unfair that we get to use the decks of yesteryear when japan is stuck with a slower format.

I'm starting to think LostGar could give SP's a run for their money, especially with it's performance in Europe placing 2nd with LuxChomp in 1st I'd say it's a strong contender.

I do think a rotation to Rising Rivals-On would cripple SP's and some people don't realize that. That gets rid of the Cyrus SP Engine from Platinum, plus it's the best choice we have for a balanced format than HeartGold/SoulSilver-On IMO.

I think the best choice overall is HGSS-on b/c then we have the same format as japan(assuming that they don't rotate this year) I'd like that to happen again.
Also RR-on would be fun as you would have some stragglers playing crippled SP decks along w/ Arceus and then 3 gengar variants and who knows maybe Flygon would make a comeback and then Enboar, which i think could develop inot as powerful as a deck Blaziken was back in the day(and be teched out as much as luxchomp) but it would be fun. If it's not one of those two i'd be kinda annoyed, although i see merit in doing PA-on

Trading SP dominance for Lostgar dominance is still bad for the game in general. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut the last 3 DP sets and then rotated all of PT block at once next year to make it HGSS-on. There are too many people deeply invested in PT block cards to cut it straight to HGSS. That choice would alienate some players and weaken the game.
