I never saw the original my little pony when I was little, but I'm 100% sure it wasn't anything like this. In my opinion, this show IS a
"cartoon d' auteur". Tell you more, I'd put it in the same category as Batman: TAS (and I NEVER joke when it comes to Batman: TAS).
Edit: Oh, Oh, just had an idea: Paul dini + lauren faust: MLP:FIM/batman TAS crossover, the incredible writing and characterization of BTAS plus the art style of faust, plus the ponies and the g****** batman.
You know you want to see pinkie pie going on a party rampage with the joker and harley quinn, and rarity going jewelry "shopping" with catwoman.

The Mysterious Mare Do Well so, IT ALREADY HAPPENED. BEFORE I EVEN THOUGHT OF IT. The music reminiscent of BTAS (therefore awesome), the posters during the mare's parade in the style and palette of BTAS, and the plot similar to "batman: mystery of the batwoman" make it the best episode ever. hands down.
