What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

I would consider it if there was a global standard for posts per page

What about a simple "Like" button so we can like posts?

This idea has been toyed with before. It's just right now there are many things taking priority over adding a like button to the forums. Eventually we may see this added though.

Personally, I have never been an advocate for those kind of things, as agreements would be demonstrated with just a click. No one would build upon the points they agree with unless they feel more strongly about it.

How about having a sticky thread or a subforum with an IRC client so that it will be much easier to access for members. The java client sucks, and most members don't even know about it. This would promote the chat, and help both new and veteran members better connect with those around them.

This is a better alternative because it's non-intrusive, (Not popping up for people no interested) but is present enough to be found for anyone who would have interest.

@Zyflair: That's a good point.

@Jay: We'll take that into consideration. It might be a while before it can be implemented if it does get added to the forums.

Thanks to both of you for your input.

If the issue is how to do it, there are two ways in which it can be done in seconds. LMK if so.

If you need to debate and stuff then ok.

I don't like like buttons either - for what Zyflair said, and it just doesn't feel right on a forum. It brings so many unecessary issues with it.

Right now it is part of the Forum Rules & Info sticky thread. It explains how to connect with Java and mIRC (much better). A whole subforum to me seems more of a waste since it would be basically dead.

There could be a chat promotion for like two weeks or something. Also, newbs don't use mIRC, you must assume that people who would otherwise not enter the chat will do it through java.

Teal, what I mean is, the java client is a bit discrete, being in the top right corner. It just sits there and doesn't get any attention. It also sucks. Many people can't get it to work.

What I want is a sticky thread, not in the rules with a link, but an actual sticky thread with an actual Mibbit client in the OP. Mibbit is nice and smooth, and having an actual client in a user-friendly location will raise awareness for the chat. (mIRC is obviously better, but your casual member won't use it their first time on)

My suggestions are to:

A: Make a Sticky, perhaps in Website Feedback or Real World, With the mibbit client I talked about.
B: Install a plug-in that allows the chat to show up on the bottom of the forums. The IRC plug-in I have in mind puts the chat in a spoiler, so that it will not pop up and disturb people who do not want it.

Suggestion B would take too much server resources doing that. It would have to load it on every page plus the fact that it reloads that screen every x seconds eats a lot of account executions. It won't matter putting it in a spoiler or not because it will still execute the chat.

Suggestion A is a maybe, but it'd have to be Real World because you can only view your own threads in Website Feedback and it wouldn't make as much sense there.

One thing I'd like is something that would say Topic Creator or whatever below someones name who made the topic, making it easier to remember whose topic it is without having to go back to the original post :D

Frankly, I don't really see the need for something like this as I don't find it at all that hard to go back to page one just to find out who created the thread. Even when you enter the forum the thread is in, the name of the author shows up under the link anyways. I like the idea, but I don't think it's going to be needed.

...even though the topic creator's name can be seen right below the topic name before it's opened?

Yeah I know, its just something nice I've seen and is convienient, I guess it would probably be added in only if it was super easy to do

I have been absent for a year, so I may not know what's what with the Pokébeach politics these days, but I must say I was a little bit sad to see Deus: Nightmare Autarch (formerly DNA) isn't a mod any more. Just throwin' that out there.
