What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

A suggestion: Is it possible to remove banned members from the birthday list at the bottom of the forum page?

Introduction thread sounds OK enough, but given that PokeBeach is an inherently welcoming place I don't think it would really add anything. I'm not sure people are having a hard enough time embracing the community to warrant it, although correct me if I'm wrong if you've had other experiences.

There should be some way to differentiate smilies/Energy symbols from images in signatures. They don't take up much room (unlike banners and such), so I don't see why not. People could then do stuff like this (or similar) for signatures:

Also, right after Phase Moltres/forum redo, wasn't there a profile-based reputation system being worked on for trading? Was the idea abandon, or are you guys still working on it?

EDIT: Maybe also a way to not only see the number of members someone reffered, but to see the referred members' usernames and a link to their profiles?

If you can get me the images, I can enter them into the animate tag database and it might work that way.

(I don't know if this is the right thread for a question like this but here it goes.)
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this, but ChanServ has been bugging out lately on the chat. It's been asking me to register my nick every time I say something, and it hasn't done that since I first started going on the chat.
It's kicking people off of channels too, and logging in and out of the chat by itself.
It might go away later but I'd check to see if something's wrong with it.

The services keep going down repeatedly probably because the server ops don't know how to keep the place up with a secure connection.
If ever I hear my headphones beep because of that again, I'm going to about flip. I don't care if we have to move servers again to get more reliable services; I want it to stop.

The server is hosted by Bozza. If his connection goes out, all the services go. I still can do almost anything because of my status on the server. If you need to get ops in a particular channel I can do that. I can do any channel mode except +r while services are down.

You don't need to reregister your nickname. Once services come back online you just have to reidentify.

Sometimes net splits occur on one or more of the servers the chat uses. Anyone that is connected to the chat by one of the servers that had a net split will get disconnected. This can happen on any server.

I know, but it's annoying having to do that each time the connection goes out.
I don't know if it's a problem with Bozza's connection or what, and even though we're not totally out in the cold when services go down (as long as I can hold +o then I can manage), but it's just irritating having to reidentify each time it happens, given how it can happen up to 10 times in the space of a half-hour.

KA, the problem remains that the server's services are just flat out unreliable, making it inconvienent for a good number of us.

No matter what client you use, because the server is being a derp, the problems will exist.

Could we try to have a mini suspect testing group? I'd really like to test Roserade and Deoxys-D and see if they are worth it in a suspect testing round. I know that the issue is that our forum doesn't have that big of a VG fan base, but you never know until you try.

The problem is just like you say; we have too small of a player base. The competitive player base we have is even smaller. I'm not opposed to yiou posting in our banlist to say what should be banned and what shouldn't as long as you can back up your arguments.

ManiZach has said that the services might get better soon because it might use a different one of the individual servers. Hopefully this happens.

I think we should have a section for forum games.

It would bring members together and it would atract more.

Forum games where closed because they were pointless, spammy, distracting, pointless, and pointless.

The only two that remain are Werewolf and Trivia of DNA, unless you count You Laugh You Lose.

Technically there's three; "The Challenge" is the third one.

The reason for this is that, about the time when it was decided to shut the games down, there weren't many games that required intelligent thought - RPGs were big-time offenders of this - not to mention there was a lot of games around. So in the end they decided to trim it down to just three. (It was planning to be just two, but the three favorites got about the same number of votes each, so they all stayed.)

Of those, Trivia of DNA is technically the only one that's open-invitation, if you're wishing to jump into a game right away.
But as far as the forum as a whole goes, Beach's goal isn't really wanting to consume people's time too much with forum games. (When they were around, they got in the way a lot.)

...and that's your history lesson for the day

Actually, most of the forum games took activity away from a lot of other forums. We had too many people joining just for them and nothing else. Hence, they were more destructive than constructive.

It is mind-boggling how many people ask for a forum for games so I have edited the first post telling people not to.
